Buy a cheap antenna, tune in an ota channel and then just hide the antenna behind the TV

To take advantage of VRR etc right now with the C9 and Xbox One X - the HDMI that came with the Xbox is good enough?

I have multiple X's .. I posted this for the people.

I game on PC but no where as much as console.

I wish there PS4 pro took advantage of these features too , I might use it more.

As for my cables, I always used all mono-price HDMI with the latest specs. I just updated them to cover 2.1 soecs. Don't know how the Xbox one is, haven't used it, still in the box

That varies a little from TV to TV. If you stick to the ISF Dark mode default OLED light, it will have you in that ballpark.

I've found most sets will be in the 25-27 range post-calibration for 100 nits.

So I set my tv up last night and it appears to be leaning back slightly in the stand. The tv is able to move in the stand to a 90 degree angle, but if i'm not holding it goes and leans back... Do I need to tighten the screws on the stand? Should it be able to even move in the stand like that?

How can you choose the timing of how long before the screen saver comes on? Can you only choose the ones from "gallery"? They're all gorgeous but very bright for our bedroom (its like the sun is in there lol).

Mine is set to 24 to get to 100 nits post calibration.

Technicolour is designed to be 100 nits at OLED Light=25. But 100 nits is too dark for me even in a fully black room.

Other than that, ballpark figures from my C8 similar for ref:
Pre-cal SDR Cinema gamma 2.4:
OLED light=25, gave me 101.2 nits (post-cal, 91.8)
30, 114.7 nits (103.4)
33, 120.0 nits (108.3)
38, 131.8 nits (121.5)
42, 142.3 nits (125.3)
50, 164.3 nits

HTH
ps. After calibration the same value of OLED Light is dimmer than before, partly because correcting the greyscale normally makes it a bit "warmer" -> less blue -> dimmer. I'll add the "post-cal" figures in brackets.

Well certainly the specs say north american models are 120V. The sticker on the back says 120V. Other models says 100-240V on the sticker and in the specs.

So maybe the power supply is able to run 100-240V, but it wasn't certified for it, or because of the tiny plug on north american models it may be considered unsafe to run it at 240V. So it might or might not work, and if it turns out some do and some don't and you get one that doesn't LG certainly won't talk to you about warranty on the power supply.

Potential C9 owner - unnecessary worry?

I'm interested in an LG C9 but worry a little that its too fragile. I've had two electronic store sales people, and have read some posts online, that warn on mishandling an OLED like the C9. They mention stories of some owners damaging their panel by putting too much pressure on the screen while moving/mounting/removing from box. Is this an overblown fact of OLED screens like the C9?

Note, I'm very careful with all of my equipment (retired IT admin/manager) but I do have grand kids that visit - I don't want to overly worry about someone touching/bumping the TV.

Thanks to anyone who can help put my mind at ease, or an opinion I may not want to hear.

As a complete noob with this stuff should i just follow the RTings settings and i'm good to go? With my Sony A1E i leave it on Cinema Pro....what's best practice for the C9?

I can't wait to set it up later and compare her to my Sony OLED. I want to thank my wife for being a badass and saying "yes, whatever" to make the purchase for a gaming TV in the bedroom.

Usage will be 70% Netflix/Prime TV shows (not movies) and 30% Xbox One X gaming. Thanks for any tips/hints. I'm starting to read this owners thread...on page 2 of 306 (not sure how much i will get done today).
Just curious, what made you decide to dump the TCL? Thought you loved the picture quality and thought it was equal to your Sony OLED? Was it just because you got the approval to get another OLED?

Keep in mind the added burn in risk from gaming on an OLED vs the TCL ( I will probably get flamed for this )

You can fiddle with that, loosen up the bolts, hold it forward, tighten down, there is a little slop in there. You could put something beneath the stand on the back side to straighten it out as well.

Hell I wall mounted the 65" C9 myself, and I was very rough with it(putting pressure on the screen itself with hands/fingers) and it survived the ordeal just fine. I have worked mounting digital menu boards, some quite heavy as well, so I wouldn't advise this to just anyone lol

They are still working out some bugs. If you press Play it should resume where you left off. At first there were separate buttons for Resume and Play From Beginning. But those have disappeared for now.

