If it’s anything like a hissing power supply from a computer or computer gpu is usually gets better over time not worst.

Not that I’m aware of but read this whole topic and see if anyone has said anything similar.

Thanks. I've read this whole topic and searched elsewhere. Just wanted to make sure before I pull the plug on a new LG OLED 77.

I meant there’s more chance of it getting better then getting worst, if it’s anything like other components that get coil whine. Majority end up staying around the same though.

Yep, indeed, mine is still the same. Would love to know if the C9 will do the same thing.

New owner of a 77C8 and I also have the hissing. Mine is quite loude and is very audible from mail listening position. Purchased in Minnesota USA. I can still return the set but I got this at a crazy deal....not sure what to do.

I finally decided to call LG about a week or so ago about my buzz. It wasn't horrible at all but it was noticable to me. They finally swapped it (PS) out today and I don't hear it at all anymore. If your TV is under warranty I suggest you get it done.

I am still in the return/exchange window with my store...would you recommend swapping sets or having LG out to fix it?

If you’ve got a screen with good uniformity then I would get them to replace the power supply. You don’t want to start going down the panel lottery route.

If your panel looks good and the only issue you have is the buzz, I wouldn't take the risk of getting a panel that is worse. I would contact LG if that's the case and try a new PS, otherwise get a new tv if you're not happy with say banding and buzzing.

What would you recommend using to confirm no banding issues? I have looked at 5% gray on YouTube but not sure if that’s correct?

You probably have a decent panel if you're not sure....the vertical bands should be clearly visible in low light content. 5% gray should show it clearly if it's there. Even from a YouTube source.

Just set up my new 77C8 and has been running for few hours. Either my hearing is gone or the power supply is quiet. No buzz , hum, or hiss when showing near-black images. The set was manufactured in Feb 2019. I wonder if they finally fixed the problem in the assembly line at some point. Or I just lucked out.

I hope you got lucky! I notice it much more when playing hdr content like Netflix Dolby Vision. It’s also worse when the set is warmed up.

Similar situation here. Just got my 77 yesterday, and no hiss, buzz, or humming as far as I can tell. Manufacture date of Jan. 2019.

USA. I was kicking around the idea of just waiting until this time next year for the 77C9 (wouldn't be surprised if it was sub-$3500), but I'm glad I went ahead and bought the C8 anyway. This thing is incredible.

Thought I’d give a bit of a update. Lg has totally ignored me over the last four months. I called them 6 times with each time them saying they will call me back with a resolution and I get no call back. The last time I called I told them how many times they have told me they will call me back and that my warranty is almost up and what do you know no call back and now my warranty is up. I’m not sweating it to much as my psu was not loud and rarely made the sound. I’ve had my “fix” in place now for 3-4 months so I have not heard a peep since. I still have 4 years of extended warranty to fall back on too.

If your law is anything like ours in the UK, as you raised this issue with LG within your initial warranty, the fact that that said warranty will expire soon is irrelevant. You could be 20 years out of warranty and your initial claim still holds. Hope that makes sense

I am curious if your TV is connected to a UPS. If so, pure sine wave or modified sine wave model. Thanks.

FYI - I got mine a few weeks ago and haven't heard any issues. Was manufactured in march. If anyone is in the market, Greentoe has them for $3999 right now. Sick deal!

I exchanged my previous 77 C8 for a new one due to a poor panel and I no longer have the hissing and the panel appears to be better!

I figured out my buzzing today on my 77. I was having ground loop issues after flipping around my room. I decided to turn off the display on my Sony 5000ES receiver and suddenly all the buzzing went away. Way better life now

I thought I had a dying unit, now I learn many people experience this issue.

The most advanced TV in the world has a hissing power supply, something we couldn't even considerate.

I have 65C9 that has some pretty annoying power supply noise. I’m not sure if it’s the same noise you all are hearing. Especially noticeable during HDR gaming there is a high frequency erratic hissing noise. Almost sounds like a noisy processor but it’s coming from the power supply board side of the tv. No noise during static images just during scene cuts and fast moving scenes. I’m within my 90 days at Costco so I could return it, just a huge pain especially if this is considered normal and the new one has the same issue. I went to Costco to try and listen for the noise on the display but there was too much ambient noise to hear it. I have heard almost nothing about C9s having this issue so maybe I just got unlucky
