LG's support (even signature support) is so bad, I likely won't be buying another LG TV. I've had terrible exchanges with them in the past.

I cannot believe this crap is still going on.
I was wanting to get a 77" when prices dropped.
Now prices falling and I'm looking at the possibility of getting one of these noise makers and LG leaving me hanging with it.

REALLY SUCKS!

I have a C8 77" being delivered this week. I will report the build date and if mine has this issue. If it does I will be returning it and go with something else.

Hear for it in dark scenes or when screen saver is on.

What do you mean the manual says it’s normal? Where does it say anything about it?

Loud Hiss of Death Fixed on my OLED77C8

My New OLED77C8 had the dreaded Loud Hiss of Death! The sound could be heard from across the room and totally ruined the TV. As others expressed, the hiss was content dependent but became louder with black or near black content and also louder the longer the TV was on - becoming completely unwatchable/unlistenable very quickly (internal speakers off, using sound bar or 5.2.4 surround sound system).

Good News is that LG Service came out today and replaced the power supply and motherboard in about 30 minutes and that totally solved the problem. The 77C8" is now as dead silent as my OLED65C8 always is - irrespective of the content.

Understand that changing the power supply and motherboard hasn't helped everyone but wanted to give a status update that it did resolve the issue here and the LG Tech said it was the worst he'd ever heard- so there is some hope.

Do not let anyone tell you the loud hissing noise is normal, you are not crazy, this is a issue with this TV and once it's fixed - it's like day and night.

That’s great news. I still want to wait a bit in the hopes that the success rate and knowledge surrounding the problem increases.
I also would have no problem with receiving a c9 as replacement, no sir! 🙂

Angry Lg refuses to replace panel, even though in home lg tech tells them it is defective!!

LG REFUSES TO REPLACE PANEL, EVEN THOUGH IN HOME LG TECH TELLS THEM IT IS DEFECTIVE!!!

I had my 8th at home service call by an official LG service technician. They stated that the can see the vertical banding on the TV, during gray testing and actual content. Then they call LG Technical Support and tell them that the panel is defective with obvious vertical banding. LG TECHNICAL SUPPORT THEN TELLS THEM THAT THEY WILL NOT BE REPLACING THE PANEL BECAUSE IT IS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF OLED TV's!!!

WHAT HAPPENED TO "PERFECT" BLACKS? WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BEST PICTURE QUALITY???

PS... This is the same original panel they had already deemed defective months ago and tried to replace once with a more defective panel.... not sure what changed, other than the fact that they DO NOT stand behind there product...

OMG it's almost like you won the lottery.
I've only heard of one other time LG fixed this problem.
Sadly seems to be a lot of others stuck with 77" lemons LG refuses to do anything about.

You are truly fortunate.

Dark screen? Don’t forget the noise is dependant on the screen being dark.

I'll test it out more once it's hung. I know the screen was black when first starting up with the WebOS logo then the blue start up screen

The power supply I have now in my tv is silent until the tv is on for 30-45 mins then it makes some sound. So might be worth letting the tv run for a hour then put on a dark scene. The screen saver screen can show the sound as well.

So I have 3 weeks left of lg warranty and another 4 years of extended. I already had my power supply changed once. It’s much better then my first one and only will make sound and the darkest of scenes. It’s probably been 2 months since I’ve opened the tv and installed insulation around the problem area and have not heard anything since. Do you guys think it’s worth one more go to get lg to try and fix it? I’ll have to open tv back up and remove what I did(not a big deal). I talked to lg three months ago talked to a manager sent in videos then waited for call back and nothing. I also called them three times said I was waiting for a reply and still never got a call.

I would say go for another PSU on the proviso that if the new one is worse, that you can keep your current one.

WTF, the fact that you expect the problem may get even worse after LG "fixes it" says too much about LG for me to be comfortable with LG in the future, it really sucks for anyone buying a high end TV to have to put up with.

I know I'm late in my feedback (just got back from an excellent snowboarding trip) but I completely agree with SB, as once the issue is fixed it makes the tv so much more enjoyable and worth the effort.

For me, I found the best way to test for the issue/repair is to pause an internal streaming app and let the tv's screensaver run for 30 minutes (fireworks) - as the constant on-screen black and near blacks are a great trigger if you have the issue (make sure the sound is muted) and if you don't hear anything then you're golden.

Is the hissing sound a problem only from day one of owning the TV or is it something that will eventually happen with theses sets over time?
