TV18 / TV18ipal thread

Hi all,

Based on overwhelming interest so far I'm doing one dedicated thread for the TV1812 / TV18ipal

Basics: (everything is subject to minor updates)

* Cabinet - 31 inch tall, 21 inch wide, 25 inch deep. Made in Ohio with our signature "Satin Black" finish.
* Amp - In house 960w ICE platform with proprietary DSP frontend. Assembled, QC, and programmed here in Ohio.
* Woofer - Italian B&C 18 inch neo *12* series.

Details. - 12.8hz tuning
In room extension 9-11hz.

Basically a single 18 inch version of the TV3612.

The TV18ipal is same as above except the woofer is the 18" Ipal woofer.

A new twist to pre order pricing so please read carefully.

TV1812 pricing.- $1949 single / $3699 duals.
TV18ipal pricing - $2199 single / $4199 duals.

Pre-order(50% deposit required). Remaining 50% balance due before shipping.

TV1812 preorder - $1649 single / $3099 duals.
TV18ipal preorder - $1899 single / $3599 duals.

Tom,
I have dual XS30se’s but these new LT subs are intriguing. My room is an open floor plan so I probably would get more output below about 30Hz with these. How would you compare them.

Forgot to ask, when is the preorder time and when do you expect them to be available? Also, this is for Ohio cabinets are you still going to offer them in a Chinese cabinet?
Thanks

The TV-18 is looking good and the pre order price with dual sub discount is a great deal. Any idea when we might be able to get a glimpse of the finished design?

Eventually I do hope to offer the china cabinet option. But with everything going on right now I don't want to hazard a guess on their availability. It will be 6 months minimum I'd say and it could even be 2021.

We're rating the amps the same as all of the Ipal models--960 watts.

What is the port diameter on the TV18"

Edit: Tom answered this question for me in an email but I wanted to post it here in case anyone else was wondering. The port is a single flared 4" port.

Final TV18 cabinet design.

31 tall, 21 wide, 26.5 deep(with grill).

Cabinet is made and finished in Ohio.
Amplifier is our in house 960w ICE platform with proprietary feature board circuit design.
Woofers are B&C neo from Italy.
Down firing 4 inch port that widely flares externally and internally to 6 inches.

Several reasons why I went down firing port.

1) it allows a straight circular port with no bends. For port design that is optimal. There is no debate about that.
2) the resistance between the cabinet and the floor acts as a port extension to a small degree
3) down firing port minimizes any possibility of audible port "noise"
4) this allows both the woofer and the port to be as close to the floor as possible. In any subwoofer design this is optimal to minimize one potential cancellation reflection while ALSO maximizing the boundary reinforcement potential.
5) I love the look of our custom machined nylon standoffs(which we source from the USA!) and sending those guys another purchase order felt pretty darn good.

Am I biased? Sure.
But at 1649, shipped(to the lower 48 states). Look at the above and I believe most would agree with me that the new TV1812 is an unprecedented value---even for Power Sound Audio.

Are there any estimations in the performance difference between the TV1812 and the V1812? I'm very interested in both.

From what I can gather the TV1812 will be tuned lower by about 7hz which will give a slightly more thick sound across the spectrum while allowing the in room response to dig about 10hz lower than the V1812. The lower port tuning combined with the port being on the bottom of the cabinet should make the TV1812 less prone to audible port noise. They both use the same drivers and amplifiers so the mid range bass will probably be similar and the ULF will be deeper and stronger on the TV1812. With the pre order pricing the TV1812 is only $50 more than a V1812 so it looks like a pretty incredible deal on the TV1812 at the moment. I have two V1812 subs with two TV18 Ipal's on pre order and I expect it to be a notable improvement over my current V1812's based on what I've heard from Tom and other users on this forum. The only down point regarding the TV1812 vs the V1812 is the cabinet size is larger on the TV1812.

Tom has been very busy and you will not see any measurements from him for a while.

here is a idea of what you can expect from the V1812. keep in mind this has the older Eminence driver.

https://www.powersoundaudio.com/products/v1801

the TV1812 will have a port tune of 12.8hz IIRC

Thank you for the link. Those CEA numbers look nice. Are they RMS @ 2m?

Are there any discussions about what changes with the drivers? I'd also like to read what difference the ipal driver makes.

Honestly I have no idea. Numbers can give you an idea but i like to actually hear and feel it my room. I have demoed a FV15HP, HSU VTF-15H MK2 and a V1510. I kept the V1510 the midbass was night and day difference. The FV15HP did dig deeper. The HSU wasn't even in the same class at all ( its still a great sub) IMHO I like the finish on the PSA sub, its not for everyone...its reminds me of a truck bed spray on liner...super tuff unlike vinyl wrap. a lot of DIY guys use something similar it think its called duratex and JTR also uses something like it. As for the NEO and iPal you would have to ask in the PSA owner's thread some guys have posted their REW sweeps.

All of the measurement data on the PSA website is taken at 1 meter. I think you subtract 9 dB for an equivalent 2 meter reading.

I thought 9 dB was to go from 1m peak to 2m RMS. If the PSA numbers are peak then I think you are right. If they are RMS, i believe it would be only 6dB change to adjust the numbers. Not sure about that.

I'm sorry for the delay---been a bit hectic lately.

In the boxed(but not on the pallet) it is about 140-145 pounds.
