Reassuring to see that unless you need some of the eARC features, or the low latency for gaming, it doesn'seem to offer much of an upgrade to the 2018s. Just need the gamma fix firmware rolled out and then picture should be pretty much identical :-) Nice looking band there on the right side of the screen a minute into the video!

Did I steal it? It was a 7/24 Wally World display. Their NIB clearance price was borderline stealing, but I wasn’t lucky enough to get one of those. I’ll experiment with a few things but it’s probably going back.

I remember making a somewhat similar decision almost twenty years ago. I bought some monstrous Harmon Kardon Citation amps they were closing out on this auction site for about 70% off. I bought two and my wife thought it was a silly spur-of-the-moment decision. They turned out to be awesome amps and we still have then in our home theater today.

So sometimes these risks do pan out.
Nice deal! I ended up with a backup plan lol. Best Buy has a great in store price on the 55" B8, so I ordered one of those this morning and will go that route assuming I don’t have any luck improving the picture on the one I have.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Hi there ! I'm new here

I own a 55" LG C8 and it's on 4.10.55 firmware
I had a hard time calibrating it and I decide to check out on forums today, only to discover the issues caused by this firmware and the one before.
So I'd like to downgrade to 4.10.15 (or 4.10.20 ? I'm lost) to get the best picture quality as everyone says it's the only solution.

I know how to downgrade but I don't have the firmware.
Would someone here know where I could find it ?

I bought this TV in France and I guess every european model is the same, as usual.
So an UK firmware would be perfect.
But I'm pretty sure americans firmware won't work.

Thanks !

^^ What is wrong with 5.10.55? Seems all well to me. Do a search for "FAQING" or "JCC"

Hopefully this is not further trolling on the FW topic..

What problems are you observing? Hire a professional calibrator if you want the best calibration.. upgrading/downgrading firmware would NOT calibrate your TV.

Insert pithy comment here

You'll find 04.10.20 on a lg uk site...it will work greath for your model.
Just go to lg uk, and download the firmware from there.

A new firmware that many believe combines the best of .15 and .55 and fixes the bugs introduced in .39 is due out "soon". May be worth hanging on for a week or two before going through the hassle of downgrading.

The C8 is the best deal out there right now if you want high end PQ.

Stay on 15, the 55 has gamma broken at low end.

Did you not read two posts back? A new update is pending and that "should" be the fix we're all waiting for. If it were me I would wait for it (I have .55 and it's still crushing blacks a bit even with some tweaking of the gamma).

People here speak of updating to .55 like it’s the end of the world. Good lord it’s a simple tweak in the low end. It’s one thing if you’re professionally calibrated, but if you’re not you’re just following anti .55 crowd without an understanding.

I was still on .15 until a little over a week ago. I turned on the tv and then picked up the remote and accidently pressed a button as the Update appeared on the screen and viola I'm now on .55.

It's toooooooooooooo dark; at least on my set. I don't despise it, but it's a close call. The Handmaids Tale now looks better without the flashing. But I want the old gamma back and it should (knocks on wood) be back to the old gamma on a new firmware soon.

It's up too you whether you experiment or not. And there is no consensus on this issue. AT all.

Mine also is too dark but I will take it for a few weeks until the new update comes out. I will take too dark over FALD blooming any day of the week

C9 is a tad better but the average user would never know. The experts have agreed don't update unless you are going into a larger size....

Hard to believe, but some people use more than ISF dark. Game mode sucks on .55 and good luck with your simple tweak there.

Great deals on C8 make it hard to jump to a C9 instead . Next year maybe the upgrade to C10 will be a bigger difference .

Hi Gent,

I'm owner of LC C855, and I'm planning to buy new LG OLED for my living room, I need those owner LG C9 to help me, I'm thinking of C9 65,E8 &C8 65 both have discounted found in Newegg Limited Time Offer will finish in 3 days later (Monday), I was thinking about the E9 but unfortunately out of stock.

Is the C9 good deal worth to buy? or shall go for C8, E8 65?

https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?d=LG+OLE...rder=BESTMATCH

So, would you please help to decide which I could buy? also, is C9 panels still has an issue blotchy/uniformity like C8? please see the attached.

Your comments would be appreciated
Regards.

Exactly .55 is hardly the disaster some people are claiming, I adjusted gamma from bt.1886 to 2.4 isf dark OLED light 37 in medium room and looks fine to me. Noticed a tiny bit of momentary crush on very dark scene watching Bosch on Prime in HDR on my E8.

One way its finicky is when you have that set-up and also have an Apple TV4k. I've had to turn my Simplelink (ARC) off. Others have suggested a Lindy CEC-less adapter to fix the CEC issue that developes when ARC is on.

CEC can be problematic for a lot of folks, and it's not specific to any one mfr. They can all have issues because of the lack of CEC standardization and the way each mfr chooses to implement CEC. I don't bother with CEC at all and I don't need/want ARC. I just use an optical cable for cable tv audio only and a Harmony remote for single remote control of my HTS.

I have the same experience but I would add that it is probably best to have a newer AVR that allows you to disable CEC but still receive ARC.

Same for me, albeit my setup is simpler than others: C8, antenna, Oppo 103 (until I get a 4k BR), Anthem receiver. I have ARC and CEC working fine and I use the C8 remote for everything.

So I'd like to downgrade to 4.10.15 (or 4.10.20 ? I'm lost) to get the best picture quality as everyone says it's the only solution.
Welcome!

It's false that "everyone says" it's the only solution

If you just wait, the next firmware (already in beta) does fix this, with the same gamma as 4.10.15/20, but also, the very good improved near-black handling.

Otherwise if you really insist on downgrading and the calibrating, you are wasting your time (because when this next firmware is rolled out soon, which is much better, you will want to upgrade to it, and then you will have to calibrate all over again).
