If this years TV shootout has been set to the 23rd of September and Robert has said hes currently under NDA I would imagine that he knows that these TV's will be available for this date. I also believe They have gone up for pre order in china with Release around the middle of September so all signs are pointing to these being available anytime in the next month.

Sep. 19 launch, based on the places where date has been announced, the date will vary depending on where you are located.

The tv will come out more expensive than the a8f, at least 1.5x price. A9F is their flagship model replacing the A1E, a8f is not the flagship model.

Whether you should wait or not depends on what you want. If cost is the consideration, get the a8f, if better processing you're after and can pay more, then wait for the a9f reviews to come in. though a9f would be better than the a8f, there will be no generational upgrade, the panel defines most of the tv in an oled, a9f still using the 2018 lg display panel found in the a8f.

I know a couple of guys on an asian board who have pre-ordered in malaysia through sony's official e-store. I want to look at reviews, im not sure if it'll be worth the premium sony demands at launch.

I’m in India and currently, the A1 model is cheaper than the A8F, and seeing how it came out recently, I assumed the A8 was the flagship. There’s no difference between the two apart from the stand, right?

I’m not too concerned about the Android OS as I figured I can use the PS4 Pro for Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon Prime. After the recent patch by Sony, it can accept Dolby Vision from the PS4’s Netflix app, I guess?
And the native Sony Amazon Prime app has HDR, yes?

The only reasons I thought about waiting for the A9F was: better speakers (how much better though, I wonder. I may end up using my Sony HTiB instead), possibly more brightness, better colors.
But if it’s the same panel as the A1, then there won’t be any improvements in these departments? If I understand correctly, the improvement will be from better factory calibration for uniformity, and a new algorithm for picture quality?

I wonder how big of an improvement it will actually be.

Last question: I like how the sound from these Sony models comes from wherever the character is onscreen (left/right/above, etc). If I use the A9F as the center speaker to supplement my HTiB setup, will this cool characteristic carry over?

Oh btw, the A1E and the A1 are the same, right? Just a U.S/Europe naming difference, yes?

For the US, I see there is still no update on pricing and release on the sony site, while sony has announced the same for a couple of asian countries. So that means you still have to wait some more days, will definitely happen by the end of the month.

No new info but this Chinese article has a blue owl on A9F next to A1E. Pixel boost adds a little brighter detail. Not sure how many thousands of dollars that's worth, but it's something to look at.

that's the new pixel contrast booster feature sony has on the a9f which they say helps to improve color brightness. I wonder if it'll be a selectable option like ACE on current sony TV's or will be embedded into the processing. If you turn on ACE during hdr/dv content, there is a little boost to the bright highlights. nice owl lol.

the more colourful owl on the left is the a9f, the right one is a1e.

You can ask it to "watch the local news", "watch the 49ers game" etc. too and it works if you have the right services.

Watched all of Stranger Things, an episode of Lost in Space, half a season of Altered (not Carbon) Fiber and Dolby Vision and never seen a single frame that had anything I would describe as "high gray level". Maybe something wrong with your setup.

Anyway, this is not a Shield vs. Apple TV thread. I am just saying that for potential purchasers of these new Sony sets, the Shield is a highly redundant device paired with them and has little, if anything to offer when used in conjunction.

I bought two simply for GeForce Now. That’s a killer service if you do any pc gaming.

2.1 is not going to happen next year either. you'll live with your a1e at least until '20 if that's what you're after.

Nvidia will be announcing some of the Geforce series in less than 7h https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/ There are rumors that they will feature HDMI 2.1, so let's wait and see if hdmi 2.1 is that really far away.

The motion is better compared to the X850C but its not perfect. They have to fix that issue to make it Z worthy. Also i have quite some backlight clouds when local dimming is off. And since the DV update i also notice it in movies. But i dont have my horizontal banding anymore so that is fixed after the update (it was a dimming issue that caused it with local dimming off the bands where gone).

Recently i found 2x2 Dead pixels and 4 in the center i dont know if they are dead or if its dust or something. The 2x2 are in the top left and right corner so they dont bother me but the 4 in the center i can clearly see if there is a bright color being shown. So im thinking about getting warranty and i hope they dont have a good 940E replacement at Sony NL so i can upgrade to the ZF9 but then it must be on sale first.

When true 8K content comes out in quantity like Discs which I don’t think it will happen or streaming more likely than you will need 2.1 Hdmi. Plus more affordable bigger screen sizes like 80 plus inch. Otherwise a waste cause I won’t hardly any other features and capabilities. These new tvs have e-arc already without 2.1!

Question

I have a question regarding these 2 sets....

I have always purchased Samsung LED's because I like the brightness & pop they give.
My main viewing area is a large room that has outside light coming in @ the rear of the room.
Which one of these sets is better suited for that situation? The local Best Buys do not have the
Z9 on display now, but maybe they will when the new models arrive. They have prominent displays
for the Sony & LG OLED TV's.

I am trying to decide between these Sony's or the Samsung Q9 series.

I do lots of PC gaming but on my PCs (including my HTPC). The streaming is neat and works well but the image quality and input lag hit is certainly there in my opinion. Did try some Destiny 2 at 4K60 in HDR from my office PC to the Shield in the other room the other day and it was cool but I honestly rarely use that feature and felt the added input lag, even on a local host.

Also have been in the GeForce Now beta for a while and always found the concept neat, even back in the early OnLive days, I just prefer everything rendered locally for the best quality and performance.

I agree that local is better but I play MMOs so input lag isn’t as much of a concern. Plus, I spent $180 on a shield and a machine with equal performance would have cost me $1,400. Much easier to justify with the wife especially when my time is so limited to game.

I think it is fine, but it may depend on what you consider a bright room.
