Great.

Now that I've retaken images with the new settings, is the banding or the color tinting a big red flag that needs a replacement or is most of this going to work itself out during the break in period? I know not all the banding will go away and from what I've read that is normal. I just want to be sure what I have is not an obscene amount of banding out of the realm of normal including the curved banding on the left side of the screen.
There's a very good dedicated thread where more than just a few people can give you a better average judgement. - https://www.avsforum.com/forum/40-ol...ignetting.html . In particular, please follow the settings instructions in the first post of that thread. Your 5% picture looks much much too bright. I find it very difficult to take pictures of 5% in a fully dark room with the correct OLED Light setting, but that's what you need to do to "bring out the bands" that would be in the panel. TLDR - it's not possible to predict what will happen over the next 100-200hrs and without a proper dark level pic. Have a read of that thread and see what you think. HTH
I'll take my questions to that thread. Thanks. I applied all the settings recommended by rtings and that's what it looked like. I'll double check to make sure I didn't miss something

Is that too low? I mean is there a standard with nits for sdr viewing or just preference?

Not sure if TV can show that but some folks were able to use inexpensive lumen meters, place it right in front of the panel where the area is the brightest and divide the lumen output number by 3.4. That should roughly tell you the nit count :-P

As far as which light meter to get, don’t ask me. They can range from $10 to $3000 with example here

100-120 nits is suitable for SDR in a darkened room.

Bigger is better in my book all day..... It will be great when the 88" OLED is under 5K......

I revised my post.....Sorry that you said motion was better and I "assumed/projected" the TV was better in your eyes...... I would buy the LG over a Sony all day, if they where the same price I would buy the Sony, they are not so LG it is.....

--Lets say someone says these two units are tied 100% ( Which you did not do ) but this one is a tad better in this area, I am a half full kinda guy, to me that means the one is better........All good, there is no right or wrong answer around here we are all enjoying the technology we are granted at this point in time.

--I am absolutely not trying to speak for anyone, I am sorry if you took it that way. I did post that I "assumed" which I edited to say "assumed/projected".

--We agree that we would both buy LG's over Sony..... I have a LG too

Still seems like you are trying to speak for me in some way , it’s my money and if I had to make that decision again in the 65” range I would pick the C8 based on what I know now after ACTUAL ownership
of both sets . That’s my opinion and I wouldn’t presume to make that decision for anyone else .

I highly doubt they’d remove this feature as long as they still have the screen off option for energy saving which I don’t see them ever taking away but I can’t say for sure of course.

How can I tell if my TV has run a comp cycle? I had read that I am supposed to see something in the upper right corner after turning on the TV that signals it ran, but I have never seen anything. I ran a manual one about 12 hours of usage ago since it never ran one after the 1st 4 hours of having the TV on.

I ran across something with the Netflix app on my C8 with ARC to my receiver. I was watching an older show that only had 2 channels of audio. It seemed like the Netflix app/TV was passing the 2 channels to the receiver as a 5.1 (or higher) signal, so the receiver interpreted that it was receiving a 5.1+ signal and thus didn't apply any matrix decoding (Pro Logic, Neo, whatever), so nothing came out of the center channel.

I tried watching the same show/episode using Netflix on an Nvidia Shield and the Shield either did the matrix-ing or else passed the audio to the receiver as 2 channels so sound came out of the center channel. Is there any way to get the C8 Netflix app to do what the Shield does? I couldn't find any appropriate settings in the TV or Netflix menus. Should I just stick with the Shield for Netflix, at least for older 2.0 content?

@jcc

I couldn’t find though 5% or 10% gray backgrounds. Were those added to FAQ? If yes, I’ll scrub again :-)

Thanks!

It's pretty easy, use the C8 embedded youtube app and search for 5% or 10% grey.

P.S. In case anyone didn't already know, and for alot of the new owners, there is some great 4k stuff on the C8 you tube app. Just search 4k!! And welcome to all new owners and enjoy!!!

I have had no issues with it, GoT has looked great with it, even last weeks black crush episode. It was dark, but that was from filming.....I think though the .55 is still not calibration friendly if you were considering a professional cal.

I use a MediaLight Bias lighting kit that plugs into a USB port. When the comp cycle runs the port stays powered on and the lights stay lit until the cycle finishes. Kinda freaked me out when it first happened as the lights had always turned off with the TV before.

That was the beginning of a down hill slide for my C8, a few days later it would power on show the same kind of coloured streak (although my panel had it on the right side), then the next time I powered it up it would only stay running or 12 seconds then shut off.

Panel replaced under warranty.

AN-MR18BA's manual is of no help with entering channels numerically?

The MR18BA magic remote is a rather mysterious device. Although successfully paired with the C8 and STB, there are some intuitive functions that just don't work. I've read the useless manual and have searched, but couldn't find answers on how to call up a channel by just entering the channel's number. One would think that entering the numbers and clicking the wheel would do the trick...not so??? Also, although the voice does call the requested channel, it only does so with a PITA of clicks denying signing up for Google. Am I correct in that the only way to use voice without the interruptions is to sign up...or is there a workaround?
