Anyone still having raised black issues? In comparing my apple 4K tv to the on board Netflix app with the exact same settings, I’m finding that blacks are significantly raised on the on board app. Check godless episode 1 for a good example.

Can anyone confirm whether the TVs do have a 'game mode' (low latency) setting that is independent of game picture profile? Seems like there is a lot of confusion about this.

According to Vincent Teoh, you can choose any PM then turn on I think it's called instant response for that input, you will see it in the advanced picture mode settings, and that PM will work like game mode. No need to calibrate Game mode separately.

What are you guys choosing for the device for the Harmony remotes? It doesn't appear to be in the Harmony database. Are you choosing the C8?

Plasma had image retention that many mistook for burn-in.
OLED run much brighter but they appear to be less prone to burn-in.

However, if you watch any station 24/7 with banners like news, buy an LED.
OLED will burn in eventually.

Pixel shift is a placebo. The size of these banners and logos would require inches of movement, not pixels.
Even with inches of shift, you would eventually wear out an area of the screen.

E6 owner turned C9 here. The WebOS update, performance, and lipsync fix alone is worth the upgrade. Dynamic tone mapping definitely seems to bring out more detail in highlights.
Overall picture looks dimmer so far even with max OLED light and contrast while watching a UHD bluray, but I'm still tinkering with settings, but so far so good. I see there is an update already too, is it safe to update to the latest firmware?

LG OLED E9 and C9 - What are the differences

I tried posting this in the C9 E9 owner's thread but it seems to have gotten buried in a sub-discussion about burn-in (so I removed it)*.

Can someone describe or provide a link to a good description of the differences between the C9 and E9 series? I used the compare tool on LG's website and it only shows a difference in audio power and weight. It says the E9 weighs about 10lbs less than the C9. What accounts for that?

The E9 is described as "Glass" but nothing in the comparison mentions what this means. I assume it means the OLED panel is mounted on glass. Is that the real difference between the e9 and c9? What are the pros and cons to that?

Edit: * It seems the moderators moved it back here.

Thanks everyone for the responses / info about the burn in. Like I previously said, my question was more towards if it happens regardless the care when the tv gets old. My tv is Samsung plasma c7000 3d. I am going to buy the C9 now, so I was just curious about how its different, because in my case (maybe unique) I did everything to the letter in taking care of the tv, slider, changing contents , never just turning it off after watching anything. My tv is was never really used much even since the beginning, hence it was always perfect. Till now! cartoon network logo is burned in recently. (even with the same care as always). In short, a burn in happened to me and can only think it's because of tv ageing!! if that's even possible? it was not for careless situation at all. weird right!! Anyways c9 here I come !!!

I've started to connect all devices etc. but the sound is only working with the devices connected to Denon AVR. If I choose a device connected directly to C9 and using ARC (Denon on TV Input), there is no sound. Any ideas why this may be happening?

The graphic card is the Geforce rtx 2080ti founders edition.

I also received a lg 49sm9000 (which is painful local attenuation, you can see in my channel so you do not buy it for now) this also brings hdmi 2.1 and this does not work either 4k @ 120hz ...

Hopefully, if you do not get the AMD graphics with HDMI 2.1 at least the cursed DisplayPort cables 1.3 / 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 and let this work with the LG.

I would very cautious of these so called HDMI 2.1 cables on Amazon. On twitter I asked the HDMI Licensing CEO when HDMI 2.1 cables will be available. Basically official cables are not out yet. Just stick with the certified Monoprice cables for now.

Guys,

I ordered a HDMI 2.1cable from Amazon. I also went to best buy today to buy a 2.0 cable with ethernet. That fixed it. I'm pretty sure my older cables didnt have ethernet.

One more question, My Denon displays that pop up when I'm adjusting settings or volume, don't display on my LG. Is that because I have my cable box going to my LG HDMI 1 PORT and my Denon connected to my TVs HDMI 2/ ARC port? Is that how you guys have it or do you have everything going to your AVR first with this TV?

Design and audio. Internally they are exactly the same.

The glass part means the OLED panel is attached to a pane of glass rather than surrounded by a traditional bezel. It's supposed to create a floating effect.

Based on the flatpanelshd review mentioning it, I went through all of the menus (on the latest firmware) and couldn't find any sort of toggle for this. I think they were talking about ALLM, which to my knowledge, is only supported by the Xbox One.

It's got me thinking about ordering a colorimeter to try my hands at calibrating game mode.

Yes, that it is the reason.
These things only show up if your sources are connected to your AVR.

