They have not enabled HDMI 2.1 on XB1X yet. There were no TVs in market. They will update it to support HDMI 2.1

It does freesync (vrr) and auto game mode. Tried it today and works on C9.

eARC/VRR, which is part of the HDMI 2.1 hardware specs, is possible with the HDMI 2.0b chipsets, provided the mfr designed the chips to up updated. If they did, then the mfr can claim HDMI 2.1 which is technically correct.

I never trust an atom, they make up everything.

Here’s a 100% white...have at it with the comments. I hoped we were past this on the QC. Looks like 4 distinct vertical areas imo.
I’v returned five C8 before I got one without tint or 8” vertical bands. I repeat, one out of five was finally 95% acceptable. I wanted to wait for the C9 (I still can with my three months return policy) but going thru all the hassle of lugging few more TV’s for a slightly better picture on the C9 is just not worth it not to mention it is still $800 off at Costco. It was and will be for next several years a panel lottery and who knows maybe they will never fix it just like LED still have all kinds of issues after almost 20 years of manufacturing HDTV. People waited for new Sony X950G and from what I read it’s not any better and in some respects worth then the 2018 X900F.

Well upon testing further looking at the color tint on 100% white I’ve now found 3 dead pixels so far...wasn’t even looking for them but they stick out on the white...sign I guess it’s definitely going back now.

Not a good look for LG as one of the first public owners in the wild...

Yes its those earth tones that highlight tint defects. In content that’s unacceptable.

Man, I was super pumped to get my C9 this Thursday...but, that’s quickly fading away, given Guitarguys on hand experience. I do have a 75Q8FN that the 65C9 is replacing. Maybe I should just stick with that, really thinking about it. I’m not trying to start a VS conversation either.

Gonna test some COD this afternoon. Gotta get the XOX settings changed for auto game mode and vrr. On the C9, you have options to turn on vrr and auto game mode in the menu.
Any chance you could try VRR on PC?

Well...besides the QC stuff I picked up on today, the rest of my impression in PQ, etc is positive. Maybe an unlucky lottery for me as D-Nice said his panel is good.

I’ll post the 5% banding pics later since I’m going to return this anyways, I mine as well look but I haven’t seen it in any dark or sports content.

John, at VE (for a fee) you do a panel inspection before shipping to a customer, correct? That goes with the calibration package? I’d want a panel inspection but wait until CalMAN 2019 comes out so it supports all the features on the C9. Is that possible. All this tinting talk is making me nervous. :/

I asked if they could do just panel check and no calibration and the answer was no. It made sense why because of the extra shipping costs, etc when they have it sent to store vs. direct to aonsimer from lg.

Btw, they are up on Best Buy’s website now.

Yep playing a tan background like sand in the desert or beach will make it show up. Send this picture to where you purchased the set, it should convince them to replace it.

That magenta tint on the sandy beach reminds me of the green/purple/magenta blob my Sony SXRD rear projection (circa 2006) developed. I was hoping I would never see that sort of non-uniformity again.

Those things were a trainwreck, perhaps the biggest trainwreck sony had in their tv history, that ended up in a lawsuit and then they canned the entire line. Obviously the 2019 oled wont have issues anywhere near that mass scale, but what is evident from one of the early buyer @GUITAR guy'[email protected] impressions is that the near black nonuniformity and tinting on full field white QC issues that have plagued oleds in previous years seem to have carried over into 2019, they havent been sorted out. I'm sure many others won't be as 'unlucky', but get ready to buy the lotto ticket again.

Motion is one of the most subjective issues, more so than contrast or color performance. On motion, i say that forget both the user and expert opinions, just head down to the store and evaluate for yourself. I'm sure there are people who found the C8's motion just fine, which you seemingly hated. So you already have an idea in your mind how C8's motion looks like, head to the store and see how C9 looks in comparison with 50/60hz content and movies. Just know that currently you will be able to play around with C9's interpolation (DJ/DB), but if you're eager to try out BFI, it seems from early user reports that the stock C9 firmware has a watered down BFI implementation and 50% BFI at 120hz isn't available right now.

Yes, that debacle and Sony's pathetic response made me swear off Sony TVs until I purchased an x930e a couple of years ago. I am potentially in the market for a C9 or A9G this year, but am especially sensitive to white non-uniformity, even more than to low-luminance non-uniformity (banding). Although the x930e is not perfect, it has no visible DSE or tinting and displays a purer, more uniform white than any TV I have owned. Even my late generation Panasonic plasma has a green tint to full-field white screens, though the tint is fairly uniform at least.

I remember there was talk a couple years ago of OLED panel binning, but it seems that there is no evidence that the higher end models use specifically selected panels. I would gladly pay a bit more and sacrifice some features for a more uniform display.

The only panel binning that might happen is on oled tv's that claim a customized panel, such as the oled released in late 2018 by philips or the gz2000 panasonic will release this year (these panels have sorting and some engineering done by the tv manufacturer). Apart from that, i dont see any evidence of panel binning. With lg oleds, some people claim that the W series has better QC than the C/E series but since there are so few W series owners out in the wild due to the high price of those models, it is inconclusive to say so.

Buying from VE with the panel inspection/calibration package may be the best way to go with OLEDs.

Honestly if you want to even look at it, which I didn’t until I saw an issue in content, is the 5/10/50/100 ire slides. 100% white will show any tinting and 5-10% is good for banding though that can improve in time. Tint cannot and is permanent.

I wouldn’t worry too much about banding until you are at 100 hours because it gets a bit better from 0-100 hours.

So from the sounds of it these units are now starting to hit showrooms more. Any ideas on when we will see them actually release the HomeKit support. I'm narrowing down to the Sony A9G and the C/E8 models.

It sounds like motion is much improved on these. Definitely interested in seeing the panel lotto this year and if it's a safer bet. Hoping Guitar guy is a 1 off experience and he was a fluke but also gets a good set shortly. I hate seeing others go through this as I feel their pain. Definitely not fun.

I wouldn’t worry too much about banding until you are at 100 hours because it gets a bit better from 0-100 hours.
Exactly. As a new owner I wouldn’t go look for problems unless you see banding or tint in content. In my case I saw the obvious tint and then looked at a white screen which also revealed the dead pixels.

Everything is a prototype until production units are released....... I am not surprised, a manufacturer can do what ever they like at anytime...Maybe it can be done with a firmware update, we will see.....
