I saw an LG C9 kept next to a C8 first time..

And something surprising I found, I saw that the C8 actually looked a tad bit brighter and sharper than the C9. These were seen at a store so of course both were uncalibrated running on preset modes, but I had the store guy confirm to me by remote that both tv's were set to the cinema home default preset and running the same hdr demo content through a splitter. I went there expecting the C9 to have an edge over the C8 in these areas.

So was it my eyes tricking me or these two tv's on display were set up wrongly, or do the C8's infact appear a little brighter in an uncalibrated state? I'm not talking of meter measurements, just what I saw by eye.

The testers at rtings.com have the C9 as brighter than the C8 for the "HDR Real Scene Peak Brightness" https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/pict...eak-brightness. However, the C8 tested brighter in a number of other measures.

I have no personal experience in comparing the two model years.

Panel variance. That's all it is.

I do...I owned a 77C9 for a weeks and brought it back for a 77C8...to me their wasnt enough to justify the price difference between the two. Both performed similar in my case.

clever choice, if hdmi 2.1 does nothing for you, i honestly would do the same, same panels, same image processor. cant justify the price difference.
