Hey all Happy October!

Not sure how active I'll be able to be but will do my best. No idea what I'm watching tonight, depends on what is free and new on ATT onDemand I guess! I have Raze from nf on disc at home and will likely watch that tomorrow or Friday. Awesome start already folks!

I probably won't be trying to watch 31 horror movies this month because as I've mentioned before I probably watch 310 horror movies a year! This has also become topic for horror fans. Besides as someone just mentioned just watch the evening news for an apocalyptic horror show.

And I see Netflix WI added a couple more recent horror titles today.

Good to see many 'Fiends' returning to the thread!

Ok, I barely snuck in a double-alien abduction-feature!

#2 Almost Human (2013) Netflix streaming HD, FTV. Ok I knew I would hit a dud somewhere and this was it imo! I like this genre but this movie just didn't cut the mustard. The movie starts out with a guy telling a friend his buddy was taken by a blue beam of light while driving on a road in Maine. Other than the screaming/squeaking alien noise the humans make, this movie didn't bring in the creep. So this guy's 'buddy' shows up two years later in a forest. Then he starts killing people....some blood and some ok gore. But I was waiting for the 'alien mystery' conclusion, but there was none. Film would have been better being a straight up slasher flick. 1 Maine forest Zombie.

#3 Alien Abduction (2014) Netflix streaming HD, FTV. After that bomb I was going to give up and go do some yard work. But I saw the cover of the next movie in my WI and said, "Why not!" Alien Abduction is a shaky cam, fauxmentary that strange/frightening stuff happens to a family, all this recorded by their autistic son. This movie did bring the creep and I remember reading about these strange lights in North Carolina, so I was already buying the story. This movie has several thought out parts, mainly in the beginning and the end. My only 'gripe' was I wish the acting was more candid like VHS2 Alien Abduction or Skin Walker Ranch. That was it though, so if you like shaky cam and this Alien genre, give this a rent or watch. 3 Lighted Zombies

Edit: I also noticed a ton of Horror BD's went on sale at Amazon today!

Haven't made it through one of these marathons yet, but started with an Egyptian theme...

1. Feature: The Mummy (1932) with Boris Karloff on BD. Toons: "Scooby-Doo and a Mummy, Too!" & "Jonny Quest: The Curse of Anubis" on DVD.

I don't know how I'll do 31 with my kid so much this month, but I got off to a start and have a group over for

1. Return of the Living Dead.
Probably two or three years since I last watched, not sure how it could have even gotten cheesier in that time frame but it did. I still love it though. Spent a lot of time watching little easter egg jokes in the background this viewing.

1. The Den - Decent movie, definitely worth one watch but after that you know the ending.
2. Devil's Pass - Not bad, although some annoying/stupid characters make it less of a movie than it could have been.

Both NF streaming.

2014 Horrorfest

1. Intruder. Very good low budget slasher that I never knew existed until a few years ago.
2. Outbreak. Exactly what I needed given the current state of affairs. It's all 90's.
3. Dark Skies. I think this gets better each time I watch it. The family's descent into terror is perfectly paced and there's no hope in the end. Dark Skies indeed.
4. Rocky Horror Picture Show. This is pretty fun and light. Susan Sarandon is gorgeous.
5. The Wraith. I love this movie and the soundtrack is awesome. The movie does not hold up to any real scrutiny and that's just fine by me. Full of cool car chases and weirdness.
6. PMS Cop. Fantastic first time view. Lady cop gets in on a drug trial to reduce PMS grumpiness and becomes a cybernetic killing machine.
7. Afflicted. FTV. Pretty fantastic flick. Shakycam documentary style travel blog follows two blokes on a world hopping trip. One gets afflicted and strange things go afoot. It's a fairly white knuckle ride that blends Chronicle with terror. Probably my favorite new horror in a while but I'm not sure if it's a repeat performer.
8. Cannibal aka White Cannibal Queen. FTV. Pure trash. Pure cheese. Years after a family is attacked by cannibals the father goes back for his abducted daughter who is now the White Cannibal Queen. Most of the tribal lines are "ooga booga walla walla WHITE GODDESS booga booga waaaa." The dub is terrible fun.

