Just picked up a 65" B8 yesterday and notice that there is no owners thread yet.
I haven't had too much time to mess around with it yet and haven't yet found any suggested starting calibration settings online.
Anyone else have experience and/or thoughts on this OLED?
I'm very interested in this model for the simple fact that the stand doesn't take a super wide table. Curious how this stacks up vs the C8 models in real world tests.
My understanding is the C8 and higher models have the alpha 9 processor while the B8 processor has the alpha 7 processor.
The alpha 7 processor cannot do HFR and HDR at the same time and it only employs a 2 step process noise process instead of a 4 step process. The B8 is still able to smooth color gradation with the 2 step process.
So far with only a single day of use it seems good.
I have the 55" C7 upstairs and the image quality has no perceptible differences to my eyes.
I can't really comment on the motion interpolation, noise reduction, or Trumotion since I don't use any of those features thus have them all turned off.
I use a soundbar so the fact that the B8 is not 2.1 is also not a difference that I notice.

Thanks! Although I still prefer the simplicity of the C7 stand I certainly prefer it over the C8 and B7 stands. It should also be better with reflections than the C7 stand.
Got one of these yesterday. Picture looked fantastic. That is until I put on an image that covered the screen in black. The entire left side of the screen switched to almost light grey. Might have a dud.
I have just checked my own set and do not have the same issue.
I have run the set for a total of 60 hours now (though did not do this test before you mentioned it) so I do not know if having run the set for a while has any impact.
I do know that there is a screen refresh option that is meant to get rid of faded or burnt in areas. It takes about an hour to run.
Perhaps it is worth running this before lugging the whole thing back from whence it came?
I did four times in the past two days and nothing is happening. Will LG actually send someone out to possibly fix it or do they send someone out to look at it and then see if it’s something they will fix? I’ve never had this happen.
A local tech will come to you to check it out. The tech will most likely contact LG while in front of your TV to send some live video and pics so they can determine if a panel replacement is warranted. If they do send someone make sure that it’s easily seen by the tech so if you have to darken the room do whatever is necessary. Within spec is their two favorite words so you need to make sure it’s as clear as possible that there is a problem.
Thanks. I’m going to call them tomorrow. The problem is extremely obvious using the Blu-ray I initially saw it on. There is no denying that it isn’t right.
Out of curiosity, is there a reason you're going through the hassle of contacting LG and getting a tech to come as opposed to just returning it to the dealer you purchased it from and exchanging for a new panel?
Could someone please tell me how wide the B8 stand is and how high it lifts up the tv. Need to fit it on a tabletop stand that is 33 inches wide. Would go with the C8 but that stand would hang over my tabletop. Thanks for your help
Just bought the 65" B8P from Best Buy, gotta say this is a major improvement over my 4 year old UB8500 IPS TV.
For those who are using the Netflix/Amazon app and are outputting via ARC back to your receiver, has anyone got static noise? Currently have the ARC running from HDMI 2 to my Pioneer VSX-824-K but I'm not sure if the static I'm getting is because my receiver doesn't do HDCP 2.2 (my receiver only does HDCP 1.4)
That is actually very interesting... I wonder why LG even bothered with this line in this case... kinda hard to justify it other than the more versatile stand.
LG refused to acknowledge there was an issue with half the screen being grey since it was grey all the time. They said it was the movie I was watching even though it happens on everything. Local tech guy tried to tell them there was a problem, but they wouldn’t bite. He said LG always pulls this crap. So, this is going back to the store and I’m going to try an LED. Wanted to love Oled but after 2 lemons, I’m going to try something else. Plus, I can see LG not being helpful in the future if a problem happens on a new, good set.
I think it looks very similar to the C7 myself which is I think is a good thing. The gradient smoothing feature works the same way - set MPEG noise reduction to low - but I don't know if it's less effective due to the alpha 7 processor. If not I don't see the point of favoring the C8 over the B8, aesthetically and in terms of the stand's footprint I prefer the B8.
The B8 viewing angle test video on rtings doesn't look too great. I know that some color shift is typical, even on OLED, but in that test her flesh tones go from pink and ruddy to pale & sickly by 25 degrees. At 30 degrees she's practically Martian or Vulcan. The C8 test result looks better visually, even though they are both rated at 28 degrees for the numerical scoring/measurement.
Just picked up a 55” B8. Haven’t had time to set it up yet, still in box. Rtings review looks promising. Will be replacing a C6 in my primary setup and moving the C6 to secondary setup.
It will be nice to have atmos via eARC and 60Hz Dolby Vision, but still sad none of these new models have 3D.
There are no TVs with eARC support on the market (LG will transcode TrueHD with atmos to DD+ with atmos on the fly for ARC though). But 60Hz DV support you do get.
Seems that there are still lip sync issues over ARC from external sources with this model.
The TV’s built in apps and OTA tuner do not seem to have a lip sync problem, but sadly this still limits the utility of Atmos over ARC from external HDMI devices.
Fortunately, there seems to be very little processing delay for HDR/DV compared to previous years, making audio & video fairly in-sync when using a receiver and foregoing ARC for external devices.
Has anyone noticed flickering in grays? I've noticed it in several modes, Game, ISF Expert Dark, etc. and various inputs (HDMI, apps). For example, if I have the settings menu open, I can see flickering in the gray menu but as soon as one of those setting tooltips opens (explaining the setting you're hovering over) the flickering disappears. Almost as if the brightness of the affected area is too low and it's now modulating the brightness.
For reference, every imaginable auto setting is set to off (dynamic contrast, brightness, energy savings mode, etc.).
Is this a side-effect of BFI? If yes, is there any way to disable that?
I just recently picked up the 55" OLED B8 from Target. Anyone else also ordered a B7 but got the B8 instead from Target? I'm keeping the B8 but will I have issues with warranty service if my Target invoice shows a B7 instead of a B8? Other than that I'm loving my first OLED TV!
I'm thinking it can be tricky because the B8s do not show up on Target's website. Maybe I'll ask them first but I'm not returning it! LOL
