Don't be mislead by reading these forums. The C8 is a great TV, but nothing is perfect. Look at it this way, what's the price difference between the c8 and c9, 30%? So 30% to get a VERY small percentage improvement AND BTW, future firmware for the c9 could introduce something that really bugs you.

I think there are more happy users than unhappy users. I've had my 65 C8 since October and it has been phenomenal. Not perfect but no tv is.

Every recommended setting I've seen in a review results in a super-dark picture on my C8 with loss of detail. I'm wondering if I got a dud or if this is common or what people are going for? What are most here running their brightness and OLED light at?

I love the quality of the picture. Games look incredible. I just don't know why what other people seem to be running settings wise looks so dark to me.
Hdr always suggest Max OLED light I believe that's what I use. As far as SDR content, the darkest I ever have my OLED light level is 70. I use the preset modes, and have three modes calibrated identically but with OLED at levels 70 80 and 90. I switch between these three inputs so that I can quickly adjust my OLED light level between these values

I'm very happy with the C8 after installing the firmware, and I got it for less than half the price of a new C9. It looks amazing and I haven't even seen 4k video on it yet, just a couple 4k PC games.

If money is an issue this is a great time to get a C8. My Best Buy put the one I got on clearance the day before I went to look at it which was cheaper than the online price. With what I saved considering how much this TV went for at launch, I tricked myself into thinking the new stand and soundbase I ordered were free.

For the record, even though I've had my share of "negative posts" about the "black crush issue" that came with the FW Updates .31 and .55, I've also had MANY posts extolling the virtues of this amazing display. I've said that in the majority of material that I watch, the black levels and shadow details are phenomenal (along with gorgeous COLORS and excellent CONTRAST).

My biggest gripe is NOT with the black crush on certain broadcasts, but with LG for not introducing a FW Update to correct it. I still believe they are "dragging their heels" when it comes to releasing an official update that all of us can download without having to enter into the Service Menu to enjoy this marvelous display to its fullest potential.

Reports of 5.10.03 being spotted in the Engineering menu. I think this might explain why the OTA rollout of 5.10.02 seems to be paused.

Wait till the new wears off the C9 and there will be complaints. It happens across all brands and models. A long time ago we used to tell new owners of all Brands to never come back to these forums after they purchased. Just stay Home and enjoy your display.l have a C8 and would not buy a C9 to replace it with. There’s just not enough of usable upgrades to warrant the price difference.

Agreed. That's why I'm still on .15. Entering into the SM just to get an update that may or may not be the final release is ridiculous imo. But that's me.

Plenty of happy owners here, however if folks were only happy then these threads would only be a few pages long. Admittedly LG has dropped the ball a bit the C8 in regards to firmware.

Not trying to go off topic, but I have a question.

Has any one here been sucessful in programing the Amazon Video button on the remote to something else ?
I use the Netflix button but would like to have the amazon button to control VUDU or something else I choose.
I am almost certain I know the answer, but I thought it was worth a shot.

I don’t think you can reprogram it but you might benefit from the Quick Access feature. Press and hold 0 for a few seconds then you can assign apps, like VUDU, or an HDMI input to a digit. Long press the assigned digit to directly launch the app or change to the input.

Is it still at Korean website?
No one posted direct link for that download page, only file.
Google translate seems not work for Korean LG site so it´s pretty hard to navigate just by clicking those hieroglyphs

4 out 7 713 468 000 reported 05.10.02 OTA update, seems LG´s tactic is really pretty moderate

I received the .55 firmware quite early (Western Europe), but so far no sign of the new one...

I don't know if this will help you, but I went to jRocker23 Post # 18775 and just downloaded it there. I then transfered it to a thumb drive and plugged it in, the rest was automatic.

Been at 05.10.00 for a while and it´s just fine, like 04.10.15 but had to add 2 clicks brightness. Not know if 05.10.02 is same.
I´m just curious how wide that new fw is spread, there´s only few OTA update reports at AV and AVS forums and then it´s at Korean website.
Wonder why it´s not at US site if it´s same version.

I hope that someone with a meter measures whether the new firmware calibrates identically to 4.10.15, or whether the new firmware breaks calibrations. I'd like to know whether I'll need to get a new calibration before I install the new firmware.

Thx for post. On 5.10.02 now via USB thumb drive.

Here's a direct link to @Jrocker23 post 18775: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/40-ol...l#post58254056 . Just create folder LG_DTV in root directory of USB thumb drive and place the .EPK file for 5.10.02 in that folder. While TV is on, insert USB drive into LG USB port and follow directions. Thx @Jrocker23 !

Thanks!
I'm a little late to the party but I'm a happy 65C7 and 65C8 owner, though several others have already said as much. I'm not even close to the most critical viewer on this thread (hell, I'm probably outside the top 50), but I am critical enough that I can spot display errors if and when I see them. Despite that, I've never regretted either of my purchases and I came from a high quality plasma, so my expectations were already pretty high before I dove in.

My advice: if money is a concern, get the C8.

Thanks everyone for your honest responses

I think I will go for a C865 as soon as I can......seems like an easy decision.

Now for the hard part............does anyone have any tips on how I can convince my wife it's a good investment???
