How is the upscaling on the x1 ultimate? One thing I know that LG C8 has one of the worst upscaling I ever saw on premium TV

There have been a couple of firmware releases in the past week. Make sure you are on .S14.

If so then I would call Sony and let them know what you are seeing while they are making changes.
This is probably a bug.

i too am curious how this is vs. LG's, some comparison pics of sub 1080p content would be awesome, as most cable is still 720p/1080i.

Roku Premium+ 4k / AppleTV 4K 4th Gen

My A9F was delivered this morning. Is the Custom setting the best choice for movie, TV content and streaming while I wait for D-Nice to do the calibration in a few weeks?

Thanks

Lucky you, be sure to run those slides to get it ready for the Master
or watch a lot of content in the next few weeks.

I plan to watch a lot of content and I am going to ask him what if any prep needs to be done before he gets here.

100 hours is the minimum recommended amount of time before calibration to help minimize any shifts post calibration. He may even want you to put a few more hours on it. Might want to find the slides from the plasma days - they've been linked more than a few times on the OLED threads - to help you get hours on your display unless you are ready to do some prolific tv watching. Updates after he visits please, I am hoping he swings south soon, was disappointed when I realized he was in the Atlanta area a few weeks ago, but that would have been too soon since I just acquired my second display last weekend. I know there are some very good calibrators out there, but he's done 2 displays for me and is the best. Look forward to your posts post-calibration. I've got 85 days to switch to a Sony

Just delivered today. Any tips on mounting to a bracket? Is is pretty easy? What size bolts are needed? This thumbnail also has a picture of my stand with the bracket.

While it may have been covered already in this thread (can't seem to search for A1 or A1e), has anyone had the opportunity to do a side-by-side comparison of the A9f against the A1e? Trying to figure out if the extra $1k in price is worth it.

Thanks!

I wrestled with a bit of that myself. The 2 big differences are the Android OS speed and the sound. If you plan to use the internal apps, the OS responsiveness is probably pretty important. If you plan to use the TV sound only, the improved audio may be important.

Besides that, you are paying a premium for some relatively subtle PQ improvements I think - better color volume (especially at high luminance), maybe a bit better near black performance, possible a bit better uniformity due to the newer panel, and a few other even more subtle differences.

It's like high-end audio - you are well past the "knee of the cost curve" unless the speed or sound is a big deal for you. Same as deciding to buy separate prepro and power amp rather than AVR. Is it better? -- yes, but not 2-4X better to most folks.

I ultimately decided I was willing to pay the premium to own the best consumer display that Sony makes currently.

Emotiva XMC-1 (w 4K board) & XPA-5, B&W CM9s2, CM8s2, CMC, Hsu VTF-15, Auralic Aries, Apple TV 4K, Sony 65A9F & Panasonic UB820

Thanks. This will not be our primary set (bedroom) so I am not as concerned about going all-in to have the absolute latest and greatest (I do that drill every 2 years for the main room). The set will replace a 10 year old Kuro so the improvement will be dramatic either way.

That seems like a no-brainer then - score an A1E at closeout prices. Maybe even an LG if you can live with the motion (I can't)

I have it up and running and it looks fantastic though it does seem a bit bright, of course, that could because I've been using a plasma for the past 4 years. It's set to Custom but I haven't changed anything else.

So far, I'm extremely pleased with it!

Yes, I contacted him figuring it would months before he came this way if at all in fact.

I've looked through some of the threads by searching and I see posts referencing the slides but no DL link so far. I've probably already got them in a folder with other calibration plates. We're talking solid color 100% slides, right?

I got some advice from a calibrator on my settings and although I did a quick calibration myself some of the settings I have for a low light room are Peak Luminance - Low, Gamma - -1, Color temperature - Expert 1, Sharpness - 50, Reality Creation - Off, Random noise reduction - Off, Digital noise reduction - Off, Smooth gradation - Low, Motionflow - Custom, Smoothness - 1, Clearness - Low and Clearness -Low.

I hope this helps. When CalMan releases R3 I'll do an autocal and post my full settings.

Thanks, I'm a low light/no light viewer so those settings are much appreciated.

Not that I could find, only listings on business database sites. I would just PM him, if he has a different preference for communication I'm sure he'll let you know.