Unless you are connecting a device through the AVR first you won't get on screen menus for your receiver.
IE blu ray / cable box to AVR direct = on screen AVR menu
VS Blu ray/ cable box direct to tv or built in TV apps then to AVR through (e)ARC = no on screen AVR menu

Unless there's a reason you want your device direct to TV (like hdmi 2.1 feautures or gaming) you should go through the AVR first for the best audio anyway. The eARC features on the TV have recognized each individual device connected to my avr and allows me to control them with the TV remote too.

That is really disappointing to hear. I think it was mentioned as a feature all the way back to when LG announced the 2019 TV's. ALLM still only changes to game profile from what I have been told, so even for devices that support it, is is not solving anything.
Seems like it makes calibration 'required'.

Anyone know the post # where the basic settings are in this thread? Or is there another thread with the settings?

I'm coming from an E6 and mostly curious about the mpeg/noise/smooth gradient/motion settings. I know most of this stuff used to be turned off, but I understand 3 gen jump in processing may make some things worth turning on now.

I've been digging around for awhile now and finding some of these settings piece meal but no general consensus posts or anything yet.

Vince's review (of HDTVtest) seems to suggest that ALLM will actually just turn a low latency mode on, in whatever display mode you're in. So you could be using technicolor or an ISF Expert profile (both of which are generally the most accurate out of the box) and get game-mode levels of input lag, once 'Instant game response' has triggered correctly. Regrettably, ALLM isn't supported by anything except the Xbox One, which I don't have (and wouldn't migrate to over this feature for anyway)

It seems someone needs to measure the input lag in game mode versus another mode with "instant game response" enabled

Maybe. I asked flatpanelshd, they said ALLM switched picture profile. But nobody seems 100% clear on it.

2019 C9–E9 Owner's Thread (No Price Talk)

Below quotes are the discussions we had earlier in this thread regarding game mode on LG 9 series OLED.

I can see that Instant Game Response (which is under Additional Settings) can be turned on per input (HDMI1,2,3,4 etc) basis. So I enabled it for PS4 Pro and Xbox one x.

What puzzles me is that there's a "Game (User)" picture mode. What exactly is its purpose and why is it under different menu from the Instant Game Response settings?
On Samsung TVs, if Game Mode is enabled for input, you are locked into "Game" picture profile. You cannot choose other picture mode such as Standard, Movie etc.
But on LG C9, even though Instant Game Response is enabled, there are other picture modes (Standard, Technicolor, Cinema etc) available and "Game (User)" is one of picture mode and this confuses me.

What is advised config/setting for SDR and HDR console gaming?

You don’t really need ALLM. All it is is a convenience factor not to have to chance the picture mode preset.

So, our current understanding on Instant Game Response, Game picture profile and their relations to each other on 9 series is incorrect?

Is the C9 panel mounted on plastic or are you only referring to the 1/2" bezel around the edge of the panel?

Both Vincent and Flatpanels know employees at LG. One would think as credible AV journalists they wouldn't spread misinformation regarding the low latency mode access in other PQ modes. Perhaps @jrref can ask his contacts at LG to confirm?

Which HDR picture mode is the best? I'm currently using technicolor with DTM on, color gamut auto, warm 2, peak brightness high, 0 sharpness, DC off, super res off. Rest of the settings I left defaulted, same for other picture models though for SDR I left peak bright off as it was the default. Is this the same general consensus of settings the pros recommend, anything I should tweak? ChadB wont ne around my area for a bit, so I'm trying to get the best possible picture until I get it truly calibrated.

How about motion control settings, RC on everything off still? How about noise/mpeg/smooth gradient reducers, still off guys?

Got my 77C9 put in and spent a few minutes playing with it.

Walt’s in AZ really came through, the set was on a half sized pallet and they actually put a small piece of plywood on the front of the box as added insurance against damage, then the whole thing was strapped down tight to the pallet. Short of possible out of the box defects nobody should have any hesitation ordering one of these from them, it was even delivered by FedEx Freight and the delivery guy was super helpful considering it was “curbside only” delivery.

Initial thoughts;
  • Putting the stand on was a big PITA. I was quite concerned I was going to damage the TV in the process
  • Speaking of the stand, the TV tilts back a few degrees on it and it is a little wobbly. The tilt back from true level is going to bother my inner OCD, it’s hard to believe LG was this sloppy.
  • Out of the box the PQ is remarkable but could benefit from calibration. I set to cinema and did t change any other settings and had my socks blown off by earth 2 on Netflix, watched a couple of movie clips from Panasonic 820 disc player, looked outstanding.
  • Going to take time to get used to the remote, not a fan.
  • Could not believe how lightweight this sucker is for the size.
  • Game mode looks like garbage, going to have to calibrate it.
  • So far just watching content and paying close attention to the picture I don’t see any defects such as obvious color casts, jail bars or other distractions.
  • The sheer gravity of having a set this big in my living room..wow.
