I should also mention I just finished all of the episodes of Season 2 and the banding was all over the place, most notably in the sky but also against light backgrounds like yellow or white walls in homes or in the President's Palace in Venezuela.

You might want to try it, it activates super but mapping on low and that can help with banding . Yes you will lose some detail but I guess if the banding is really bothersome worth a shot . I binge eat because that show a few weeks ago and don’t recall any banding issues.

Okay, I will try it the next time I stream Amazon Prime, which may be tomorrow night (the Final Season of The Man in the High Castle).

I decided to slip in my best "Reference Quality" UHD disc (Transformers: The Last Knight) and there wasn't even the smallest hint of banding and I went through nearly every chapter. So, it is most definitely "source-related" in my opinion. Having said that, I will still try activating the Noise Reduction feature for HDR when I stream Amazon.

That's extremely panel, room, and lighting specific though someone with a lot of experience with the TVs can probably give you a general range that they fall into.

Ok. I just watched epi 3 and 4 (or 4 and 5) via the ATV4k and pq was fine. No issues at all. In fact I probably paid more attention to the pq than the story . HDR was confirmed. Firmware 5.10.20.

I never trust an atom, they make up everything.

Contrast at 85 and Backlight at 22 (on my C8 that hits 100 nits on a 10% 235 window).

Thanks for the quick response!

I guess I'll have to do a little more "detective work" to figure this one out. Today I'll be streaming the Final Series of The Man in the High Castle in 4K so we'll see if that too has issues with banding. Again, I had no problem whatsoever watching Jack Ryan in "HD" but for some reason the banding was horrendous in UHD. BTW, I stream everything with my Roku Premiere Plus.

I am curious if anyone is using the Philips Hue SyncBox with these TVs.

To those who are unfamiliar, think of the Hue SyncBox as like... surround sound for lights. The catch is that the HDMI signal has to pass through the SyncBox so it can then send the correct lighting commands to the connected lights.

For most of my cases, this isn't a problem. However, if I want to watch something on my smart TV's native apps, it won't work because the content is not passing through the SyncBox.

So my question is... is there any possible way to output the video signal from the native TV apps? I'm guessing no, but figured if anyone knew how to do it, they probably read this thread

Getting a bit offtopic... but in your estimation, do you think we will see this in coming years? I think it could be a really nice feature... one that I don't think any of us would have had much use for 10 or 20 years ago but one that could have several use cases going forward.

With the C8 Disney + app, can 5.1 be output via optical...or is it just stereo like is happening with ARC?

I think someone else said they are only getting stereo through optical also. I'm sure once their servers stop getting hammered and the bugs get squashed they'll implement surround sound/atmos on all the devices.

Why do you get such confidence they will do that? They've been planning this for years. They surely wouldn't launch before they were ready, would they LOL. This is it.

This could be because Disney Plus has only been released in the US and Canada officially as far as I know. It seems to me like the only difference in that firmware is Disney Plus support.

Because most of their content is already encoded with surround or atmos....and some devices already have it (Roku, Apple tv, etc.)

Bit of an embarrassing disaster for them to have such a screwed up situation at launch, then. They should have planned it better, or postponed the launch. Hope they give refunds to people who can only get stereo, I'm sure they will do the right thing.

I agree, sound is more important to me than the PQ so it's extremely irritating.

I have noticed in the descriptions on my Roku for programs it says 5.1 and for the same programs on the app it does not. This leads me to believe that only stereo is offered on the app.

Those of you that have receivers can simply turn on Dolby Pro Logic/Surround or DTS:Neo/Neural:X to at least have the receiver decode a mono surround channel. Of course it’s not discrete 5.1 but until Disney updates the app with 5.1 support it’s better and more immersive than stereo. Usually these stereo tracks are fold downs anyway.

Burn in IS an issue on LG oled

Recently I discovered that both my E6 and E8 suffer from a bit of burn in. The bright orange, and enormous, Nickelodeon logo is visible on smooth reddish backgrounds as a slightly grey 'after image'. My little girl watches this channel regularly early mornings as a backdrop for child-play when she wakes up. I am not sure when this started, but it can't be more than little over a year for both sets (the E6 was moved to our bedroom and is seldom used for this channel now), and never for extended periods of time day after day. It is not visible during normal watching, only during breaks and ads, as they often use static single colored backgrounds.

I ran the panel noise routine on the E6 but that made little difference. I blocked this channel on both sets and will see if it will fade away, or not. I hated the artificial laughter anyway, so that is a positive.

DRM should prevent screen sharing when watching copy-protected content on the telephone. If they haven't done this they have left a HUGE gaping hole in their security.
