If it looks great then why do you want to mess it up with someone else's settings?

Just use Custom picture mode and adjust the brightness and motion to your liking.

There is just not enough stock out there to warrant a drop They are around, but not a land slide......

I see where a respected company has a scratch and dent A9F in inventory. Do you have any thought? Carries full Sony warranty and 60 day return policy.

So I got this tv and wow! I'm very impressed, my only question is with it being my first oled, how concerned should I be when gaming and watching sports. For example I probably watch 1 to 2 baseball games a day during season and they do have static overlays. If I set my brightness to low will it reduce burn in chance? Have the new features significantly reduced burn in chances on our A9F?

So not sure if this question has come up I’ve been using the internal app on the TV for Netflix and it looks incredible I’m wondering if anybody here has connected an Apple TV 4K and is the quality better than the internal TV application?

Are there speed benefits quality because the TV is displaying Dolby Vision on Netflix I’m just wondering if it would be better with an Apple TV I heard it’s a better streamer

Here's what I saw when playing Netflix - Roma @ 2160P

LG 55C8 = 11.44Mbps

Apple TV 4K = 18.82Mbps

The visual difference is not easily perceived, being most obvious during scenes with complex detail, motion and color. Certainly not as large as the difference between streaming and UHD Blu-ray disc.

i think just setting peak luminance to med should be fine as long as you switch up content here and there you should be fine

Does this tv run a minor panel refresh in the background after use like the LGs?

If it is dented that can lead to a warranty not being paid down the road due to physical damage. Otherwise why not as long as it is a substantial discount.....?

The discount was 10% and has a full Sony warranty. I purchased the set yesterday so I guess I can legitimately post in this thread now. Any recommendations for a demo disc?

How does the internal Netflix app output movies? Is it in 24p?

I just decided to compare the bluray version of Casino Royale through my ps4 to the one on Netflix to see if the picture quality was any better (The bluray is noticeably cleaner). But then I noticed the TV flickered more when playing the bluray, which is not surprising since I have BFI on. But then why don't I see the same amount of flicker when playing the movie via Netflix? Does Netflix output the movie at 60hz?

I have no way to prove it as the Display button reveals next to nothing as far as framerate info but I believe virtually all embedded apps in displays output a 60Hz signal to the display's processing engine. The only way to get anything other than a 60Hz signal is from an outboard device such as an Apple TV 4K for example.

Strange that the TV apps only output 60Hz and I'm surprised I haven't heard about this issue before. I would think people want to watch movies without 3:2 pulldown on these high end displays.

I also just tried the Netflix app on the ps4 and it also seems to output at 60 Hz, even with the 1080p/24hz box checked in the system menu. I guess that only applies to bluray playback and not streaming apps.

I think part of the reason might be a support issue; send everything at 60Hz as that's a frequency all displays can use.

Several outboard devices will output native framerate. The Apple TV 4K will output Netflix at 60Hz/50Hz/24Hz and even 50i(I'll need to doublecheck that one, it might be my OPPO I'm thinking of). The Roku Ultra can do 24Hz as well, in fact, it's the only streaming device I have that will output 24Hz from the HBO Go app. The Amazon Fire TV and the Apple TV 4K only output 60Hz for that app.

I have a cable connectivity question. I plan on mounting the TV in a corner using a corner wall mount. Thinking towards the future if I connect a Toslink, HDMI and a USB cable but not put them in use, connect them to another device, will this cause issues with the A9F? I am trying not to have to fish the wall in the future if I need one of these cables.

Sony XBR65A9F, Denon X4400H, Sony UBP-X1000ES, Apple TV 4K, Denon DCM-444, Verizon FIOS, Harmony Elite. Dolby ATMOS implemented by Klipsch.

No it won’t cause any issues with the A9F. This is a great idea, so go ahead with it. But personally I’d pull at least two HDMI cables. I did what you’re considering and now regret not having an extra HDMI pulled back to my cabinet. Also, pull some coax - regret not doing that too once I “cut the cord” and put up an rooftop antenna to get local channels.

I'm just wondering how relistic is letterbox burn in with this sets. I love the A9f I got as it as great uniformity and I just love Sony's motion plus this set as compared to the a1e exhibits no dimming. I normally leave peak luminance to med never high but I find myself almost being to careful as I'm a huge sports fan but try not to watch to many games in a row on the a9f as I fear burn in same goes for movies I limit them serverly as due to the burn in fear. How realistic is burn in and am I going to over the top with worry

I watch my tv like a normal person and from what I hear the tv has built mechanisms to prevent burn in. Now as far as what I call normal viewing habits, I’m mixed usage but not a lot of news and baseball when it comes back on but not a ton of games.
Tv shows whether on broadcast or streaming and movies too I don’t have cable no more I cut the cord. No gaming either
I think it’s takes a lot for burn in and abuse also like watching something static for hrs and hrs day in and day out every day. That’s what I consider abuse.
Also like a normal person who works all day
I watch tv maybe 3-4 hrs at most in the evening and I would do my heavy tv watching on weekends or days off which would be binge watching a tv show or a few UHD movie streaming or disc.
I think those who are scared of burn in are being very paranoid and unless you abuse your tv with static images you should be fine. I don’t go outta my way not to watch something or babysit the tv for fear of burn in!

TY

I was going to pull in a second HDMI cable and use it to connect the Sony UBP-X1000ES video output and run the audio output to a Denon X4400H.

The A9F should be here today and I will connect it up. If a HDMI cable I brought from Crutchfield works I will buy a second one from Crutchfield and reserve it for future use. I nave enough Crutchfield reward money to cover the purchase.

If everything goes according to my plan I should be finished with the living room makeover by Sunday the 10th of March. The new furniture may not be delivered by then and I am ok with that.

I would consider myself as having normal viewing habits yet I ended up having burn-ins from my OLED's internal apps....
