Good info though the author should have mentioned that many commonly available entry-level turntables come equipped with internal phono amps and have analog RCA line-level or USB outputs. Generally speaking, I find these should be avoided as a higher percentage of the low overall cost has gone into that amp and/or connections only to be deprived of good platter materials, drive system, tonearm and cartridge.