It works fine here. I clicked on the app for the first time ever, this morning. It immediately downloaded an update, that took all of 5 seconds. I entered my username & password and it then took me to the home screen. I tried a few 4K & DV titles and they looked great. As mentioned, the audio is stereo.

Try using the arrows to navigate, not the pointer. If that won't work, try deleting the App and downloading it again.

From what I am hearing, the audio upgrades to the app are 2-3 releases away. This from a business contact at Disney. But, don't take that as gospel. I cannot imagine that it would not happen, though.

I run the OLED light at 39 in ISF Dark mode (post cal). Levels below that are much too dark for me, too.

Then again, I don't watch this thing in a black hole room. There is always some ambient light. It's not like in our dedicated HT room, where we go to watch films. This TV is in our family room.

Got approval for the OLED! The C9 is night and day compared to the TCL, my god the blacks...i haven't used it much but holy cow!
I thought the TCL was great due to being in the bedroom and my old TV was a crap Dynex. Now that i have the C9 in the bedroom, its laughable at the difference..not even remotely close. I think i was a little nuts saying the TCL was comparable to my A1E. Again i think its because it was just so bright, not necessarily color.

Thank god i made a switch. Yes the C9 was the cost of 3 TCL's though...but worth every penny. I'm soooo happy.

I only used the TCL one night and for one show and i thought it was fantastic (Netflix Living with Yourself). I turned it on the next day and the white looked grey...it really didn't look good...its just really bright.

I have the burn in warranty from Best Buy. I keep my Sony A1E on all the time - video game screens for hours etc. No burn in and have had it for 2 years.

The color banding/posterization is absolutely atrocious on this TV. Last thing I'll do is call LG about this and if it is indeed inherent with their OLEDs, I will sell it as soon as I can. My disappointment is almost palpable... this set is great in every other way...
I’ve noticed lots of colour banding too, specifically with XB1X. It’s definitely annoying and disappointing because I expected much cleaner gradients as well.

Interestingly, I’ve never noticed any issues with the internal apps. This makes me believe that there is an issue with the HDMI implementation.

Something I also noticed before is something I could only describe as “ovular banding” (https://i.imgur.com/5gsSXBk.jpg) which only showed up when using a device over HDMI and never while using the TV natively. More on that here: https://www.rtings.com/tv/discussion...me-mode-oddity

I wonder if this is somehow related and caused by this first-of-its-kind HDMI 2.1 implementation.

I wish we could get an expert opinion on all of this.

The oval shape is a well known thing on the 2018 and 2019 model threads here. So definitely nothing to do with HDMI2.1 which we 2018 owners don't have
  • You'll only see it in Game Mode, and
  • only from the X Box... ,
  • no other device's HDMI video output has this problem.

(That's a summary from my memory, happy to be corrected)

Anyone having banding and screen tearing issues with Xbox one X and rocket league?

All of my other games look and play great. All check boxes green, 4:2:2 off (default). Tried vsync off and on no real difference. When I drive over boost the screen almost ... flickers? And I get a lot of horizontal tearing while driving around. I also had a heck of a time with contrast in this game. It was SUPER dark and my avatar looked orange (normally a skin tone). I had to drop in game HDR contrast to 1.40 (was at 2.2).

My 55 C9 does not have this issue at all. The 65" C9 my friend is using does not have this issue either (same setup as me)
The setup I am using:
- German version of the LG C9 55"
- PS4 PRO (directly connected to the TV)
- PS4 PRO => RGB (Auto); But it will use Full RGB because my C9 is setup this way while being in Game Mode
- C9: Gaming Profile (No PC Mode)

Increasing the Brightness (not OLED Light) as suggested does not change anything except everything becomes grey (Of course I used a black image).
But no sign of ovular banding that you are describing.

I really liked the Sony. IMO opinion, the picture looked cleaner. Was going to just hold off until next year's model coming out, but the price on the C9 dropped to $1500 so I jumped on it.
Why not try another A9G?

I never use TV apps, was Roku for years then went Shield almost 3 years ago. I added ATV4K earlier this year, but now with Shield Pro that is my go to device unless I have something only on iTunes.
