I just made a funny reply to your little anecdote, nothing more...

05.10.00 is the best firmware so far (haven't tried 05.20.00 yet) and there is nothing wrong with it so even if the next final version isn't a 05.xx.xx, it's not like this will cause me any issues.

Also the 2016s and 2017s went from a 03.xx.xx at release to a 05.xx.xx at one point so it's just a matter of time until that happens on the 2018s.

I'm still fighting with LG to replace my tv. It's been over two months now. Initially the issue was an extremely dark picture and I'm on 4.10.15. Settings are maxed out. Here's a pic with a comparison of my $500 bedroom tv on the same scene.

Finally took delivery on my 65c8. First impressions:
Dish Network: my vt60 appears to look better as of now but I'll need to adjust some more settings.
Blu Ray: we'll all I can say is I definitely notcied that most of the clips I ran through looked better. I noticed some shadow detail i don't think I saw before and colors definitely pop.
Blu Ray 4k: only have blade runner 2049 but as of now comparing the regular 1080 there more detail, more depth to the movie that really makes it more immersive.
I just streamed our planet on Netflix non uhd and wow this truly stunning. I don't think my plasma can compete here.
I did notice a slight yellow line on the left side of the panel you can see in an all white screen but it doesn't appear in normal viewing. Will this go away with time?

Are you located in Russia? It's always best to stick with the version for your region (unless the Russian version is your region as well).

I have Dish Network too and initially I observed the same thing. But after 100+ hours good broadcast material (anything with 1080i or above) looks amazingly good! So, BE PATIENT...you will be rewarded.

You never commented on the stellar BLACKS! Those, along with the COLORS, is what stood out to me. I had fairly good black levels and colors with my Sony 940D (the FLAGSHIP LCD back in 2016), but I was always annoyed/distracted by light bleeding into my letter-boxed bars and halos around bright objects with a dark background. Those are a thing of the past!!

I agree on being patient! You get used to the picture on your old set as you've had it for a couple years. The black levels are stellar! I noticed a scene in fellowship of the ring that looked fantastic.

Where is the IR on this, I need to attache an IR blaster for control, but can not locate the sensor, you'd think service manual at least would have this, but it does not.
I'd thought it was lower left when looking at it, but that seems wrong on reviewing the TV again, can someone inform me of the location, as the normal flashlight to locate method is not working very well.

Thanks,
ERIC

I initially thought it was on the lower left also, but I believe it is on the lower right. I have had an IR blaster located on the right side directly under the panel and about 6 inches in from the right edge of the set and have not had a single issue in the past 6 months.

I have had my 65 inch C8 for about a month and have a little over 100 hours on it. I was planning to wait until I got to 200 hours and then hire a profession calibrator. I have to say I think the picture is stunning as it is and I hear it even gets a little better as you approach 200. I run in ISF Light/Dark and Cinema for DV. Is it really worth the money and would I actually notice a difference after professional calibration? Can it get that much better?

^yes these most certainly improve with time. As far as getting a calibration, if you absolutely want the best out of the C8, then yes I would get a Cal...luckily their are a few good calibrators on here you can hit up!

You should check out the “Display Calibration” section of this forum. I’m sure there are several that tour your area so it would only be a matter of contacting them and setting up a time when they will be touring your area. I got my C8 in late Jan and put in a request on ChadB’s website not a month later and put on a list for the next tour through my area. A week ago I was contacted by ChadB’s scheduler. He’ll be calibrating my C8 this coming Friday, as he has calibrated my last two panels I’m really looking forward to seeing my C8 at it’s full potential. Any how I believe this how most calibrators handle their tours and scheduling.

Have you reach out to your dealer who sold you the TV for support? All dealers have contacts to LG and they sometimes can help out, certainly at least try for you.......

I just got mine today and I love the picture but I noticed the sky and sunlight in a scene would result in whiting out a big part of the picture. I'm not sure what the best way to handle this is. It was doing it with the uhd of The Meg which otherwise looked jaw dropping.

Sounds like you're seeing HDR for the first time. You're in for a real treat. Also check out "The HDR Channel" on YouTube (make sure you use the TV's internal app).

Forget about 4K resolution. 4K resolution is 25% of the picture improvement. The MASSIVE leap, the most exciting change in TV technology since the introduction of colour, is HDR.

You would certainly not think that! Never happen. They need users to update because most of the time firmware updates are improvements and bugfixes. It's designed for that purpose. If they allowed an option to never update, that would be even worse for Support than it is now. Any good update system will provide constant "nudges" like this.

I had my C8 panel replaced yesterday by Geek Squad due to noticeable burn-in on red images. When they were finishing up attaching the back cover to the new panel, they we’re unable to attach two screws on the bottom left (if facing the back) side. The two screws would go underneath from the bottom up, near the speakers. They removed the cover again and noticed there wasn’t a place to screw them in, the old panel had spots to accept screws. So the left side of the back cover (power cord side) is not completely sealed against the panel. They said it shouldn't affect anything.

Is it possible they shipped me a different panel than the C8 since the back cover fit differently and would it even work if they did? That’s what the geek squad guys thought, but they were unable to confirm the model panel that LG shipped them. They thought it might be a newer 2019 panel or a complete different model like the B8. Are all 2018/19 panels the same, just the technology connected to them differs? They just removed all the tech guts from my old panel and connected it to the new panel. (in the picture, new panel is leaning against the sofa) Do the panels differ from model to model? Would I see any difference if they shipped a different model panel?

All my settings, serial number and hours remained the same after we powered on the new panel, but I notified some things weren’t working, like adjusting the color temp. So I reset the tv to factory settings, now everything seems to be working fine.

Any assistance to my questions would be greatly appreciated.

It doesn’t sound like they shipped the correct panel as I doubt LG would make a panel that isn’t an exact match to the old. Go back to BB and demand a new panel.

Is that the first burn-in report on a 2018? Do you have pictures?

Myself, I wouldn't care about the 2 screws if the new panel has good uniformity.

I forgot to disable engineering mode and last night my tv updated to 05.20.00 firmware.

I am in love again :-)

I would like to ask you if my TV is ok or I should ask for a repair or replacement. I'm talking about screen uniformity because my TV has a darker area on the left side of the screen and a vertical band on the right which has become less visible since I first noticed it (left area is always the same). I have now the TV for some month, used it a lot, done some pixel refresher and this is what I have now (see attachment). The image has been shot with my phone using a dark scene enhancement so it's not really so contrasted in real life but it's there and I can notice with some content if there is a uniform background or during pannings.
What do you think? I pay every month to have my TV covered by guarantee so I could use it to get it replaced if the screen is really bad.
