85) -2
90) -3

Hopefully this doesn't happen with more firmware updates. I had everything dialed the way I like it.
This definitely helps so props to those who shared them.

What are you guys doing for game mode? I tried just raising brightness to 53-54 and it doesn't look right.

does enabling logo luminance dimming mean this thing turns off???
I hope everyone with this dimming issue will also contact LG about this. This is very annoying! I noticed it even while watching sports, baseball and basketball games as well. Logo dimming settings doesn't seem to help still the entire screen dims. Changing the channel then going back restores the brightness till the dimming cycle starts again as others have reported. Never noticed this really until the .31 update in addition to the dark gamma. Maybe this is another 'bug'.

The purpose of the logo dimming is to dim the logos unfortunately it can dim other content , Cinema picture mode is definitely less aggressive from that stand point as others have pointed out.

I have yet to see it in sports .

Thanks for the response but maybe I wasn't clear the dimming occurs with the logo settings OFF as well. I really notice it for example while watching a game then turning to check another then back the picture is brighter again. It isn't as noticeable on certain channels/games I guess it depends on content and it happens gradually maybe some haven't noticed it. Someone had measured the dimming in a previous post so it is there at least for some.

It has to be a bug in the algorithm.

Use mostly Cinema OLED @ 50 / Contrast @ 83, or Technicolor OLED 63 / Contrast 84 picture modes for cable. The dimming seems to occur a little faster in Cinema mode, had OLED at 35 and took it to 50. Still dims in either mode though. Haven't noticed this on Blu-rays (at least yet)

So I just received a response from a post I made long ago to rtings asking if Technicolor or Cinema was recommended for HDR10 content. I was told that because they expect Technicolor to change in the future they recommend Cinema now instead... Am wondering which most are using here for HDR content?

I do not recall anyone getting banding after a firmware update, you sure it was not there before?

Yes there are certain programs I watch that have gradient backgrounds and before MPEG Noise reduction in auto mode cleared the banding. Now no setting clears it.

I think you're referring to more of what's called posterization. Banding usually refers to vertical bars when it comes to OLED tech. That's a bummer that the firmware update bricked that feature. Hopefully with Vincent's report LG will feel compelled to do something about it. I'm not sure he reported that feature to be broken though. LG needs to be made aware for sure!

Yes you are correct, I should have said posterization. Can’t imagine why a feature they promote in their sales literature about the a9 chip they would decide to turn off? Have to hope it was just something they did not think to check when they updated the code. The hard part is that there is no real way for the informed consumer to reach anyone at companies who also have the authority to invoke an investigation much less even understand the problem you are describing. You can tell that most CSR’s are reading from scripts, have no hands on knowledge of the product and want to send you off with a pat on your head.

It's working again on firmware 04.10.50, so hopefully there will be an official release based on that firmware version soon.

Interestingly, de-banding actually worked (intermittently) with game mode on 04.10.31, where it never had before on any previous firmware. I was hopeful that when they fixed the bug, it would continue to be effective. However, it's now back to having no effect under game mode with the 04.10.50 update.

Thanks I'm going to try these even though I never had the updated firmware as I still find crushed black.

I will say the recommendation of HBO Go on Apple TV for GoT, it is much cleaner than DirecTV. 1080p I believe it is and it makes a difference.

2018 LG C8-E8 Owners' Thread (No Price Talk)

I notice in white backgrounds my display towards the center is slightly bluish. Is this normal? Is this branding issue? It’s not a big deal and it’s not that noticeable if you didn’t know about it.

I believe mine does the same thing. I only notice it at all on all white screen. I watched our planet with all the glacier shots and never noticed it so in content it seems fine.

Still find LG support ridiculous. I've had 2 repairs to try to fix my tv. Neither has worked and both LG guaranteed would work. Instead, each repair resulted in more issues. Originally it was an extremely darknpicture. Dark scenes everything was just a black blob, nothing could be made out on max everything. The fix, send a tech and reset with the service remote. That did nothing, but then the tv has constent audio drop outs on all sources and now randomly shuts itself off.

The second fix, replace the main board. Same issues still exist after and then the tv made some sound, screen went completely grey and only way to get video back was to turn off and on. Got video back but now has jail bar lines that are easily visable on everything and little circles.

Service tech said that I should have grounds for a replacemet. LGs solution, fix again. What now I have no clue. Each repair causes me to be out money. On this tv and previous ones I have lost $1400 in salary and we are moving soon. A replacement is the easiest option. The repairs do nothing but cause more problems. Why can't LG just admit that this unit is faulty and find a new fix to the problem.

Yea it’s not enough to sweat for me. Overall I’m pretty happy how uniformed my screen is on gray background. Even a top end Sony led tv that I had before had nasty gray uniformity. Don’t even get me started on the blooming issue lol. I know it’s two different type of screens just pointing how I do not missed the other side lol.

Sounds much like Sony support to me based on my previous TV experience. Btw are you not under the one year warranty anymore? Is that why you’re paying out of pocket?

Hopefully this doesn't happen with more firmware updates. I had everything dialed the way I like it.
Were these settings done with calibration tools or with just by eye? It seems a bit washed out to me. The brightness needs to be reduced by a few points. At least to my eyes.

I'm under warranty. The tv is 3 months old. I'm out money as I don't get paid from work for the time I have to miss for service calls. This isn't very good for a 3 month old tv.
