Running update on TV says no new firmware available. Anyone want to post 4.10.60? Also does this version fix the banding correction we lost in .31?
Are you sure there is 4.10.60 FW? Maybe someone confused it with 04.60.01 which was (maybe still) available when changing NSU to engineering mode?

A Simple Question = Lots of Snark

@chunon , @macmane , @smitty

Wow! That's some strong emotion for a simple question. I've been a forum member since 2007. I've probably read and searched 200,000 posts over the years. In a reply to a question from another forum member, someone referred to a post number. I asked, "Can you tell me how to navigate directly to a post number?" I didn't say I couldn't page back and get to that post; I didn't say I couldn't search for an answer to a question. I didn't ask a question that had been recently (or ever) asked in this forum. I asked a simple question about forum technique. Maybe someone with less stress and who knows a bit more about forum function can help me out.

Hard to know that from the responses I got. Here are some of them:

I mean, nobody wants to read every page of a thread that is 500+pages long, but a simple effort at a search is something people should do before asking a question that appears to seek relatively basic information or seeks something that probably has been encountered by someone else.

Now get the hell off my lawn, people!
How do any of those responses answer my simple question of how to navigate directly to a specific post number?

If you took as much time to actually read the question as you did to craft a snarky response, we'd all be better off.

Now can anyone answer my original, simple question, "Can you tell me how to navigate directly to a specific post number?"

Thanks in advance.

The ar coating distorts the reflections been going on for years , do you see that distortion in actual content ?

Those reflections tho. Yuck. Hopefully you enjoy your oled at night for the most part. Maybe get some curtains? Those reflections being skewed like that tho is pretty extreme. But all coatings ive seen on oled do something similar. Like chunon said in content is what matters. Youd know right away and most likely wouldnt have posted a panel off picture if it was that scenario.

What AR coating? My TV has a glossy finish. My Sony KDS-A553000 had an anti-reflective screen, and it was flat.

TBH, after seeing your response to Steve20A, I'll take my questions and my posts elsewhere. Unsubscribed....

You are confusing matte finish and glossy.

All oleds have an ar coating they would fair pretty poorly in daytime environments otherwise , guess you didn’t know that ? Hmmm well take care that guy is not even an owner .

As I said this is a common thing with oleds ar coatings but don’t take my word for it , try google or read any OLED review published in the last 4 years .

I just noticed when playing with black floor that if I intentionally raise it to see the difference between the black bezel and dark grey, one side of the tv, the side with dark vingetting and red tinting, stays close to true black while the other side is closer to a 5% grey. Maybe this is why lg crushes blacks as the average user wont notice the loss in detail anyway vs what im seeing when trying to correct it?

I had that inconsistent black level on my A8f , my calibrator noticed it right away . There are still some voltage consistency challenges in near black unfortunately .

Relax. One, if the post # is referenced in a thread, just click on the link. Two, use the Search feature if you have a specific question and see what the results are. Three, grab a cup of coffee and start going back thru the previous posts. Quite often a single post doesn't completely answer a question so you need to start reading the replies which may go on for a couple of pages.

It's on page 767 I believe. Took me about 10 seconds to find the post # by clicking on the pages at the top and looking at the post ranges.

I never trust an atom, they make up everything.

Wow. That setup is not optimal for use with an OLED imo. Use blackout curtains for daytime viewing. If you don't see any aberrations in the pq when viewing in a dark environment ( a bias light would be recommended) then don't sweat it.

I found it also. But only by going back a few pages, checking the post numbers, going back a few more pages and checking again. Trial and error, more or less. That's when I asked how to navigate directly to a post number.

Apparently no one who responded has an answer to that question. Maybe the answer is that you can't navigate directly to a post number, as you can to a page number.

What bothered me is that three people essentially made fun of the question, or didn't spend enough time or care reading the question to see what I was actually asking. Instead, they went off on a condescending rant about people who are lazy or sloppy or somehow unfit to use this forum. And now, you are a fourth person who isn't addressing the question I asked. It's a laziness that is a characteristic of some people and I find it disappointing, especially in a forum where helping others is often stated as a goal.

Enough said.

