Well, was able to update to new firmware manually but it sure seems strange that for a brand new display the auto update feature won't work properly. Told customer service rep I would be letting A.V. community know about this annoying glitch.(plus the fact that there is no mention on the instruction guide of going to the input menu to eject the flash drive. Not all of us are that technology knowledable. I know I'm not.)

UPDATE: talking wit cus rep now and she says that some new displays don't recognize new updates. Really? Auto update on a $9000 display and it doesn’t work? Downloading file to flash drive and see if I can do it that way or she says to try and reset the display. Great.

Updates are staggered in release so they don't have everyone try to download it at once, and potentially everyone call support with a problem at the same time. So the support person simple has no clue how it works. The TV will see the update eventually when it becomes its turn. Advanced users of course have the option to skip the staggered release by using USB.

Just put my C8 through an absolute torture test of gaming yesterday and coming from plasma (definitely familiar with temporary IR), figured id take a look at some slides afterwards to see the "damage". Absolutely NOTHING - I was actually kind of amazed how there was no temporary retention around any of the HUD features on any slides. Set is just shy of 100 hours now, and am really pleased with gaming on it overall.

One odd thing I discovered though, is if I use Bluetooth headphones for audio from the TV, it locks out "Game" mode - kind of odd. Standard seemed fine for me as far as input lag goes, but anyone else encounter this? Didn't spend a ton of time testing each setting, but wonder if the input lag would have been better or worse on any of the other settings.

Thanks for the info. So how long is the stagger? I saw the update came out on May 23 so curious if we know how long it takes to get it out to everyone so I don't bother them again. I'd rather wait for it to auto update.

In some games you probably won't notice as much but I mostly play EA NHL and the lag difference is easily noticeable between Game(very good) and any other mode(bad). All the other modes seemed to have the same amount lag with all options turned off.

No idea. LG doesn't say. Seems some updates can take months to roll out and others happen faster.

Might be a good thing you can let everyone else be a guinea pig to make sure the update is good.......

Ya, I wonder if there are just a few bad screens out there that are prone to BI.

If you use the
Code:
Name EFC5 EFC OBC HEX
channel up 00181	181	0	FF
channel down 00185	185	1	7F
switch when posting the chart it might help it display it in a more organized fashion.

(code)abcd(/code) Just replace the parentheses with brackets.

Am having audio sync issues on my 65C8 with Youtube, with TV sound output through optical to my Yamaha YSP-2500. The video is leading the audio, seeing lipsync issues. Checked the soundbar and the TV, there's no audio delays configured in either.

Funny thing is, switched to internal speakers and the lipsync seems fine. If I use internal+optical, I hear an echo effect, like first sound through speakers and then through the soundbar.

Quick check with Amazon and Netflix apps through the soundbar look fine, don't see any issues. But see the Youtube issue on pretty much everything I've tried there.

This sort of thing ring any bells with anyone? Thanks.

Spoiler!
I had intermittent audio sync issues that i couldnt consistently dial out using optical out from my 55C8 to a soundbar. Switching to ARC HDMI out seems to have mostly solved it.

These OLEDs are quirky but i think optical out is just generally problematic for this application. HDMI definitely isnt perfect, either. I would imagine everything works better for audio sync when the video display is the last in the signal chain?

Interesting, the reference notes only mention an update to DV. Can anyone else confirm? I was going to hold off updating manually but maybe I need to rethink that.

Just picked up a C8 replacing a defective E7 on the weekend. If anyone else has switched from a 7 to 8, is it just me but the picture on the C8 seems noticeably softer then the E7? Anyone else notice this?

I have a b7 in my bedroom and went from a e6 to the c8 and the c8 is definitely sharper. Many reviews mention the c8 is sharper then last years.

I recall reading something about better motion but only in vivid mode? On the 8 (something Vincent T said?) in a thread. Perhaps they rolled the motion improvements out to other picture modes?

Agreed, at first I didn't expect too much of a difference, but after popping in BR 2049 4k, I noticed that it looked sharper on my 65C8, in addition the near blacks are phenomenal, the best I've seen yet with minimal adjustment on my end...on my previous e6, and c7 I had to go to 5%ire and raise it a few notches to bring out more detail. The best part is the improvement in uniformity, no issues with jailbars whatsoever, I would dare to say perfect uniformity. The only issue I have with it although minor is the dynamic tone mapping setting, I've mentioned this before, but something doesn't seem right with it on, I leave it off for now and suspect LG will fix this via firmware, as the C7 handles it better. Overall this is an exceptional set, and will be hard to beat.

