My 88 specials are "upside down" also. Having the waveguide at ear level helped remove a null (found using REW) and I could easily hear the difference. it is obviously much easier to flip them upside down instead of trying to angle them by propping them up somehow!

Ok that's what I wanted to hear I'm thinking of a way to do a base for them where I could just flip them any time I needed. I'm looking into making a magnetic base probably I'll have to play around see what I can come up with.

Thanks guys

It's been confirmed by Tux that it's fine to invert them. I'll be doing the same

Have you started yours yet? Unfortunately I'm going out of town for 5 days so I won't be able to keep the progress going on mine. I've been really anxious to hear them for a while now.

I decided to glue up a 1/2" price of mdf on the baffles. I didn't feel good with the thickness of where the speaker mount. it seemed to thin. Now the baffle is 1 1/4 thick.

No not yet but hoping to get to my DIY store this weekend to get MDF cut. I'll be building mine tall but shallow and taking advantage of the size/shape of MDF. Mine will be 48" tall, 10.25" wide and 8" deep. Also will be double baffled like yours (or at least for the height of the supplied baffle). I need mine to fit behind my projector screen hence the size. I'm also seriously considering wall mounting each of the speakers to a wall using two tv cantilever brackets so I can adjust toe in etc but still then tighten the brackets up so they are solid (solid enough anyway)

No need to worry about a double thick baffle on these. The recesses aren't very deep and the bracing is right behind them. Plus we're removing wood from the baffle and replacing it with metal.....from the woofers frame. So they're definitely strong enough.

Whoops already glued them up, I'm sure it could only help though. Is it possible to recess the woofers a little bit more to have it sit flush? Because they way they are cut the woofer sticks out about 3/16 I want them to be flush for the grill that I want to put on them to work.

Recessing a little more is totally fine with a double baffle. Just use a pattern router bit or something and knock out the depth you need. Cool!

Slow progress, I got all 3 with the first layer on the sides. It's 1/2" , I'm going to go over it with one more layer of 1/4" all around.

I quickly put them together, to test them over Christmas party,, soldered the crossovers with Matt's boards. It went smoothly, they are great. And they fit perfect behind the mids and comp driver.

The trio sitting where will be their permanent spot, All I can say right now is wow, they sound really good! Everyone that heard them so far liked them a lot. I'll set them up better and run mcacc later on. I'm afraid I'm not going to want to take them out of my room to finish them. I still need another layer of 1/4 mdf all around. As they are right now it's only 1/2 ". On the sides. Honestly I think they are fine like that. But when I get them back to the shop I guess I'll finish them with the other layer before I do the paint. I'll do some more listening in the next couple days and share my thoughts on how they sound.

Loving it! My 893s are coming along very slowly but hopefully I'll have them ready for paint by the weekend. Then tackle the Volt 8's and SI 18 HT subs. Glad to hear yours are working well together as I had no idea how the speakers and subs would integrate. My subs should be smaller though.....

Thanks, You're not going to be disappointed, Even without any dsp for the subs it sounds great. Once I get a minidsp and dial it in properly, I can't even imagine how good it will be. One word about the 893's. I ran them as "large" on the receiver just to see what they would do without the subs. Mcacc bumped up 63hz about 5db. I put on some music. These had me fooled for a sec. I had to look to make sure I didn't have the subs on. They have surprisingly good midbass, or more than I was expecting.

Do you have a build thread we can checkout?
