Hmm. Getting back to practicalities of what is in use, DTS-HD has both lossy and lossless formats, and they are both called "HD audio". In fact, their lossy format has both the HD and HR terms in its name! "DTS-HD High Resolution Audio". Problem is without a full recognised International standard, and someone persuading both Dolby and DTS to change the name of their flagship products, it's only going to confuse consumers. So I personally go with the de facto meaning of "HD" not implying lossless and I would use the term "HD lossless" if it's got to be lossless. HTH

With HGIG the console takes full ownership of the tone mapping, and ideally the TV does a "hard clip" and does not tone-map any more than it has to.

You must do two things.
  • Use the console's central HGIG setup screen, not the one in the game. If there's one in the game then that means it's not using HGIG yet.
  • Set the TV to Picture mode "Game", wait for HDR10 to kick in, then change Dynamic Tone-mapping to "HGIG" instead of on/off. This sets the TV to hard-clip.

Thanks MtTickle, useful as always.

As far as I know Xbox doesn't have a HGIG setup screen yet so I think I'll stick with DTM for now.

So Modern Warfare doesn’t support HGIG? I was under the assumption that new games supported HGIG.

Probably a question for a gaming thread. But in general, HGIG is for the future not the present. I think only 1 game supports it so far. But try the gaming threads.

Yes this is exactly what I'm curious about myself, if custom resolutions below 18Gbps can get over 60hz and have Gsync still work.

It is a question to a guy who implemented color pipeline of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. I mean that guy https://twitter.com/P_Malin, so I asked him a question.

Honestly. I wouldn't sweat 4K GSync at 120Hz. I have it running at 60HZ and it's just as smooth as my 4K 144Hz monitor.
GSync just makes it so, awesome upgrade.

That game has an amazing implementation of HDR. Worth checking out if you want to see HDR gaming done right.

I can confirm Disney + works. Watched 2 episodes of the Mandalorian in DV with no issues. Someone else will have to chime in about YTTV.

I got an update yesterday and had high hopes but Disney plus is still stereo only.

I’m really confused. My XB1X won’t pass HDMI bitstream audio (to my AVR) when plugged into HDMI port 1 but it will work when I plug it into port 3. I thought it was a cable issue but could have a have defective HDMI input or am I missing an option??

Are you sure you're getting Dolby surround I and many others only get stereo. Your receiver or audio device may be converting that to surround as mine does but the input is stereo only to the receiver. All other apps work fine with normal Dolby surround and Atmos.

I remember seeing a bitstream/pcm option for each port somewhere in the menus. Maybe that could be your issue.

Do you have your Xbox connected directly to C9? I think there was similar issue discussed in this thread (or maybe C8). The problem was present only when PS4/Xbox was connected through some A/V receiver.

Could anyone with experience and knowledge provide insights on the differences between the :

LG OLED77C9PUA https://www.rakuten.com/shop/ielectr...uct/ukx4riwqp/

vs LG OLEDC9PUB
https://www.greentoe.com/product/LG_...0000004uSdAIAU

Are these exact models, or does the PUA and PUB at the end mean something?

I’m going to go forward and purchase from one of the above vendors and wanted to confirm any differences in order to make an informed purchase.

Many thanks in advance AVS friends.

I plugged in my Apple TV 4K and ran the HDMI test and everything is fine. It must be something with the Xbox output that doesn’t work with that port, very strange indeed.

Update: Never mind, I found the Bitstream/PCM output in the audio menu.

Hey guys. I got a b8 this year. Loved it. Perfect contrast. Thought to myself the only thing that would make this perfect is slightly brighter hdr and adaptive sync. So I sold my b8 and I sold my 1080ti.

I got my c9 last week and set it up on my backup 970. And it's got milky blacks. It's not a color space issue. Games simply produce a swampy grey glow around bright objects. And near blacks are washed out and look like ips glow.

It seems to be a variable graying of content. Turning the brightness down to 40 to 45 helps. But the gamma is wrong for every game. And even when I do set the gamma manually I have to noticeably crush blacks to reduce the glow. Here is a YouTube of a guy with something similar.

I'm literally not using my tv. I cant stand it. Its destroying picture quality and nothing looks remotely as good as the b8 which made all gamma points perfect at defaults and it was ideal at 50 brightness.

Even if I set my brightness and gamma per game it always looks dim and crushed
And it I set it to the default 50. It reminds me of ips glow except variable. I'd rather use my phone than the tv like this . I'd rather use anything.

Let me rephrase that, you sold your 1080ti and that may have taken some of the picture quality with it. I am using 2080ti and the games look pristine and gsync fluid; Destiny 2 HDR tends to darken scenes at times but the highlights are exceptional. Maybe try a different GPU to see if it helps and just return it if it doesn't.

Unfortunately not. It still does it on the dashboard with YouTube. It's possible the gamma being way off might be related because YouTube is not so granular with that like you need to be with pc games. But both produce grey clouding with bright things on the screen.

Let me explain the impact.imagine farcry primal. It's got the bright sky and dark shadows. Because everything is bright it greys the shadows. Same for anything with contrast.

Another game. Generation zero. Looked outstanding on the b8. It's all near blacks.everything popped. On this it looks like a IPS monitor for 2016 with a contrast ratio of 1000 to 1.

Do you have another PC to test? A laptop maybe to see if Youtube dashboard shows up the same?

And yeah I'm going to have to get a panel replacement from lg. I hope it's the panel. I'd hate to keep chasing the problem.

I'd rather 500 dead pixels than this.
