Plug it directly into the modem and avoid any router you may be using.

The mate was registered prior to August 12, yet right now shows as Retrieving Data. The used moxi was not.

Some other questions:

1) Do we have any contact information for Arris / Moxi / new moxi company owners?

2) Do we have any information as to how long our moxis will continue to receive channel lineups?

3) The online moxi.com portal is vital for deleting shows on other units without having to go to them physically, plus for online searching and show programming. Does anyone know how much longer that site will still be working?

4) Is anyone working on moxi developments or work-arounds?

It is a great system (even though it has a few missing features my Replay Tvs had - ie multi dvr scheduling / conflicts and multi unit show deletions) but it seems like it was shut down while still in its prime. Replaytv had huge outside development, but sadly it was stuck with SD recording.

I loathe thinking about having to pay a monthly subscription to my cable operator for their box(es) for whole house dvr.

^^^

The answer to all of those questions is basically "no" because we are on our own at this point just squeezing whatever drops remain out of the system until the well dries up.

If you don't find the answer here then you won't find it anywhere else at this point. You can try emailing the Moxi support guy and you might be lucky enough to get a response depending on the query.

i hope u didnt brick your moxi dvr. it must be registered fully to an account prior to doing ffp. when u got it, was it still registered to the seller or did it immediately try to take u through the setup process that u eventually get to the passcode screen?

did u have a mate and moxi prior to getting the used moxi? i would try to pair it with original moxi. i hope u didnt make big changes regarding the mate on your online account.

1) I think they still use the [email protected] email but I wouldn't expect much help regarding our devices. they are focused on the moxi whole home solution that generates revenue each month through providers. an arris exec moved over to espial to be their GM. I really hope they just keep the system going for a very long time.

4) I wish there was a secondary way to get the guide data.

Moxi Mate

So after reading the latest posts I got to wondering if my Mate would still work after not being used for the last 8 months or so. It has been registered since 2014. It came right up and after about 10 minutes it told me it needed to reboot to update. I let it and it came back up and worked just like it always had. I guess as long as it was on your account before the cut off things will still work.

I read a Comcast faq about mpeg-4. it seems to only affect hd channels at this time and not sd channels. that is at least some sigh of relief.

Can anyone point me to the directions for the 4 finger press for rebooting.

Moxie went out last nite and I have another drive to try. This other drive is either the original or one that I configured several years ago in anticipation of an eventual failure.

Can anyone please help me to get the Moxi programming guide to update/work. I am a snowbird just returning to our Florida house & I booted up my Moxi but I can not get the programming guide to work. I am getting all of my channels fine but when I go to the guide it just shows what is on at present but nothing in the future. Thanks

it will auto update the program guide in due time. However, if you want to force a guide update, make sure your Ethernet is connected and go into settings > diag > service status > update program guide.

OK. I've searched and not found a post relating to this but I may have missed it. My Moxi is working fine as was my Moxi Mate but a few days ago, the Mate seems to have lost connection with the remote. The remote works fine adjusting the volume and turning on & off the TV so I know the remote is sending a signal to TV but the only way I can control the Mate is from the front panel buttons. I've tried the reset (pressing reset button for 3-5 seconds) & have unplugged (basically same as reset) with no success. I tried resetting remote to factory settings and only lost control of TV. Any ideas to determine if it is the Mate or the remote &\or a fix? Thanks.

you have a dvr and a mate. I think you have 2 remotes so try the other one for the mate.

Charter has added several new channels to the local lineup. Is there any hope that the guide can be updated to pull down the listings?

I believe guide data updates are provided by a 3rd party which Moxi picks up (but you have to tell them which channels are missing). I, unfortunately forgot the company as I did this over 3+ years ago.

Call/Contact Charter for help....

I believe it's Gracenote/Tribune Media Services. I used to have contact to TMS to report channel lineup changes (much quicker than going through the cableco in my experience), but with the mergers & spinoffs & sales (last I knew, Gracenote was being sold off to Nielsen), the email addy I had is defunct. If Charter isn't helpful, you might try this:

Good luck!

This is the email we used to contact for guide update requests [email protected] but a lot has changed since then.

The online form has an option to report listing errors so maybe that will work.

Thank you everyone for the quick feedback. I have sent off an email to the zap2it folks and posted a message on the forum. Not a big deal but it would be nice to have the listings.

Thanks again.

I no longer receive the following HD channels with my Moxi with cablecard on Time Warner in Louisville, KY:

Syfy
ESPN
Espn2
Nick
AMC
VH1
Animal Planet
HLN
Food
BET
Weather

Could this be due to mpeg4?

it could be. what is the exact error message? Ex. no signal, etc. do you get the sd versions of these channels? if you have a leased cable box, test these hd channels on that one to see if they come through.

Basically you have three choices to play with.
  1. Tivo.
  2. Buy an antenna and OTA recorder.
  3. Stream everything.

I ditched cable TV and went OTA and streaming so my Moxi is just a playback device now. It's not been a huge issue. Yet.

edit: Thought of one more. Become a nomad and travel the country only living in cable service areas that Moxi still works with!

Option 2 is out due to housing rules where i live (city apartments). What streaming service do you use that has all channels in one place? I also heard that TIVO's new owners want to get rid of its boxes. Does TIVI support mpeg4 and UHD?

TiVO will be fine with all cable systems and the newest devices support UHD. Depending on your locale you might get everything you need using an indoor antenna. I got a discount on a Mohu and it grabs everything within 30 miles. For $15 it was a cheap experiment.

Hulu is currently the main aggregator of the networks so you'll find mostly everything in prime time on there the day after airing, except CW, but they have their own free app which is fairly good for the most part. You can pad the rest of your viewing habits with streaming subs to HBO, Starz etc. and Netflix and Amazon will pick up shows on cable you might like after the season ends.

There are holes that are tricky to fill. TNT and TBS are annoyingly absent from most services and if you are looking for the speciality channels like Food and Travel then you probably will not get what you need.

Other than that your option is going back to whatever box horror your cable company rents out for an exorbitant fee.

Thanks, Vision... cable rental box is not an option either. Thanks for the Mohu tip. Since I live in Connecticut on the other side of long island, most(if not all) of my channels are from New York. I wonder if that antenna is powerful enough to capture them.
What playback decoding device do you use?

You can do what I did. I just bought a few of them for fun to see what worked the best and discovered that the cheapest option was about the same as the more expensive versions. So I took the others back to the store.

Then I just ran coax to a splitter to the main TVs. That was a small hassle and if you have TVs in multiple places it might be more convenient to just buy a few antennas. The streaming content comes in on multiple devices - Fire Stick, Blu-ray player, Xbox One, smart TV etc.

I just remembered that you might want to check out Sony Vue, Sling and DirecTV Now. They offer live streaming channel packages (but limited or no DVR function) so you can catch most of the popular cable networks and OTA channels for a monthly fee.

Of course streaming depends on your ISP. And if they don't like watching customers eat up 300GB of bandwidth every month then you might have additional problems. That's on average. I hit 500GB last month!
