That sounds pretty crazy to me......

Hi dudes,

I'm thinking to buy this TV !

I'd like to have a 65 inch but I can't convince my partner, she only accepts a 55 inch at max

I have a question for those who own this TV, I'll probably choose this TV because it is Android TV and I'd like to not be forced to use an additional device such Nvidia Shield.

Do you know if the video player from the TV is correctly working with a 4K video ? (when the source is stored in a NAS or else similar)

Could someone here test it ?

Thanks a lot

You could just download kodi or similar, plays my 4k high bitrate files fine
edit: but the builtin player might work just as good, didnt try

This is more like a Kodi variant, but better IMO. It plays mkv files and BDMV from my NAS. I know it sends LPCM for True HD and Master, not sure about Atmos.

I have a question for all A9G owners. I see in the "OLED Screen Uniformity Discussion-Banding and Vignetting" thread that mostly, if not only, that the people posting pictures of their OLEDs are LG OLED owners. Is this because Sony OLEDs have better uniformity and QC than LG or just because LG sells more than Sony? I just wanted to make sure that purchasing a Sony OLED kinda give me a better chance of wining the panel lottery instead of getting a lemon

No way of knowing, and it may be confirmation bias, but I do think it's both. We know that LG sells more (it's priced cheaper), but it does seem that QC and uniformity issues are heavily leaned towards the LG side even percentage-wise...look at the burn-in thread too.

I also don't think Sony and Panasonic are randomly priced higher for some made-up reason like Bose. Their processing, motion, and accuracy out of the box are valid. Yes, Sony gets their panels from LG so it would be marked up a little more anyway, but still. Looking at both LG and Sony extensively before settling with A9G (note, I did have Z9D at the time so my unconscious bias may have been in effect), I did feel it was worth the price for the quality bump.

Actually as D-Nice indicated, there has been evidence to support both. Bottom line, cheaper usually means less time for QC and more expensive usually means more time and better QC. From my experience I see less uniformity issues on Sony's vs LGs and less on the LG E,G and W than the B's and C's. Not that you can't get an excellent C9 for example but the odds are better with the more expensive sets. There is also the question if the panels from LG display are graded. We discussed that subject a while back.

Just noticed a new software update. It says security and picture improvements. I don’t know why mine didn’t automatically do the update when it’s set up to do that. I just happen to check it on my own. It takes about 10 minutes to dl (@45Mb/s)and about 5 minutes to update.

If you're talkin, you ain't learnin.

Angry Internal apps and USB don't support HD audio

In case anyone was trying to get this working like I was, the A9G does not support Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD from any internal apps over eARC. This includes Android TV apps that you may download and run on the TV like Plex. After fighting with this for a couple of hours (A9G, Denon x3600h and a certified 48Gb cable), I came across this tidbit in the A9G documentation - "Your TV doesn't support DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD from USB files, video streaming services, and broadcasts." So the only thing eARC is good for on this TV is if you plug your devices into your TV instead of AVR. It looks like the LG C9 has the same problem, but users over there are trying to get LG to change it. Does Sony listen to and act on requests for stuff like this, or is it a lost cause?

First thing I do as soon I get a new TV, source or receiver is to turn OFF any flavor of CEC, including ARC, eARC, Bravia Sync, etc. 99% of HDMI handshake issues are due to CEC or HDCP. Never used internal apps on any smart TV and planing on not doing it with my A9G. I have an ATV 4K and Nvidia Shield for streaming duties.

Interesting - I had been using the built in apps for Netflix/Amazon/Vudu and it was passing Atmos to my receiver. I had been considering getting an ATV4k but had been on the fence about its usefulness. I don't use a NAS or play anything but discs from my UHD BR and then stream from various apps; still worth it in your opinion then?

So i will probably upgrade from a C8 in a few months. I havent yet decided so im open to a Panasonic, Sony and maybe LG again.

Anyway, i've seen from Vincents video that the AG9 have some near black flashing too and other owners have mentioned seeing it on the AF9 so im wondering how bad it is on the AG9 when it comes to content like netflix and Amazon, does the near black flashing happen often or is it rare and subtle?

I was concerned about that too, but haven't noticed it at all yet, and I watch Netflix and/or Amazon on a nightly basis.

I do the opposite, lol. I make sure to enable it all and go through all the settings to make sure they sync up properly. Never had any issues; normally the issues are either cable related or mismatching quality of gear (or older vs newer etc).

It's definately a limitation of the A9G. I tried it with arc on and off on all devices. eArc was always enabled. Aside from this one limitation, the apps on the A9G are superior to the Shield TV IMO. They support both Dolby vision and atmos, whereas the Shield doesn't support Dolby Vision at all. Was looking forward to having one less device, but oh well.

I've only had my A9G for a week, but haven't seen any flashing.

Love to hear that, i guess it's just certain scenes that can show it but most scenes are fine then. There's not that many people that complain about it on the Sony sets but after how bad it was on the C8 before the firmware it makes me nervous to deal with that again which is why im asking so far in advance.
