I have auto-updates turned on and I tried a manual update last night and it said it was up-to-date.

Am I going to the right place? I see the software version in About and to update the software: About > System software update > Software update.

Something weird did happen last night though:
When my son and I left the house around 6pm, we powered off the TV normally. When we got back at around 9pm, it wouldn't respond to either my Harmony remote or its own remote. I checked all the power connections and everything seemed good. It turned on when I pressed the power button on the side of the unit.
Not sure what's going on with your software updates but i'm having that power on problem as well. Have to check if new firmware made any difference.
Update: The .S14 update seems to have fixed the problem on my set.

Wait a minute. Trusted Review measured 900 cd/m2 on the 55”! I thought the A9F wasn’t as bright as the LG? Can the A9 really get that bright and still be accurate?

Are you using an IR blaster or do you have the Harmony Hub connected via the IR In jack on the back of the TV?

Yep I saw it

They didn't say what PM they used or how they measured it but it seems hard to believe for a calibrated PM. Maybe in Vivid PM? And it would be interesting to know what equipment they used.

Merci LorHan, I´m right now on my second Avatar run and hopefully it will get to a point I would be at ease to keep it. I´ll post another picture of the panel by the end of the day.

@jrref : thanks for the tip, I will break it in a little bit more and if it doesn´t improve enough until the 4th day I will give it go as a last resource.

Question: Does ALL OLED panels have banding and a certain non-uniformity across it? (on a higher or lesser degree). I´m not sure how mine is compared to other A9Fs and if it´s worth the risk of exchanging and getting an even worse panel.

I've seen 4 so far and on my set at home I had what I thought was banding but it was actually screen retention. Once I did a clear panel it was fine. That doesn't mean you don't have a bad panel but I've see a couple of panels where screen retention from the factory looks like banding.

Hi All .... new owner ... it arrived today.

Quick question. I can see how you add an installed app to the top "favourites" line, but once added, I cannot see how to remove it. Not remove the app from the tv but simply remove it's listing on the favourites line. Don't see an "options" on the RC.

Can anyone tell me how to please? Thanks

Question that I suspect I already know the answer to - Does the A9F have any way to backup all of the settings (inc. CMS & great scale) to a thumb drive or do I have to write down everything (or take screen shots with a camera)?

I don't have my set yet, but according to the Help Guide on Sony's site, you hold down the + button on the remote and you can move or remove an app from Favorites.

As in Germany I only have 5 days to return/exchange it in case necessary, I would greatly appreciate your input regarding my panel banding and uniformity (I´m not an expert and this is my first OLED). The attached picture was taken after approx. 8h of use with Cinema mode on and no changes whatsoever (Max brightness, Peak luminance= medium).

Watching Marco Polo (S1E3 - 14-16min.) the banding is hardly noticed, but it is visible at some scenes for sure.
Sometimes the bands settle down with use, give your unit some time

Should I call Sony to find out what's going on with my updates?

Is it possible for a MoCA PoE filter to affect that? I wouldn't think so, but it can't hurt to ask.

I'm using the Harmony Hub, but it isn't hooked to the back of the TV (I didn't know I could do that). The Harmony Hub is blasting the TV. Since I already have a Niles IR pickup in that room, I put the Harmony Hub so that it could hit both the TV and the IR pickup (to transmit to the a/v closet where the Niles blasters are).

The a9f wasn't responding to its own remote either though.

I have found that, if I pull the plug on the TV, it won't respond to the Harmony for the first power-on - only its own remote. After that first time, it will respond to the Harmony. I don't know what's up with that. Perhaps it has to do with its own remote is sending 'power toggle' and the Harmony is sending 'power on'. Heck, I don't know - at least I know how to make it work. It looks like that's a 'feature'.

Thanks,

I am probably just getting old, but I cannot see a + sign on the RC except for volume and channels and neither of them does that. Perhaps someone stole my + key.

The guide actually shows a circle with a + sign inside it. Looking at a photo of the A8F remote (I think they are the same), maybe they mean a long press on the select button?

It is definitely getting better, but I´m still on the fence on what to do here since I have only 5 days to try to exchange it.

I read in some threads that the plastic film on the back should be removed. Does it affect image quality or contribute to banding or non-uniformity? I haven´t removed mine.

Took mine this afternoon!

Ready to test!

I'm a little worried of a strange pixel in the middle. It isn't a dead pixel because it's not always black.

I have to test more

Thanks,
Youtube does not have HDR, but it is 4K I believe. I did not see in the Rtings review where they said YT is 1080p only.

Good Morning All, greetings from the UK and thanks for the earlier help Khollister

My 65 AF9 was delivered today but as an ordinary punter who just wanted to replace my ageing but wonderful Pio PDP-428XD-T25B 42-inch KURO all of this technical talk has gone right over my head. All I can say is that the TV is absolutely stunning with a great picture and great sound. Just to reinforce what an innocent I am, I didn't bother going to see one before I ordered it, in fact today was the first time I have seen 4k .... and what an eye-opener (no pun intended) that is. Wifey wasn't really enthusiastic when I said I'd buy this but is now totally in love with it - althoug the size was a shock.

I'm resisting all temptations to attatch anything to it other than my sat receivers and dishes and some Hummy recorders but no games. The sound exceeds my expectations and where as before I've had to use sub-titles to understand what is going on - I haven't needed to today.

It was a great purchase and I hope others enjoy theirs as much as we do ours.

Jeff

Got my a9f today im very happy and it seems my fears have been relived as the dimming is not anywhere near as bad as it was on my a1e this tv is awesome ad IMO a lot better then my C8 i think its just the motion is so dang smooth i have slight banding but nothing that i really notice i tried to take a pic of the 5 percent screen but it keeps coming out to dark also DV is tons brighter then it was on my a1e almost equals my c8 though the lg is still a little brighter overall its my favorite oled yet by a pretty wide margin

Go find a YouTube HDR channel and play one of their vids. See that you get no HDR display logos when played via TV's app.

Then try finding that same video on your phone/tablet and casting it to your A9F. See that it does (we assume, but you can verify) display an HDR logo. Science complete. Share results :-).

Unfortunately when rewatching the yankee game it was a dimming mess it seems since baseball is more static it’s way worse then football so it seems too sweet was right about the dimming also according to the latest ratings update they notice the dimming at around 2 minutes in with my experience that seems to be the case luckily it’s less noticeable but once a replay or commercial hits you can see the brightness pop right back to normal it’s definitly the peak luminance as I see no dimming on medium but it’s just to dim for me i was reading the avforums and I seen someone say Sony should add an option for this setting as now I will more then likely have to return the set and since I can’t stand lgs motion may have to go get and lcd to hold me over even though going from Oled to lcd is a drastic change since that Oled contrast is so dang good but the Asbl sucks sadly it is a beautiful set though