I really keep debating on selling my E6 to get a C8 if I could find a relatively local buyer. I could sell the E6 for C8 buydig pricing or so and end up with the newer tv...i really despise the E6 sub 1080p upscaling as my biggest pet peeve. I don't use 3D whatsoever.

It still has some issues with low quality sources. The Sony is better if you are worried about sub 1080 content.

I was over at Best Buy today looking at a stand mounted C8. I noticed reflections on the stand from the content being played. To me, it looked like it could be a distraction. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a nonissue?

Thanks

The stand hasn’t bothered me at all for reflections. It’s kind of tipsy if you push back on the tv though.

After giving up my c7 due to dim hdr game mode and brief stints with the Samsung Q9FN and Sony A8F, I ended up with an LG C8. This is the tv checks more boxes for me than any other set. The q9 was a disaster. It was like going back in time with picture quality. Yea it was super bright and all, and black levels were remarkable. No complaints there and the black bars were perfectly acceptable for me and I’m used to oleds. The problem was the horrible uniformity, banding, DSE and worse of all...really awful color. The pink/purple face push was real and couldn’t calibrate that out without ruining other parts of the picture. I had other complaints as well such as handshaking issues, elevated dark grays which couldn’t be fixed unless I crushed the blacks.
I returned it for an A8F. At first i thought it was a great tv and better upscaling than my c7, better color and way better motion. Compared to my old c7 I immediately noticed a big improvement in clarity, sharpness, less noise and posterization practically gone. Near blacks also better on the a8f. Also very uniform with no vertical banding. Perfect tv right? I then put on sports and that’s when things started going downhill. Very very bad abl dimmed the Stanley cup finals in hockey to a point where I kept having to change the channel and put it back to get the brightness back up. Then I tried some hdr movies on my Apple TV 4K and I was shocked when I saw how dark and dull with complete absence of specular highlights unless I turned on contrast enhancer. Dolby vision was even worse. Practically unwatchable unless contrast enhancer was set to high. Put on an hdr game...again..dim as hell after abl constantly kicking in made it as bad as the dim hdr game mode issue on the c7.
So that left me with no other choice than reluctantly going back to LG after swearing them off due to the dim game mode on the c7 which pissed the hell out of me. I got the c8 and put it side by side with the Sony a8f and all I gotta say is WOW. Huge improvement over the c7. No vertical banding on the c8 just like the a8f so the 2018 panels are way more uniform. The upscaling, for both bad sources and clean 1080p blurays, matched the Sony! Almost identical upscaling performance, and I’m very picky when it comes to artifacts, posterization, etc. and I was shocked to see the a9 chip basically matched the x1 extreme chip 99%. I would rate the Sony processing and motion on the a8f 1% better than the c8 only because I literally had to search and put my eyes literally a foot from the screen to see a difference and if there is a difference it’s so subtle, it’s a total non factor for choosing between the two. Moving on to hdr, it was no question the c8 blows the a8f away in that department. The c8 looks awesome in hdr with dynamic tone mapping. Highlights pop out and you can tell you are watching hdr and Dolby vision is even more jaw dropping. I was shocked and very happy to see this. Color also much better on the c8. It doesn’t have that blue push. HDR Gaming is great. ABL is a non factor on this tv. Couldn’t be happier and no I can watch sports without having to reset the abl every minute. For all those that are undecided but leaning towards a Sony OLED over a c8, or are thinking about switching to qled, or even thinking 2017 oled to save a few bucks over 2018, the choice is clear IMHO. Go with a C8 and you will be a very happy camper. Disclaimer though....if you go with a c8 or any set for that matter, I suggest turning off all updates unless you do the research first and make sure they don’t mess up something in regards to the picture quality. LG destroyed hdr game mode last year with a software update that made it super dim, and Sony gave their oleds overly aggressive abl resulting in a severely extremely dim with sports and gaming after their last firmware update. So my suggestion is to turn off all updates until you are sure they won’t mess things up for you.

Wow my friend did pretty much the same thing, except he had a Sony A1 OLED. But yeah the ABL and dim HDR picture were pretty bad on the Sony.
