This is the A9G OWNER'S THREAD. Note that I didn't say "I can never get tired of saying this."

1) I posted about an audio dropout issue I was experiencing with my A9G.
2) Another awesome user with the same equipment (HiFi59) promptly suggests a great counter measure/work-around solution to save me and others wasted time and grief (thank you BTW!).
3) I immediately try this solution and it works for me.
4) Our communication helps other users address the issue should it affect them.
5) Ideally, the issue raises awareness and it comes to Sony's attention.
6) Sony then fixes the issue.

See how this works?

Yeah, I ordered mine 65” about 5 weeks ago and only arrived yesterday.
As was said by someone else; if ordering from Best Buy or the like, they have a tonne of stock, but if ordering off a local dealer, takes far longer.

Thanks for the replies. It’s maddening to see Best Buy having 2 day delivery available.

I then turned off Dolby plus on the Sony and left it at Dolby. It works for some reason. I no longer have the issue as of 3 hours of viewing. I was getting the audio dropouts or audio hiccups about once a minute or so.

I’ll try this as well. Even though my dropouts aren’t that frequent.

Plenty other large retailers, such as Beach Camera, B&H, or Crutchfield have stock for immediate shipping. I received my A9G six days after ordering.

Best Buy is Sony's largest retail partner(by a very large margin), it's expected that they'll have inventory when other retailers do not. But yeah, still maddening.

Question about netflix calibrated mode... can you turn it off? I assume if you get the set professionally calibrated you wouldn’t want that mode ever

Yes, you can turn off Netflix Calibrated Mode and use a normal picture mode.

I’m just anxious to get my hands on this TV after sending back 3 85” 950g’s for various screen issues. Wish the screen was 85” (first world problems), but excited about the PQ, and hopefully better quality control.

what was wrong with the 85 950g's ? I am thinking about selling my 77 inch A9g for a 85 950g

I attached some images of the three 950’s. Kind of thinking strike three to the 950g. Next up us 77A9G. These images were all taken from the apps preloaded onto the 950’s and were not run over hdmi. Just wanted to make sure it wasn’t an issue with the cable.

I had so many issues like this with Sony LCD panels when 4K started. Good luck with the OLED Sony...

We have zero output devises that use HDMI 2.1. LG is the only devise with a 2.1 input. We have no way to check HDMI 2.1 out so more or less we have "LG's version" of what HDMI 2.1 should be. Anyone else wonder how good LG's HDMI 2.1 will work as far as compliance issues and all that stuff?

Got tv this afternoon.
Only a few hours in, but so far I’m super impressed! Watched couple 4k films, some 4k tv content on prime/netflix and some 1080p content.

I’m coming from a calibrated Panasonic ZT60.
I’m super impressed by the new set; blacks seem better than the plasma, colours really pop, and screen in general is lovely.
Huge fan of the thin border and how close it is to the stand.
1080p content is surprisingly good looking. Anime looks pretty amazing too; colours really shine and halo’ing seems less, which is great.

Although not using any built-in apps (I just want a plain ole TV, damnit), interface is pretty nice/snappy and stays mostly out of the way.
WOLVERNOLE and value like this.

Actually in the market for one. Although if your the quality of opinions on the subject I might just look some place else. These forums used to be useful once and treated people with respect.

I think i’ve made up my mind! I’m thinking a9g 77 over the c9 77. Now the only question is when few calibrators come to iowa so i think i’ll do the VE thing. Maybe i’ll see if i can wait a week to see if they have any july 4th sales... if i can contain my excitement that long :P

I was responding to another poster who stated he was thinking of returning an A9G and buying a larger X950G. Your A9G should be a noticeable improvement in overall PQ compared to the X950G, except in peak terms of peak brightness.

I checked with jrref (who calibrated my A9G at VE) and you are correct. (I saw you are also thinking of buying it at VE and getting it calibrated - I highly recommend going that route.) He will calibrate your display in picture mode CustomPro1 for viewing in the dark and CustomPro2 for daytime viewing in a somewhat bright room. You just leave it in CustomPro1 or 2 for all your viewing (the display will automatically switch to HDR or DV CustomPro1 or 2 if you are playing HDR or DV material, respectively). For Netflix, simply go into the Netflix app and change the picture mode to CustomPro1 or 2, and it will stay that way (instead of the Netflix calibrated mode).

I am slightly concerned about the brightness, coming from a 60” Kuro. I may have to do a better job controlling light in the room. The reflective screen on the 950g was terrible.

Hey all !

My A9G 55” arrived on Friday. Set it all up. Looks decent. It was a replacement for my Sony 55hx950 in which was professionally calibrated by Robert Buche.

Going to put the 200hrs on it before I call Buche for this one. But beforehand I wanted to ask some questions.

1- Apparently it seems from the manual this thing does indeed to support HDMI 2.1 (after the long extensive questioning of this in earlier pre-release threads). Is this correct and verified by you guys as well ?

2- Can anyone please send me 4K color pallet files for break in ? I never owned anything 4K, so my previous color pallet break in files are 1080. (thanks in advance)

3- I would like to know the best 3rd party extended warranty companies you all use here. My A9G was a replacement direct from Sony, so I wasn’t able to get the BestBuy one. (contrary to what Sony told me)

Ahhh ok. Thought I read in the manual where the 4 HDMI ports were all 2.3 compatible. My bad. Thanks for clearing this up. Curious though then, (though it doesn’t matter to me, I’m just curious)- What version HDMI are these then ? 2.0 ? 2.0a ? Or 2.0b ?

HDCP is not hdmi. HDCP is for copyright protection. These are probably hdmi 2.0B

There is nothing wrong with consumers who do not wish to have redundancy in their AV setups (internal apps + external STB). Not everyone wants to buy a Harmony or programmable remote either.
Some people may have this TV in their bedrooms or other rooms besides the media room and should rightfully expect to control their devices with a single remote.

The ARC issue affected other audio products besides Yamaha and it wasn't Yamaha who came out with a firmware fix for Oreo -- it was Sony.
Again, I see where you're coming from, but let's remember different strokes for different folks.
I thought it was a great reminder to avoid hunting down little quirks and issues that could be completely avoided if your setup allows. Mental note to do this for both my TVs (great room and kids' room).
