Poltergeist (2015) - I enjoyed this one. I like the original better but this one still kept me entertained. 3-1/2 attic squirrels.

Tales of Halloween - A good anthology of Halloween stories. I wasn't expecting this to be as bloody as it was; nice surprise! I know a lot of you guys have seen this already, but if you haven't go ahead and check it out.

29. The Atticus Institute (FTV)
Faux documentary about 1970's government funded psychic research team that discovers a possessed woman and ultimately attempts to exploit her powers. If you lived through the 70's you might remember seeing grainy footage of supposed "actual psychic phenomena" on shows like "In Search Of", where people made matchsticks move and bent spoons with the powers of their minds. This fake documentary asks you to suppose that was real, and what would happen if the government attempted to control a demonic entity inside a person. It's a potentially interesting idea, but the execution here is only average. It's a shame because there are a few good actors here but they are given silly things to say and do. Never quite convinces.

3 out of 5 stars.

TOTALLY agree, and we watched it last night, too! From what I understand, Paramount's Blu-ray transfer doesn't look all that great, so I didn't double dip on this title, as my Blu-ray player does a great job upconverting the standard DVD (and the disc's Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is pretty loud, if a bit front-heavy).

May have to scoop up that Haunted Mansion soundtrack as well. Always good to have more material. With regard to Sleepy Hollow........I have the HD DVD. PQ is inconsistent but definitely better than DVD. IMO though, like you said, not worth double dipping.

30-The Descent UNRATED 2005. Finally purchased the Unrated cut after having only seen the U.S. "R" version. I like this version as it does add some ambiguity to what REALLY happened in the cave. Been a while since I have seen this. It is a brutally, fun movie! I never realized this was written by Neil Marshall as well. Too bad there are not more movies as well made as this. 5 bloody pick axes

This movie has-
5 gung ho chicks
Some deadly pipe
Not my idea of a vacation
An ambiguous ending

"Mimesis" was last night's film. It's about a bunch of folks who go to a Halloween party and wake up the next morning to find themselves in a classic horror movie. Interesting idea but not that well executed. Three tombstones.

Well, I see we're not alone on that opinion. Folks really ripped "The Cutting Room" apart over at IMDB.

I've reserved the BD of "Poltergeist" for tonight.

Kruel (2015) - This one was just OK. The acting was a little stiff but it kept me interested. 2-1/2 creepy iguana hand puppets.

I got 31 movies watched with a couple of nights to spare. I watched a lot more of the older stuff this year but I also watched 6 movies from 2015. I didn't plan to do it but I noticed that I watched at least one movie from each of the last 9 decades.
Spoiler!

Awesome list (I snipped it to save space, sorry)...I simply cannot believe we are at the end of the month already! It seems like October 1st was only just yesterday and that I was watching The Return of the Living Dead and Dracula Untold. I still have one last movie to watch on Halloween night, but this year I think I will have watched 36 movies in the month of October in total once all is said and done. A good run for sure! I definitely had a lot of fun.

Grimm returns tonight (Friday), if you are not recording it, it should be up on legal streaming sites as early as 2am Sat PDT-5am EDT. Watch if you can, remember what NBC did to Constantine.

My wife's a Scream fan, and I stumbled upon a Double Feature pack from Miramax at Target today which contains two separate DVDs of Scream and Scream 2; ironically, I cannot find ANY information about this release online nor any cover art...it's almost like this double set doesn't exist...

We're also gonna do the immortal classic:

Cure - 3.5/5 - The concept was incredibly intriguing but too many "slow" moments. Still worth watching at least once IMO.

Poltergeist 3D - 3.5/5 - I must admit, it was really fun to watch since it was in 3D. We enjoyed it overall, but first one is MUCH better. One time watch type of thing.

