I am not able to see any kind ovular banding
while being connected to a PS4 PRO. Of course I am in game mode.
Increasing the brightness slider to a higher value still makes no difference in this regards.

You’ll notice there is some weird spherical banding that occurs. It’s very strange. Here is a photo of what it looks like: https://i.imgur.com/5gsSXBk.jpg

I notice these “spheres” in regular content at 50 brightness, so it’s definitely something that’s an anomaly and degrading the picture quality. It’s also hard NOT to notice once you’ve seen it. The strange thing is that it only shows up in the Game preset. Switching to ISF Bright or any other preset makes the weird spheres go away.
Can anyone confirm they see it too? Like I said, upping the brightness to 57 makes it very easy to see on an all black screen. And it seems to be isolated to use with an XB1 on the GAME preset.

Please try this and let me know if your tv is affected. Thank you!
It happens on the C8 as well. I have an X connected to a C9 & a C8

I see it in both if I use game mode. With the C9 & its option for ALLM, I set my isf modes and use those when I game on my X. Get the best mode for movies / tv and when I turn on my games systems, it goes into ALLM and gives me the lowest input lag.

I have game mode for my PS4 Pro and switch.
The oval shows for both PS4 Pro and switch...

I'm pretty sure I saw it on my C6 as well. I still have the C6 so I will check when I have a chance.

It won't be pleasant.
The c9 also looks smaller than it really is, because of the very small bezel.
I love my c9, but i moved from a 65inch plasma to the 77inch c9, and I'm barely happy with the size!

In this particular case, because this wont be the 'main' viewing area and because of the architecture of the house, sitting flush is probably a pre-requisite as anything else would ruin the look. It can protrude to some degree, of course, but I want as close to the wall as possible.
That setup looks sweet

Yes indeed, a old plasma can look huge, not to mention the older the plasma the bigger the bezel.

Thanks for your replies guys. Good to know that it’s not just my set. I used to have a C7 and never noticed any ovals on it. On my C9 I noticed right away.

Quick question about ALLM. Has anyone ever compared the actual input latency compared to Game Mode? I know ALLM has low input delay but is it as quick as Game Mode? I’m wondering if there’s a difference between the two. The reason I ask is because when you swap between Game and any other preset, the screen goes black for a split second as if doing some sort of change in video processing, which could cause a slightly higher delay.
Thanks again for all the replies!

There is no difference. When the tv goes into ALLM, it goes into exactly what game mode is, it just preserves the preset you were using for your normal viewing.

I set my preset to the settings I want, then adjust my in game video settings to what I like, that way my movie and tv viewing experience is untouched.

I think I’m gonna get it. If I’m not a fan of the size difference, I will put it in my media room in the basement. Being an employee at a large electronics store, I’m sure I’ll get accommodations for larger size LEDs or maybe the 77” C9 later.

Does anyone here know if were are allowed to disable these annyoing notifications that pop up
if you start another HDMI device or if you plug in your headphones?

I could not find any option for that in the setting of the C9. I alredy tried to disable Simeplelink.
This will indeed remove the notification in the top right corner. But with Simplelink disabled you get an
even bigger notification in the middle of the screen...

Not sure. Might be something in the service menu or in-start menu.

Lol... same here. We moved from a 65 inch plasma to a 77c9. We keep joking that we're going to measure to ensure they didn't pack a 65 inside of the 77 box. Our viewing distance from screen to eyes is 7 ft. No doubt we could sit closer, but it would compromise our sound quality.

AVS forum,

I'm stuck with this dilemma. I just recently purchased an opened box 55' C9 at Bestbuy. The TV is literally perfect as it was returned brand new (Still w/plastic film on screen, unopened remote etc.) but was marked as satisfactory by bestbuy. Don't know why that was to be honest.

Anyhow, I was originally looking for a "65" model and just so happen to stumble upon the "55" at the reduced price. Do you all think that the price of the 65inch would go lower within the next few months. I'm really at a tough spot right now and don't know if i should keep the 55 inch or wait for the 65 inch to drop in price. I still have 2 weeks to decide before I can return the set I have. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated :-)

Thanks!

I guess it depends on how big the actual room itself is. My 65 inch C9 is in a relatively small room so it looks huge to me. I almost went with the 55 inch, and I’m so glad I didn’t.

Can anyone tell me, or point me towards some place I could find out, the distance of the bottom of the screen to the first VESA hole in the back on a C9 55”? I’m trying to figure out exactly where I’ll need to place my wall mount before I actually buy the TV and I can’t seem to find that info anywhere. I know it’s not right in the center of the back, though, so I figured I’d ask.

From flatspanelhd’s review of the c9:

“Another new feature this year is the option to turn on game mode with any picture mode in the TV, which means that you can now select either 'Game' picture mode (which is not very picture accurate) or you can chose to flip on a game switch when the TV is running in other picture modes. This will produce the same low input lag. This is very useful, if you do not have access to calibration equipment, which we assume that 99.99% of our readers do not have, but still want accurate picture quality in gaming.”

Can any owner of the c9 confirm there is indeed such an option? This is not ALLM but a switch to enable low input lag for any picture mode. This may have some values for people like me who don’t have access to pro calibration.

Can any owner of the c9 confirm there is indeed such an option? This is not ALLM but a switch to enable low input lag for any picture mode. This may have some values for people like me who don’t have access to pro calibration.
What you posted is ALLM. There is no actual "switch"

When you set ALLM on with a compatible game console or PC, the PC or console will activate the game mode settings on any preset you have selected.

The only console that is compatible at this time is the Xbox One S & X

Hmm i thought ALLM is about the tv switching to game picture mode automatically, not activating game mode features i.e. low input lag in any picture mode.

Does pc support allm at the moment, or only xbox one?

Allm is the ability for the tv to recognize a compatible console or pc video card and turning off all unnecessary processing to get the lowest input lag possible with any preset you are using.

One the console or graphics card tells the tv a game is starting, the tv turns any preset into game mode without anything changing the actual preset to the game mode preset.

I could not find any option for that in the setting of the C9. I alredy tried to disable Simeplelink.
This will indeed remove the notification in the top right corner. But with Simplelink disabled you get an
even bigger notification in the middle of the screen...
I disabled HDMI-CEC on any devices connecting to the TV (ATV, Nvidia Shield). I use universal remote to control devices. I only enable HDMI-CED on the TV and Denon receiver so that the tv can turn off the receiver when I put the tv in sleep timer.

Anyone know how to disable a giant notification popup when sleep timer is within 1 min? LG software is terrible with so many disruptive notifications. Not only they are disruptive but can potentially cause burn-in.

I noticed that on the C9, dynamic contrast is greyed out when using PC input and HDR game mode. I seemed to remember that it worked on my C7.

I see inconsistency when enabling dynamic tone mapping in HDR, so I am leaving that off.

Input lag on console input / HDR game mode is the same as PC input / HDR game mode at 4K correct? I just want to have the option to enable dynamic contrast in HDR mode in game mode if I need to

This is bright level of my room. You all think the C9 65in will be fine? I can close the curtains as well.

I know it’s not right in the center of the back, though, so I figured I’d ask.
I actually just went through this exercise with a Mounting Dream MD2298 mount with the 55" C9. Of course, you have quite a bit of adjustability with the two vertical bars attached to the TV (1" increments), but I measured the vertical distance from bottom bezel to the VESA center as 11". The VESA being 300 x 200. So distance from bottom to first VESA hole would be 7.06". Center of TV is 13-3/4" to bottom. The mount really was a dream!

I love my 65" OLED in my dark den but I'd go for a 75" FALD LCD in that environment.
