Got mine this past Monday and set it up with the suggested calibration settings.

Just to confirm:
  • Connect OPPO and Roku Ultra to ports 3/4 and enabled "high quality" settings.
  • No special settings on the Roku Ultra for best video quality. Since I don't have ARC/Bravia Sync set up I ran optical from the TV to my processor.
  • I loaded Kodi onto the TV. Any way to get at the Kodi filesystem so I can configure it like my other Kodi box?

Very very pleased with it. Watch Blade Runner 2049 and it looked great. Some places I was hoping for more shadow details but I think a professional calibration will address that?

Still not certain if the OPPO has better upscaling than the Sony but that's how I have it set up for now.

What are good motion settings for watching the NBA playoffs?

Hello,

Two weeks ago, I purchased the 55" A8F. I love the tv.

Here's my question. I was fooling around out of curiosity going through menus and such, and came across a screen telling the that the up time for the set was 331 hours.

I have only had it two weeks. Is the "up time" how many hours the set has been plugged in, or the hours it has been powered-on?

Thanks!

Updated with USB. Works good No internet version yet. Says it rolls out coming weeks. The annoying ethernet is not connected is gone. DV works just as good as the earlier Oreo update that I used. I didn't wait on this before the roll-back. Can't try ARC since my ARC connection to AVR worked good on the old also.

Any powered subwoofer that takes line level input should work. I tried my PSB Series 1 using a 1/8" stereo to dual RCA jack cable and plugged it into the inputs on the sub and set the headphone jack to subwoofer mode and it worked great. I of course then put the subwoofer back to the proper audio system since it was just to test that it worked.

I cannot explain it. Blu Ray looks decent. NetworkTV is awful compared to plasma. Even Blu Ray is better on the plasma Rendering is much better. I will give it a few more days. I did not get a manual with my TV. Just a minimal set up guide. Maybe I got a set somebody returned? lol

What specifically do you not like? Motion, upscaling, color..?

My AF8 is set to be delivered today and I'm upgrading from an 8 year old Panasonic Plasma. I've primarily waited this long to upgrade due to what I've perceived as inferior handling of 1080p and below content on newer sets (which is the majority of my consumed content). I went with the AF8 specifically because of what people have reported are its strengths: upscaling and motion. I'll be sure to weigh in my thoughts over the weekend as well.

Still getting used to it. Not sure if its too bright, motion is not good, but better than my friends LG oled. I thought it would be better. Blu ray is good, 4K is very good. It does not have as natural an image as plasma. Network TV is much better on plasma. I was spoiled for years with plasma. I am surprised that they still cannot beat it in many ways. The color is okay, better on the pioneer elite and samsung plasma. Maybe I got a bad set as i am getting headaches. Maybe I am sitting too close. My eyes are between 9 and 10 feet away. Did anybody else get a manual? I did not.

I would say that the real appeal of this set would be the 4k if you are into movies. The blu ray is very good as well although I am not sure it beats my plasma. Its different, not better. If I get a headache today, It may be going back to the store. lol

I got mine a few days ago (a week or two?) to upgrade from a Panny GT50.

The OLED is definitely brighter, the colors seem accurate but different, the motion handling is a tossup but required fiddling on the A8F that I don't remember doing on the Panny and still not quite right.

One thing that is nicer about the A8F is watching in a dark room. With the plasma it was always better to have the "accent" lighting. With the A8F no lighting seems better.

I was using THX Cinema mode on the Panny so moved to Cinema Pro on the A8F.

Out of the box, the A8F was a bit cartoonish in brightness etc.

Just got my new a8f up and running and updated to the latest firmware. I'm very happy with the results, after a bit of fiddling and reviewing some of the settings guides.

I found the most critical settings for my viewing taste to be:

Cinema pro
Max brightness
90 contrast
0 gamma
50 black level
Black adj off
Peak luminance medium

Color temp expert 1

Reality creation off
Smooth gradation low

Motionflow true cinema
Cinemotion medium

I did notice that depending on source, I apparently needed to set these settings multiple times..something to be aware of.

Very thrilled with the results though! Motion is very similar to my plasma, brightness is noticeably higher, blacks are deeper, color is more accurate.

Anyone have an A8F mounted over the fireplace? We just bought a house and I am thinking of doing that with a soundbar on the mantle, or maybe just use the tv speakers. Kinda curious what mount you used.

Hi...New Jersey Here. Anyone in NJ area get pushed the latest update yet? I prefer to wait for that instead of by USB. I have not gotten it pushed yet. I know they tend to roll out slowly and by region. Thanks

Question about 2018 A8G

Related Question:

I’ve got limited space in my living room, so I can’t do a full surround setup but want good sound that will fill the space (open concept and high ceilings). I’ve pre-ordered an A8G that will be wall mounted. I’m assuming the Acoustic Surface isn’t going to provide enough depth for a room this size.

I’ve been debating purchasing the new Sony HT-X8500 to compensate but am not sure if it makes sense to go that route - given that one of the features of the A8G is the acoustic surface audio. My understanding is that if I use the soundbar, I’d be forgoing the acoustic surface entirely? Anyone have insight into whether those two would be a good pairing?

I can not afford to make the jump to the A9G, so trying to suss out the right option for the available space and my price window.

My A1E and A8F screen speaker sounds good IMO. In my move, I am going to mount the A8F over the fireplace in our living room, and prob won't even use a soundbar. I've ordered an A9G for the HT room to go with my speaker setup.

I have the a8f set up with an external subwoofer and it sounds great - definitely able to keep up with 2.1 or similar sound bars in a small-medium sized room.
