Our Sony is in our sunroom so it’s rarely used during the daytime anyway. But I have watched it on cloudy and sunny days and it still looks good but nowhere near as good as it can look after the sun sets. I will say that apples quality is now reference in terms of picture quality. The difference is palpable. I used to be impressed with Netflix as is but not anymore. Ir you have Apple TV+. You’re in for a treat sir lol

Hey if there was a 4K disc rental plan like Netflix has for 1080p blurays we’d all have been signed up and this would be a moot point right now. You take what you can get and Netflix, Disney and Apple TV+ are the best avenues for original high bitrate Dolby vision content

I sincerely hope the offerings get better. I did look at Apple Plus this morning and there are 13 shows and movies available. Not much of an offering on Amazon Prime either.

I pick up about a movie a month from either Best Buy or Amazon. Amazon currently has a buy 3 for $49.99 offer on select 4K movies. Not the greatest but if there are 3 titles you want it is not a bad deal.

Sony XBR65A9F, Denon X4400H, Sony UBP-X1000ES, Apple TV 4K, Denon DCM-444, Verizon FIOS, Harmony Elite. Dolby ATMOS implemented by Klipsch.

Get an Apple TV 4K with some proper 4K hdmi cables and subscribe to Netflix premium and Apple TV+. Both have a plethora of 4K Dolby vision content.

Currently Apple TV+ has the highest streaming 4K bitrate content available.

Congrats and happy viewing!

Yes AppleTV4k does have higher bit rate and can deliver better quality for iTunes Movies with less compression.

However other Apps such as Netflix/Amazon Prime don’t take advantage of the higher bit rate and if you have good internet speeds will look better directly on Android AF9/AG9 TV APPS.

Agree. The A9G RMF-TX600U is now available from several merchants on Amazon. So much nicer than the one that came with the A9F. Button layout is great and now spaced out. No longer bringing up the wrong menu. Looks and feels premium. Don't use voice, but all the other functions on the old work on the newer remote right out of the box. It's a good inexpensive upgrade to your A9F.

There is no firmware update for the AG9 so far in Europe. I've been lurking the website to compare the two but no luck...

Sony is very SLOW at releasing updates.

Thanks! That would be pretty cool. Looking forward to it...

Thank you for posting the model number of the remote. I've been looking for it for months now. The only thing I didn't like about our remote was how cheap it felt. Is there seriously no way to get the microphone to work with this remote?

I seriously don’t get why you guys would risk blowing up your very expensive tvs to load a firmware that seems only to provide a few aesthetic changes to the interface.

That’s what I figured but those other two guys were discussing 4k nfl on the built in app so I figured I’m missing something cause there’s no 4k on my fox sports built in app.

Yes, for the Thursday night games, I'm not aware of any other games that FOX broadcasts in 4K. I use the FOX Sports app but I suppose the basic FOX TV app will work as well.

NEW OLED Time!

Hey folks - long time member / lurker - you guys are my bed time reading on the regular.

I'm finally investing in a 55" OLED. I'm pretty sure what I really want is the A9G but I think the cheapest it will get on BF in Canada is 2999. I've settled on the A8G as the next best / basically same thing and thinking it will go down to 1999 from a sales guy I spoke with. HOWEVER - they do have some A9F brand new in box at 2499. All 55".

As owners of said A9F tv's - what would you do? Go for it? Lie to your wife and spend beyond your agreed upon $2500 budget? Or go for the modern A8G...I'd really value your input.

My main concern is that movement look natural and glitch as little as possible. I'm a video editor so I'd like to think I have a discerning eye - I'm definitely fussy, but I'm reasonable. Using ATV4K and PLEX for the most part.

I also looked at the Panasonic GZ1000 - but I think i just prefer sony colour. Or color if you're american!

thanks in advance!!

Same panel and electronics on A9G and A9F (bar the screen shaking actuators/speakers which changed on the A9G). So the difference is in the newer functionality the A9G supports (Airplay2). Having said that, there is a view that the A9F can run the A9G firmware, I'm not willing to try that just yet....
So for what it's worth, if you can cope with the lean back stand of the A9F (or can wall mount it), IMHO the A9F is a great option for you.
Dunnie and jrref like this.

Sony XBR-65A9F, Sony UBP-X700, Denon AVR-890 (cooled by AC Infinity AIRCOM T10), Apple TV 4K, HDFury Vertex, B&W 600 series & LM1s in 7.1 config, Harmony Elite
