After about 20 minutes, the Shield Pro would go to sleep and send a signal to the tv to shut off. When I turned the tv back on it was reset to the Shield as input, so it would wake the Shield and start the process over again.

If you have a Shield, go into its Settings > Display & Sound > Power Control CEC, then disable "Turn off TV when Shield sleeps". I also turned off "Wake Shield when TV powers on", since I really don't need the Shield to wake up ever time I use the tv, I just use the Shield remote to wake it up now.

Wow! Thank you so much! My Shield TV was the culprit!

I have a 940E and am looking to maybe go OLED. Do you think the C9 is that much better as there is a significant price difference?

^yes, when it comes to any LCD I will always recommend an Oled, even over the 940e or Z9D. However I will say this, if you dont need HDMI 2.1 you can always get the 77C8, or wait for the inevitable price drop.

Is there now a consensus on whether 77C9 power supply buzzes or not? I mean is it something that always happens or most sets don’t buzz?

LG E9 - connect soundbar to receiver?

Hi,

Debating between LG C9 and E9. I am limited on space where I'll be placing the TV (65"), and am wondering if I can use the soundbar build into the E9 as the front L/R and center channel connected to my receiver.

No, only the Sony does that.

From what I see this year and last for that matter most sets do not buzz......

1. Panning scenes are annoying, but put dejudder to 4 (or 10, or smooth) and it's fine.

2. I wish there was a way to get to specific settings with a single click on the remote. OLED light especially.

3. A question: does anyone know why my google assistant key only works 1 time out of 5..? (I do keep it pressed).

It's strange to me that some owners ask for more brightness.. I go temporarily blind every time HDR kicks in and oled light jumps to 100..

Honestly I don't find judder to be an issue on panning shots. I'm using a HTPC with MadVR and within it, there's an option called "Smooth Motion" - which btw is NOT interpolation. Basically makes judder on panning shots a non-issue.

Thanks for this. I'm building a new gaming/htpc and one of things i wanted to see is if there's a nice media player that can do the difficult stuff on the pc and allow the C9 to show the picture. Any tips on this, are very welcome. I'll check MadVr out.

Also wondering, how else can smooth motion be achieved without frame interpolation?

From the wiki:
"Smooth Motion is designed to display content where the source framerate does not match up to any of the refresh rates that your display supports. For example, that would be 25/50fps content on a 60Hz-only display, or 24p content on a 60Hz-only display."

I don't believe this will have any effect on panning stutter.

Anyone else had service done yet? Anything to watch out for? How does the back come off? Seems like you have to remove the stand and they told me that I must dismount it from the wall. How do they get the back off without being able to use the stand? They just lay it face down on the floor? Seems like you could damage the screen trying to pick it back up. Some handles would have been nice. hope they are sending two techs as there is now way to safely move it around with just one person?

I’m also guessing they don’t come with parts? So they will have to come again during another full business day window with the part a week or two later.

Smooth Motion is a frame blending algorithm of some type. I think it looks OK in some cases, but I also find there's quite a bit more blur in general. I prefer LG's DeJudder at 1 or 2, or Sony's Motionflow on Minimum or 1.

Any consensus on the back protection film removal?

LG says it some kind of experimental radiant heat insulation that will melt the TV if not removed.

They called yesterday with an appointment for between 8-5 on Monday. They sent an SMS text with a reminder but the time is shown as “promiseZoneName” and a link for up to date status that don’t work.

The LG account info shows the service request with the status of “Cancel”. Hmm… ???

Brightness at the high end is perfectly fine and more than I need to be honest with you. What needs to be improved is near black details.

Some things about image processing could really be better. I'm with you on motion handling. I haven't gotten used to it yet. I had a 1 on de-judder, but recently took it up to 4 or 5. Also, I've noticed that 1080p stuff (blurays look ok, but everything else that is a bit lower bitrate) often has problems in solid colors, like macro blocking and banding here and there. I often wonder how my 10 year old Samsung LED DLP set had better motion capabilities? We've had 10 years of image processing to go through. I also wonder why this isn't talked about more here. After all, 1080p is 75% of what we still watch.

Oh, hopefully LG fixes is sound issues via firmware. There are a couple that are not excusable. (LPCM eARC out only 2 channels, and sound sync issues)

HDR gaming is fantastic though. Same with 4k UHD disks.

If I hadn't seen this post I would likely have never even noticed the film on the back of my 65 C9. There were no stickers of any sort on the back other than the film itself.

Is there any setting that I could have possibly hit to not make the C9 Netflix app automatically switch to Dolby Vision HDR mode when a show like Planet Earth II starts? It stayed in SDR mode for me tonight. Would it have been something I accidentally did, like apply to all inputs or something (even though it is technically not using an input)?

Planet Earth II isnt available in Dolby Vision and is only listed as Ultra HD 4k in the details which isn’t HDR either

Try Our Planet which is available in Dolby Vision

That article is from 2017. Does that apply to the C9? I tried looking for a film on the back when I mounted mine. The front film was easy to see and remove. It was even labeled

I saw an attached plastic film on the back of my 65C9 and I removed it before installation. It peeled very easily from the corners to remove. Based on the previously referenced article, I would ensure it was removed to avoid any potential damage to the panel.

The extra bit of motion blur is needed to like you said - blend frames in low framerate content = movies.

This lowers the perception of judder.