I just stumbled on this thread and glad I did. I've been thinking of doing something like this for a couple years and never got around to it. It's nice to get some recommendations for new horror movies or some you may have let slip through the cracks over the years. I'm definitely going to try to get as many in as I can this month.

10/1

1. Ghoulies (1984) - As Charles Barkley would say: this movie was "TURRIBLE" & not in a cheesy good way. Too much random sh*t and you hardly see the little Ghoulie creatures. Almost fell asleep before the toilet money shot. "D" for Dumb.

10/2

2. Event Horizon (1997) As yankeeman mentioned, it’s hard not to think about the footage left on the cutting room floor and what it could have been (thanks Kenobi!). All those flashes of gnarly Hellraiseresque imagery was such a tease. Pretty good but I wanted moar. Glad to finally cross this one off the list! C+

10/3

3. Bucket of Blood (1959) A frustrated and talentless artist finds acclaim for a plaster covered dead cat that is mistaken as a skillful statuette. Soon the desire for more praise leads to an increasingly deadly series of works. Stars Dick Miller aka “crazy neighbor from Gremlins” and directed by Roger Corman. It’s a hoot. Really liked this one! A-

10/4 No Movie – NJ Zombie Walk

10/5

4. Haute Tension (2003) The greatest 60 minutes of horror since Halloween. A shame it’s 90 minutes long. Repeat viewings of HT play with my emotions. More enjoyable because you can brace for the epic fail and it won’t sting as much. But also VERY frustrating because you notice all of the inconsistencies that fill the canyon of a plot hole. Why hasn’t some super-fan done a re-edit and posted on youtube yet? B

10/6

5. Flatliners (1990) Not much character development with this all-star cast but who needs it. Keifer, Julia, Bacon, a Baldwin & Oliver Platt show us the problems of zombieism without the hunger for brains, body rot & shuffling around. Cool photography & score. B-

This is my first year participating in this. Been trying to keep up with the posts in here but it moves fast.

Is it a requirement that I rate and review the movies I watch? I'd just like to watch as many horror movies as I can take and have an awesome October.

In any case....my lady and I watched From Dusk Til Dawn as the first movie for the month. Not my first viewing. I've seen it dozens of times but it was her first. Told me "I liked it. Good pick!" when the credits rolled.

Damn right.

3- Afflicted – 2013 FTV.

This was one I was interested in from the trailers. The premise was cool and they did some nice things with what had to be a miniscule, found footage like budget. But, when the crapola hits the fan it never seemed too horrific. Lack of acting ability, budget, whatever, there just wasn't enough impact for what was going on. Just shows how hard it is to do a convincing horror flic as this felt very amateurish the whole way, even though they had some nice shooting locations.

This movie has-

Pig abuse

Little gore

A lot of talking

2 One night stand regretting Zombies

I usually don't review movies that have been recently discussed in this thread unless I totally disagree with previous reviews.

You're lucky to have a lady like that. My ex-wife wouldn't even sit through Jurassic Park with me.
From Dusk Till Dawn is one of my favorites but I must admit I'm really into snake dancers. Especially that snake dancer.

Is it a requirement that I rate and review the movies I watch? I'd just like to watch as many horror movies as I can take and have an awesome October.

Damn right.
Welcome! I'd just ask if you stumble across any gems that we may have missed to share

@Scott Simonian , since you have uber subs you can give Frankensteins Army a spin! You won't be disappointed with the bass!

Thanks guys!
@BornSlippyZ I've heard quite a bit of FA and it's enormous amounts of bass. But it looks like I'd have to buy it? It was mentioned earlier that the streaming version has mediocre sound.

@Ken.F Thanks. She is quite a catch. I am lucky. And yes, everybody loves some good Salma. Including me.

@General Kenobi Will do! Doubt I will be watching anything that you guys haven't. Some very obscure titles in here. I mostly watch the mainstream stuff. Never been a huge horror fan, honestly but I have a huge taste for it right now and want to fully absorb the October/Halloween season.
