About the FAQ.

People ask how to find it (the FAQ). People say to use "search". Sorry, but here you can't search for a three letter word. Too short.

The mods could put a link in the first post, but have decided not to.

No problem with it here, nor has there ever been. To answer your question; no - exchanging the TV won't fix "it".

Never heard of it. It's far more likely to be an issue with his router/ISP/Wifi/etc/lots of other things than the hardware of the TV.
If it's the hardware of the TV, then every app would have the same problem, not just one of them!

Love this tv just one question though. Suddenly on the hdmi input I use for my Directv a sub input has shown up. Now when I turn the tv on it defaults to the sub input instead of the original Directv main input. Has anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it? Maybe it is software upgrade related?

Bought the LG C8 77" last week, Hope to get delivery this week, really looking forward to it, Would have gone for the C9 but the deals on the C8 were too good to pass up.
However there is a little tension on this thread. Hope that passes.

Here are the RTINGS calibration settings pages mentioning black crush:

www .rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/b8-oled/settings
www .rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/c8-oled/settings
www .rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/e8-oled/settings

All three calibration settings pages say the following: "If you find that you are losing details in dark scenes (blacks appear crushed), you can change this setting to your preference. A setting of '1.9' is a good starting point if '2.2' doesn't work for you."

---------

Also, youtuber mentioning OLED black crush:

www .youtube.com/watch?v=LHs5flKbIQ4
www .youtube.com/watch?v=AeibN0xb0bE

Not sure if he had bad settings or firmware or if what he says is valid and cannot be fixed.

Yep if you compare street price on c8 to street price of c9, you are talking around 1500 bucks for mainly hdmi 2.1

Well that on top of the proper color controls for game mode and apparently from the Rtings review, far less chance of burn in.

Might be worth it for those who want an OLED mainly for gaming. Once 2.1 GPUs come out the C9 gets even better.

I see the sub input but I have only my AVR plugged into the C8. The sub is actually a device that is plugged into the AVR so it can't actually switch to the sub.

I don't know specifically about the Spotify app, but most apps have a "fireworks" screensaver. Also there is an "Energy Saving" mode which offers options of Auto, off, Min/Med/Max/Screen off". The last option gives you a full black screen until you press a button on the remote, so that's a simple way around it.

What's the point of spending money on having a professional calibration done if LG releases firmware updates that affect gamma afterwards? Wouldn't that mess with the calibration?

Yep, but its kind of hidden! Long press settings for the full settings menu, select energy saving then select screen off!

This might be a nice addition to the FAQ...

It's rare that firmware effects professionally calibrated sets. It's not a common thing.

been discussed here a few pages ago as well as the internet. It's an off and on again issue with connecting with Amazon Prime. Seems LG's app has some issues but some how Crutchfield convinced him the tv has a "bad" network card. I don't buy it but once someone gets something in their head..oh well.

Hey Folks, interesting observation after working with Jeff Meier who calibrated my set. He showed me that Contrast had a truly direct impact on Gamma. That did not seem to be the case with my plasmas in the past. What we found is that I tended to like the depth of bt1886 but knew it was a bit crushed. I felt 2.2 was probably "right" but I missed a bit of depth in the image/color etc. He lowered contrast a bit and even on Gamma test patterns you can see direct impact almost to the point where the Contrast acts as a fine tune control impacting gamma. We arrived at 2.2 and Contrast lowered to 75. Anyone else seen this or done this? Thought I'd share for those struggling with Gamma.

Hey all, I'm cross posting this from the Playstation forum threads:

I've browsed the forum for years and the info here has been so great at getting me up to speed with my gaming setups so thanks for that but now I've run into an issue where I think I need to engage with the community.

I recently upgraded from a Sony KDL50W800B to an LG E8 OLED 65" TV.

While the OLED has been amazing visually, I've noticed a considerable input lag difference from the Sony model and it seems unusal as the LG has a great rating for input lag. It's most noticeable in FPS games like Apex etc but I'm also seeing it in games like Horizon as well. I didn't notice it in Sekiro though.

After some basic research, I haven't found any specific info about this LG TV combo and PS4. The LG has input lag rated at 21.4 and the Sony TV has input lag at 24.3.

I never noticed this when playing on the Sony TV which is why it's odd that I'm seeing it on the LG TV.

I know Game mode has to be on which I believe it is, but I was hoping to iron this out with some knowledgable people one here. Thanks for your time and any insight is greatly appreciated!

I don't think so. TruMotion etc are off I believe. I thought that might be the culprit but with Game Mode on it's automatically shut off. Should I look for other options to shut off in that vein?

Yea I would. I have been playing mortal kombat 11 online on my xbox and 2k on my ps4 pro with no lag issues on my c8. I normally run game mode with everything turned off as far as enhancements goes but I havent played Apex before so maybe it could be something server side within the game?

I don't think it's server side as I'm not noticing it on the old set.

Ok! Step one, let's remove all doubt. Long-press the Cog icon on the remote control, and verify that it says "Game" or "Game (User)" for Picture Mode.

Normally the scalers in modern TVs are far superior. The scalers in AVRs are general purpose. At these resolutions though it's harder to tell, but when I use my Denon 4200's scaler it adds undefeatable edge enhancement. So use the TV
In the Denon's output settings, leave "video conversion" on (to get the onscreen volume), and just turn "i/p scaler" off.

Might be worth it for those who want an OLED mainly for gaming. Once 2.1 GPUs come out the C9 gets even better.
They also decoupled the MPEG noise setting so you can set it independently now.

"the LG C9 has more manual settings in comparison to the LG C8, such for Smooth Gradation (which is independent from the MPEG Noise Reduction), Peak Brightness (available in the user menu as opposed to service menu like on the LG C8), and 22-point white balance controls."

Still, I went for the 2018s, such a good deal for virtually the same TV.

How does it achieve less chance of burn in?

Best to just try the options and decide for yourself which does better for you.
