For those that are familiar with the film Sleepy Hollow, how much detail are we supposed to see in Johnny Depp's very dark coat short of asking the Director of Photography...lol? Even with my brightness set at 57 on otherwise stock Technicolor, I can see much less detail in his coat then on my FALD LCD in the bedroom.

The Korean site has 04.10.40 could see maybe that does not have the fix.

Raising 5 IRE a few notches should help as well.

I tested both scenes (very dark room) couple of times but “NO” flashing, the only thing I can see is the inside the barn the wall was a bit blotchy but that’s about it. FYI: my TV is September 2018, 100 hours and original firmware 30090. No desire to update to .31 since my TV works well. I use Cinema for HD Netflix at OLED 60, motion Clear and the rest of advance features all OFF.

I could only raise my brightness to 51 before I start to loose true black. At 51 I still have some crush. It’s not terrible but it’s there.

LG C8 Standby Power Consumption Question

Hello All,

My one-week old 65 inch C8 draws around 2.8 Watts in standby mode. I was wondering if this is normal, since this TV should consume less than 0.5 watt in standby mode according to its spec.

I have played with different settings, such as energy savings, power saving mode, Quick Start+ and Standby light, but the power consumption in standby mode didn't change much.

Is this something I should worry about? The TV does have a stuck pixel though, and I'm not sure if they are related.

Thank you very much!

Most calibrator charge a touch up fee......not full price.
Updates can come anytime

Typically how long after an update such as the last one does one start to encounter issues if not updating? Such as with apps and connection?

App updates are separate from the firmware updates for most cases. Apps are updated but the company that makes the app.

Connections such as wifi and such should not be affected unless there was an issue previously and part of your firmware update has a fix for it.

In general apps and connections should work even if you don't take the firmware updates.

Thanks for the tip I went to 20pt and bumped up the 5% to 5 and that helped. Is there a pattern I can use to get it dialed in closer to where it should be?

Thanks so much. I’m having some drop outs with Netflix and there has been an update for it but was concerned about updating if it affects not having the recent firmware with negative effects. I know sometimes there can be issues without the latest firmware when connecting AVR/Blu Ray player. Was just trying to determine approximately how long I might be able to put off the update without issues. In the past I’ve had what it seems to slow down apps and connection after so long.. maybe that has to do with updating the apps and not being on the most recent fw? I usually never have issues with Hulu and just the other day after the fw was released I could barely get it to start. This happened not too long after the fw popped up and quickly after I had to reset my internet connection for probably the second time ever. Hulu has been running more slowly than ever since that too so I’m thinking it must be a connection issue. So hopefully that’s just unrelated then.

Thank you, for the info!

The reason why I was asking is because for the C8 to pass through Dolby Atmos in anyway is to have the setting to Atmos on, even if it is to be greyed out and you are using the tv as external audio only! A lot of people do not know this!

With the recent reports for the new update, I guess I'll hold off on the update when it becomes available? As of yesterday, no update available for me yet (SF Bay Area).

Happy with PQ now; no visible issues with the flashing problem -- is there a reason I should update that I am unaware of, or better to stay fat and happy and not risk black crush and brightness issues and whatever else comes from that. What say you folks?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I had some color banding in a few different devices and they are completely gone! I am also the kind of guy, that always updates stuff right away, drivers, firmwares, etc. It benefits me most of the time.

Ah man short of professional calibration that's what I know. You can raise it a bit more if you like, I have mine set at 9 with brightness at 52.

Thanks for the reminder of how to do this. I also went back and persued this thread.

After making sure brightness setting was correct according to "black clipping" AVS pattern (brightness set to 54), I just needed to go into Expert --> White Balance --> Set to 20 point adjustment --> select "5 IRE" --> and adjust it by +10.

I've now got all my shadow detail back, blacks remain absolutely black, and the flashing black macroblocking issue remains resolved (to the same extent it was resolved before I adjusted White Balance. . . it is non-existent in most test scenes and where it remains it is much improved).

This TV now looks better than ever. Could not be happier.

Hi, I just bought C8 because reviews were perfect everywhere "best tv of 2018 etc". But now everywhere I go, everyone complaints that updates destroyed this and that, every new update destroys something new.. So what to do now? Should I return C8 or never update firmware or can I safely update? This is my first OLED.
