Hi guys just got the e8 and finally mounted/setup. So happy coming from an old 47 inch led thats older than 5 years, that is still going strong btw.

For the audio, should I let the Xbox one decode (has Atmos/purchased the app) or let the TV decode? They both have Atmos so not sure what to go with?

TIA

Do you think it's still safe to upgrade to the official release that was posted earlier?

Should be. If .03 comes out my understanding is it will just overwrite .02 since its a higher number.

I would think it is fine. I am not sure what changed between .05.10.00 to .05.20.00 to .05.20.02 to .05.10.02 to .05.10.03 but I am guessing in all of the above the gamma, smooth gradation and macroblocking was fixed. Maybe LG noticed other minor details were affected but unless they release official details we probably will never know.

Here's a direct link to @Jrocker23 post 18775: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/40-ol...l#post58254056 . Just create folder LG_DTV in root directory of USB thumb drive and place the .EPK file for 5.10.02 in that folder. While TV is on, insert USB drive into LG USB port and follow directions. Thx @Jrocker23 !

If I didn't like this update, is it true I couldn't go back to the .15 I'm happy with (I have it on USB stick right now and go back to it whenever the TV accidentally updates)? Only reason I'd consider leaving 15 is getting rid of those daily pesky messages.

I couldn't go back to the previous FW after installing 05.10.02 when I thought it screwed up the TV. Apparently it'll only recognize firmware versions with a higher number than what's currently installed. Fixed the issue so no need to try again.

Thanks! I'm going to have to be oh so careful once 05.10.02 goes out to everyone then.

Gamma is the reason I'm staying on .15 and I understand while 05.10.02 improved greatly over the spring updates, it isn't exactly .15?

Plenty of happy owners here, however if folks were only happy then these threads would only be a few pages long. Admittedly LG has dropped the ball a bit the C8 in regards to firmware.
Firmware is tricky, seems like it is like the movie the Butterfly Effect. Fix one thing, create another problem, should you try to go back or move forward. Talk about pulling your hair out......

Can someone please post a screenshot of the SYSTEM 2 menu for the C8?
After switching NSU mode I might have accidentally changed one of the settings in the lines below with the remotes navigation keys.

Thanks in advance!

Good morning

I have been wondering a few things about my LG C8 recently.

First off, and I will admit to very limited understanding on this subject, what color space should my connected video devices, such as my 4K blu-ray player and Apple TV 4K be set to? 4:2:2? 4:4:4? I read awhile back that if you connect a device with 4:4:4 you need to change your input to be a "PC" input. Since I am not using my TV as a monitor, I assumed that didn't apply to me. But I thought I would just ask to be sure.

Secondly, how do you adjust a 20 point IRE? I know how to change it from 2 point to 20, but how do you do the actual adjustments?

Thanks

That's why you should never go into the SM. Hopefully if someone posts the System 2 menu it's not specific for the build version.

From what I have seen the behavior of 5.10.x is the same gamma response as .15

I would leave the chroma at what ever the default is, or auto.

4:4:4 chroma is not possible to send over HDMI 2.0 when doing 60Hz 4K HDR. There isn't enough bandwidth. Besides the content (at least if a movie) is already 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 so you might as well send that and let the TV expand it rather than having the player expand it (and exceed the HDMI bandwidth which would require dropping framerate, HDR or resolution).

The only time 4:4:4 is needed is for colored text to be clear, so for a PC desktop or web browsing and similar, but in those cases you probably don't need HDR, so you should be OK with 4k 60Hz non HDR with 4:4:4 in that case. Hence that is what PC mode uses as far as I understand it.

Sure would like to see a C8-oriented youtube video of an LG Home calibration using the most affordable (yet effective) pattern generator recommended by Portrait Display. The C9 seems to be getting all the youtube love with its built-in patterns.

So here I am obsessing over my screen before the return window is up on Sunday, hoping nothing's wrong.

When I look at the edges with a flashlight before it meets the bezel, it looks like a little bit of translucent overhang. Is this normal or is at a protective film I'm supposed to peel off?

If so, number one I'll feel dumb, and number 2 how do you get it off?

If possible, I’d like to propose a new topic: Dynamic Tone Mapping.

Do you leave it on for everything or switch off depending upon the source device/media?

I have a Panasonic UB820 and lean towards keeping it off when utilizing the HDR Optimizer.

What’re your thoughts?

Thank you!