ASBL and the logo luminance setting were disabled.

Picture of the setup:

I tested this with a 50%, 60% and 100% white. Oled-Light 36 and 100.
Here the results:

100% white, Oled-Light 36 (nits after xx seconds):
0 seconds 115
60 seconds 115
90 seconds 115
120 seconds 114
150 seconds 88
180 seconds 70
210 seconds 57
240 seconds 56
270 seconds 56
300 seconds 55

60% white, Oled-Light 36 (nits after xx seconds):
0 seconds 33
60 seconds 33
90 seconds 33
120 seconds 32
150 seconds 24
180 seconds 21
210 seconds 17
240 seconds 16
270 seconds 16
300 seconds 16

50% white, Oled-Light 36 (nits after xx seconds):
- No dimming at all after 5 minutes

60% white, Oled-Light 100 (nits after xx seconds):
0 seconds 73
60 seconds 73
90 seconds 73
120 seconds 72
150 seconds 55
180 seconds 45
210 seconds 37
240 seconds 35
270 seconds 35
300 seconds 35

50% white oled-light 100 (nits after xx seconds):
- No dimming at all after 5 minutes

There seems to be a threshold that determines if it will start dimming or not (50% white -> no dimming, 60%-100% white -> full dimming). The dimming starts after the static logo has been present for exactly 120 seconds and finishes dimming to ~48% of the original brightness after 240 seconds. Oled-Light doesn't seem to affect this, it's either full dimming or no dimming at all.

Removing the static logo will cause the brightness to gradually ramp up to the original value within like 30 seconds or so.
This is different from ASBL which almost instantly returns to the original brightness.

I also tested this last year but back then I didn't have a real meter and just used some smartphone lightmeter app but the result's were very similar so I don't think LG has changed anything regarding this recently.
omg this is the most annoying thing ever with my OLED! ruins so many different contents, mainly football(soccer)

i assume there is no way to turn this off and LG clearly wont do anything about it as i dont see many complaining, is this something that every brand/version OLED has?

does enabling logo luminance dimming mean this thing turns off???

I still don’t know what your purpose is here you are not an owner and for some reason you think this is the place to ask post navigation questions . You are getting exactly the treatment you deserve , now if you have a “real” question about the C8 I am happy to assist . Otherwise time to move on .

I gave you three suggestions on how you can find a specific post. If you want it any clearer the answer is you can't, unless you use the Search feature, click on a referenced link, or do what I did.

Have you measured logo luminance setting, does it affect anything at all, low/high/off ?
Maby it´s bug at fw, so when disable logo luminance function there shouldn´t be such as "ASDN"?

does enabling logo luminance dimming mean this thing turns off???

I tried the same test with logo luminance set to high and it seems to be cumulative. The result was full picture dimming + logo dimming on top of it...
You can't disable 'Automatic News Station Dimming' (ANSD). I think sony has it too, not sure about other brands.

Hmmm. I have Logo Luminance Adjustment set to Low and haven't seen any picture dimming. I'll have to pay close attention tonight while watching GoT. Boy there's a lot of variance between these C8 panels.

I never trust an atom, they make up everything.

Absolutely, mine does that. Hard to keep these screens flat when they are so thin. I can not see anything like that with normal content just when the TV is off...

I agree with others that your main issue is that the reflections exist at all. Fix that!

As far as the screen, the reflections mean nothing. There are many, many screen geometry slides and videos available that you can display to check the screen's geometry. If you don't already have a calibration disc you should get one, it'll include more than one image that's good for checking geometry.

This "ANSD" is 0resent whit all the firmwares of the 2018 line, or is just to 04.10.31. Is this a general problem. On my old b6 a didnt see this problem?

its been there since day 1 for me

it could be counter to the higher ABL threshold since the 2016 models, so you get less aggressive ABL but you also get dimming if brigthness is too high for too long?

Anyone get ridiculously crushed blacks watching GoT last night? Assuming this is a firmware issue?

I have a Harmony also and works great, but don't you need ARC to send audio from the TV back to your receiver?

I just got ridiculously noisy shadow details from DTVs overly compressed signal.
