Anyone used eARC successfully yet? There seems to be a quite a few eARC complaints on the C9 thread.

There will always be something with screen uniformity. So many variables at play, something is bound to be present.

Picked up an A9F at BestBuy two weeks ago. Began seeing a fast strobe flashing on the left side of the screen when playing 4K movies from my Panasonic UB9000. Doesn't happen all the time, but is noticeable during dark parts of the movie. Haven't noticed it when I watch my Amazon Firestick. Like the set, but am thinking about returning it for a A9G.

Anyone else experience this and is there a setting fix? Thanks.

I have eARC running into my Yamaha ARC. Haven't noticed any issues.
Apple TV plugged into HDMI on the A9G.

Hopefully Sony will get the Apple TV app soon enough, so that I can run natively.
Apple may have an update on this today at their WWDC.

Understood which is why I mentioned I'm okay with white having issues on my current TVs. This year is the worst I've seen on any year OLED. Like I said, once it starts displaying on colors other than white then it starts to become a deal breaker for me. Not sure if that TV was out of spec compared to the norm so still holding out for more examples.

I’m curious about this as well. I’m getting a riser so I can use my soundbar and I’m wondering if earc will give me better sound quality than arc did.

I don't use a set top box, just appleTV for Hulu live content, HBO Now, etc. Netflix and Prime running directly thru the Sony.

We've watched quite a few hours of television on the set, but no sports and no news channels, but trying to watch higher contrast content: The Expanse (Prime); In Order of Disappearance (Netflix); The Night Manager (Prime); Chernobyl (HBO); Our Planet (Netflix).

I have not done any calibrating, other than the setup provided through Dolby Vision. I don't see any tinting, banding, judder or stutter (or whatever you want to call it). I'm not to the level of picture "nerdness" (intended as a compliment) as some of you are - I'm just a consumer who wanted to upgrade.

Hands down, the best picture. Better than the A9F or Z on display at BB (in which I could see the stuttering with sharp blacks).

I don't have any photos, but I don't think that the photos really do any justice to the quality of the product.

I realize I have a ton to learn about this OLED display (such as: what's a normal consumer "break in" period?; how to turn off Dolby Vision?; etc). I will probably connect the wires for the center channel to the OLED tonight, to see how the sound is, and I'll report back.

Lastly: big thank you to all of you who have provided your comments prior to and during this release.

If you want to turn off DV just go into your video settings on your Apple TV and turn off match dynamic range and match frame rate and also set it to 4K hdr 60fps. Do this for anything hdr10 or dv based and for sdr select 4K sdr 60fps.

I’m using eArc into my Yamaha Rx-A3080. The only issue I’m having is random audio hiccups or dropout for a split second while watching any of those Netflix DV calibrated Planet Earth shows. It can happen several times a minute or several times an hour. Haven’t attempted to track down the issue yet as I’ve been focused more on dialing in a good an image as I can with the Sony. I’ll soon move on to that.

IMAX Enhanced and the "Privilege 4K Movies" app: I'm only getting stereo from the 4 samples/trailers. I'm able to get Atmos from the on-board Netflix app so I don't think it's an eARC or hdmi issue. I have an IMAX Enhanced capable receiver (Denon avr-x6500h). Anyone else able to get IMAX Enhanced?

I haven't seen any flashing/strobing reports for the 2019 panels yet, but it was reported frequently on 2018 panels like the C8 and A9F. It's odd you're only seeing it on one side of the screen, though.

It was fairly noticeable on my A9F in streaming content (Mr. Robot and GoT brought it out quite easily) until I calibrated it with CalMAN. It's completely gone now. I don't think there's a specific setting you can adjust to fix it quickly, unfortunately. It seems if grayscale and gamma aren't quite right just above black, the display can't make up its mind what to do and it fluctuates rapidly.

I recommend you buy CalMAN for Home and an i1Display Pro and try AutoCal. If it doesn't fix it, you can exchange your A9F for another one (or an A9G) and calibrate your new set, which you should do anyway

Thanks for the response. I'm going to have ChadB come out and calibrate the set as soon as I put some hours on it. Just seemed funny that it was just with 4k discs and I didn't see it (yet) on my Firestick. I was initially concerned that it was a defective panel.

