I'm trying to figure out why when I watch football (ESPN is running the best college games) my screen gets dark but when it goes to commercials the brightness is back. I don't have any economy settings on.
I only notice it on football games. Not sure what's going on. Doesn't seem to do that on other programing. It's almost like it's irising down like on a lens. Similar to watching youtube or netflix and have it on pause for a couple of minutes and the scene gets darker.

I am using the 'Sports' setting for viewing. My firmware is 04.10.55.
My understanding is that it’s the ABL. Happens to me when watching sports also. Fairly annoying

Man, Alien: Covenant just looks so good on these TVs. It's plain ole' HDR10 but the contrast and highlights are just outstanding. Better shadow detail now on the latest firmware as well.

Yeah, S3 they really nailed it with HDR. That show was made for OLED contrast. The wider color especially in the mall scenes was pure eye candy too.

I have the first TWO SEASONS on Blu-ray and they look excellent, but I may have to sign up for Netflix just to see Season 3!

I just watched a couple episodes of Fear the Walking Dead on AMC and previously the shadow details were crushed in really dark night scenes, but tonight they were amazingly good. This was my first TEST to see the difference the 05.10.03 firmware had made for SDR material.

I'll also have to slip in my UHD Blu-ray version of Alien Covenant after reading how good the shadow details are now.

I never got into that show but I've heard good things. I just watched the most recent Godzilla and the C8 did so well in the dark scenes where the monsters where fighting each other it was insane. I'm also ordered a copy of arrival on 4k heard good things about that too.

Truth be told, I'm not a really big fan either (though I've watched The Walking Dead faithfully every season), but I did record the last few episodes for the sole purpose of checking out the dark scenes for black crush.

Okay, I've been doing some "channel surfing" and was curious to see some night scenes from the movie Knight and Day (starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz) on CMT (a channel that's not always known for very good reception). I just watched a long scene involving a car chase and then Diaz snooping around in someone's backyard and the shadow details were EXQUISITE. I'm quite sure if I would still be running the 04.10.55 firmware the details would have been crushed. I am one Happy Camper with the new FW!!

panel brightness with firmware 05.20.03

Hello everybody

I am now on my C8 OLED from 05:20:02 on the 05:20:03 firmware changed including factory reset. The firmware from the engineering mode.

I have been watching HDR module on in the service menu for half a year.

So with me there was now with the current 05:03:03 firmware a huge leap in image brightness in SDR content.

White surfaces literally outshine and the colors are also more intense, stronger. Almost as if the panel overdriven.

Both when I'm watching with HDR modules on or Normal (then a bit weaker).

How can that be ? It is so the bright surfaces already dazzle directly.
I had to adjust the OLED light 20 clicks down. And the picture is still relatively bright.

Is this a bug in 05.20.03?

Has anyone else observed the 05er firmwares?

at 05.10.00 and 05.20.00 I did not notice that, because I did not make a factory reset. Is it because of that?

Greetings from Germany and a great forum here

Not sure but might be worth a shot, you can find out how to do it in a dedicated thread on the subject . Won’t go into it here since some are sensitive to such discussions the other possibility is I just don’t notice it lol

Installed .03 and hit 200 hours this morning. Every day it seems like the picture gets better. I thought the newness of it would have worn off by now but I'm still amazed after nearly a month. If only I can get over the guilt of hiding this in a bedroom where more people can't see it.

.03 has been the winner for me.

Mine was on about 300 hours before I felt comfortable enough to get the meter's on it and do a little work. It has changed a little over the last 1000 hours, but not near the rate it changed during the first 300.
Congratulations. It always nice to hear about someone satisfied with their purchase here on the Forum.

Congratulations. It always nice to hear about someone satisfied with their purchase here on the Forum.
Was more changed with .03 than Google assistant?

After the update my PC started in HD deep color/HDR, which it wouldn't do on .02. I would get the message previously then the picture would go black. I also had to turn the OLED light down to 70 from the 80 I ran it at playing a certain game in HDR before. It could probably be turned down a bit more.
