This is the one I meant, just click link above

No need to apologize, I really appreciate your trying to help me.

That FAQ is, indeed, more comprehensive, so thanks for that. I'll stick to my current firmware, even though it appears to have "near-black overshoot problem" - whatever that is (the FAQ doesn't make it clear).

Also, I'm still looking for some feedback regarding the flimsy panel and the halo effect (none of which were an issue on the B7).

I haven't had the issue with the panel or the Halo effect.

Give the panel time. The break-in period is around 200 hours of usage time

Hasn’t the current engineering update been out for awhile? Typically how long between engineering updates and public updates?

I can't believe they don't have a disclaimer if it is indeed harmful. Any thoughts or feedback?
On one occasion I was told by LG to run the manual refresh 5 times before calling about any screen defects. On another occasion I was told to run it once monthly by another LG rep, if I felt concerned about image retention. I would think the customer would not be given carte blanche access if it was going to ruin the screen. I have never felt the need to run mine, but would not have an issue doing it if my screen looked like it was suffering from extreme ir or possible burn in. Probably not going to do it monthly either.

Some says it will shorten the lifespan of the panel but no documentation as proof nor warning on the manual. If it will damage it then they should have put warning message when you try to run or put rule in the code wherein you cannot run it below a specific intervals like number of days.

i am also a new lg c8 user(it has been a month) and just for precaution i started 1hour long "pixel refresher". I noticed dramatic brightness drop after that. I was using it at medium power consumption setting before and now i needed to set it back to off because in dark pictures details are gone completely. LG does not warn in the documentation about any brightness drop at all and suggest us do that whenever necessary(also rtings.com says it does not do any harm) yet it seems sony is right about pixel refresher and the lifespan of the panel.

I ran the pixel refresher 3-5x within a week trying to fix a stucked pixel on mine on May (a month old) and never experienced brightness drop.

Question

The E8 internal speakers vibrate the cabinet and maybe distort too much unless you turn off Atmos.

Anyone else found this to be the case?

I manually turn on Atmos only if the content is in Atmos. And then have to turn off after viewing.

Hi All,

Just got a 65" C8 for a very reasonable price. I'm quite pleased, but a little confused and frustrated with gaming on it. I am coming from an LCD, where the BFI doesn't reduce the image brightness. This set's BFI is very dark in comparison. It basically makes HDR look like SDR to me. Does anyone own this TV mainly for gaming? If so, what settings do you prefer? I've got this hooked up to a PS4 pro. I love how 1080 RGB HDR looks, with excellently smooth gradients, but the darkness with BFI counteracts that wow factor.

I also noticed that it caused terrible strobing effect while panning 30fps games.

Do you all even use BFI, or do you feel like the refresh rate is fast enough to just leave it off? I'm almost tempted to keep my LCD, but the 1080 RGB HDR performance on that is not to my liking.

Thanks

There seems to be two different branches of engineering FW. I was still on 05.10.00 and it updated to 05.10.02. I wonder what the difference between 05.10.XX and 05.20.XX is.
The WebOS version is the same (4.1.3-5619).

Near-black banding and uniformity issues seem to be common on OLEDs. There is a thread about it in the OLED forum:

@jk82 because I upgraded to both 05.10.00 and 05.20.00, and presumably everyone else who is on 05.20.xx did as well, there is no regional differences. I wondered why apparently anyone regardless of region could access the same engineering mode betas. Or is it only U.S. models that can do this?

Not sure I understand what you're asking. My TV is in an EU region and when it downloads engineering FW it is of course the FW specific for those regions. Mine is always labeled as 'DVB' whereas the US specific FW is labeled 'ATSC'. You can even manually download the engineering FW if you sniff out the url with wireshark.
Different regions usually still have the same version number.

By the way checking for updates again I get prompted for 05.20.02 now but gonna stick to 05.10.02 for now...

Although I do not intend to upgrade until a released firmware is available, but out of curiosity: did you see any changes with these incremental builds? Just curious how LG is progressing...

At least for those thinking LG has given up, these incremental builds prove they are doing true beta testing and fixing problems found by testers. A very good sign. With problems reported with the last few releases, they are simply doing their homework and taking the time needed to release something solid.

^^^ @jk82 , huh, I thought all FW numbers were different when region specific such as the two like 04.10.15 that was for the U.S. models and 04.10.20 that was for some European and some Asian regions otherwise being essentially the same. Inability to update to region specific Firmware that was not compatible with serial numbers has been discussed several times throughout this thread. So it is not the number that indicates region specific firmware. OK.

04.10.20 was a special case with some UK specific fix I think, besides that both EU and US got 04.10.15, 04.10.31 and 04.10.55. Identical fw numbers, identical fixes but still different regional firmware files.

Not sure about asian firmwares, they might use different FW numbers than EU/US.

Yes, as far as I know the numbers are common worldwide. 04.10.20 contained a fix for detecting HLG content properly in DVB-DASH streams. As this was primarily needed for the BBC iPlayer, it was a UK-only release but then, all builds after that also contain this fix. So anyone with 4.10.31 or later also has it.

Hey guys, just got my 77" C8 delivered a few minutes ago and was kind of shocked at the 4/19 build date. Wouldn't C9's have been in production by then?

I snapped a pic in case I am reading this wrong.

I'm beyond excited to get this thing unboxed, just hope panel ok.

Thanks!