Are you using 5.1 or more channels? I believe the C9 was having some sort of problem with multi-channel audio over eARC.

Any recommendations on hardware for mounting to the wall?
Sony's wall mount for the A9G comes in at $250.00, if you can find it in stock.
I know there are other options and would love to hear what other owners are using.

I'm using the Sanus OLL15-B1 -- flush mount, no tilt or anything, but it's easy to install and it's inexpensive

I *think* it's working fine for me: the Netflix app is able to send Atmos to my receiver for shows that have it. I'm not able to get anything but stereo from the Sony Privilege 4k app though, and I thought it was there to showcase IMAX Enhanced content?

Question for A9G owners- is there a screensaver that can be setup to protect against a static image on the display for a length of time? The reason I ask is that we watch TV during dinner and then I pause the show while we clean up dishes/etc.. Usually about 15 minutes or so...
Thanks, Gerry

It has a screen saver that by default, is set to engage after 5 minutes of inactivity. It’s also preset to turn off after 15 minutes inactivity. Both are user adjustable.

With an IMAX Enhanced UHD I found on my Sony ZA5000ES I have to switch the sound field to A.F.D then I get the IMAX DTS:X in the AVR display. Via the Privilege App I played with switching the sound field from the receiver remote I got all channels but nothing on the receiver tha says IMAX Enhanced or DTS-X. This with the A9F.

They are still present, to a lesser degree. In the c9 thread dnice answered that the chrominance overshoot on the 2019 panels is similar to the 2018 lg's post .31 firmware update. The .31 firmware improved the issue on the 2018 lg's, it was severe before that firmware. The 2019 panels ootb are like that. Meaning it's still present to some degree in 2019, it's just that people haven't discovered the issues yet, it usually takes a few months (beyond the 'honeymoon period') until user reports of such anomalies begin showing up.

Some OLEDs sets come with special features and settings to preserve image quality and prevent burn in and image retention. Does the Sony AG9 series?

In a search on this site all I found was not to watch news & sports programs too much. Well, I watch some news & sports programs but not that much.

Man-Cave Home Theater: Sony VPL-VW385ES 4k Projector, CIH, 130" Stewart ScreenWall 2.35:1 1.3 gain, Denon AVR-X4400H, nVidia Shield TV (2017), Oppo BDP-203 Blu-ray Player, 6 - HSU HB-1 MK2 Front & Surrounds, 1 - HSU HC-1 MK2 Center, 4 - HIW-1 Horn In-Wall Speakers (ceiling mount), 2 - HSU VTF-15H Subwoofers.

i bought a 65A9G and the flashing problem is still there, before i bought a c9 and i returned it because of this problem and the sony also have the problem.

but sony manages the problem in a better way, is really hard to see in normal content.

You will need to turn off the System sounds in order for DTS to pass while using the "Privilege 4K IMAX Enhanced" app.

HOME > Settings > Display & Sound > System sounds > Off

In a search on this site all I found was not to watch news & sports programs too much. Well, I watch some news & sports programs but not that much.
It has a pixel shift option. That just moves the image slightly every so often. Not sure how much this helps though as you can’t see the picture move.

Then there’s pixel refresher. Or something. It does something when the tv is off. I don’t know what though. I don’t know if it runs automatically every so often when you shut off the tv or only if you do it manually.

Sony's wall mount for the A9G comes in at $250.00, if you can find it in stock.
I know there are other options and would love to hear what other owners are using.
Sanus models stick out about 4" from the wall - I'm using Sanus because I need the lateral movement (20" left or right). Best Buy Magnolia has a few of them on display that you can play with. I'm using the super strong Elite BXF130-B1 ($400) because I plan to replace the 65" with the 77" later in the year when Black Friday rolls around, and so I need the sturdy one. In comparing this Elite model with the others, it's very obvious that this one is more robust.