Creature from the Black Lagoon 3D (1954) - 4.5/5 - I loved this. No CGI back then... pure story/plot. Plus Julie Adams was really nice to look at. :c)

House of Wax 3D (1953) - 4/5 - I enjoyed the story/concept and it had some amazing pop out 3D effects.

Monster House 3D - 3.3/5 - Pleasant 3D effects and really took advantage of my sub. It kind of reminded me of my favorite childhood TV movie called "The Halloween Tree".

Started slacking towards the end of October due to work. But since we started in September I do not feel bad. I will save the list of the unwatched ones for throughout the year.

Happy Halloween everyone! Was another fun year!

Playing catch up with the latest flicks.

19. The Seduction of Dr. Fugazzi (2009)- {1.5/5} DVD (FTV) I'll give this a tiny amount of credit for trying to be interesting, but in the end, this thing was not worth the time . Worst movie I've seen so far. Surprisingly enough, Faye Dunaway has a supporting role. Not sure how that agreement was made. First impression was that the main actress was sexy, but as it went on, her antics grew tiresome. Its amazing that I finished this whole thing.

20. The Loved Ones (2009)- {4.25/5} DVD This is my second time with this one and I honestly think it was more enjoyable this time around. Just an all-around great movie. Robin McLeavy does an excellent job in the lead role. Highly recommended for those that haven't seen it yet.

21. Children of the Corn (1984)- {3/5} Netflix Streaming This one is hit and miss. It starts out strong when the overall storyline unfolds, but there were several instances during the movie that pulled me out of the mood. Malachai is easily one of the ugliest characters in history but I still enjoyed what he brought to the table. Same with Isaac...even though that dude was like 25 when the movie was made. Some genuinely creepy moments mixed with horrible dialog and an atrocious ending. Overall though, I definitely didn't hate it and it was a fun watch.

22. Honeymoon (2014)- {3.25/5} Netflix Streaming (FTV) If I recall, folks were critical of this movie earlier in the year. And even though I would agree that it has its flaws, I mostly enjoyed it. In the beginning, I considered oinking the sh$t outta this because the featured couple were unbelievably annoying. But I stuck with it, and it turned out to be a pretty good watch. It vaguely reminded me of Antichrist in certain parts, but this one produced a fairly original story that I appreciated. Basically 2 actors carry the entire story....for better or for worse. Its worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

23. Extraterrestrial (2014)- {3.75/5} Netflix Streaming (FTV) I have to be honest here and admit that I was pretty drunk when I watched this. From what I remember though, my wife and I thought it was really well done. Acting was adequate.....story was interesting.....and it had a nice crescendo up to the final scene. Recommended.

24. Spring (2014)- {3.5/5} BD (FTV) This one was sort of strange to me. I recall positive reviews but I avoided reading any specific info and did not watch the trailer prior to watching it in my home. Overall, this is definitely a good movie......even if you subtract the horror element, it would still be an enjoyable watch. But considering the context of this thread and what I want in a movie during October...... there was maybe a little too much "love" going 'round. The cinematography was stunning, the acting was good and the effects were better than expected. I guess I was hoping for a little more horror and that is the reason for a slightly lower rating. Regardless of my feelings about it, I would (and will) recommend it to others.

25. Sleepy Hollow (1999)- {4.5/5} HD DVD I've watched this for Horrorfest on other occasions and I don't recall what I rated it. But in this instance....only days away from Halloween......it was a perfect choice. Aside from some robotic scenes from Ricci (don't get me wrong......I love her in most things) this movie is extremely well done. Bottom line...... it epitomizes Halloween. My favorite Burton movie.

26. Poltergeist (2015)- {2.25/5} BD (FTV) First half of a double feature and a FTV for everyone that came over to watch it. Like most others, I was disappointed when it was all said and done. I believe Darth said it earlier.....and I agree. Why not just make a new installment instead of making a half-assed effort at a "remake"? I just couldn't get into this. As much as I like Sam Rockwell in other movies, he was horribly miscast in this. There was no sense of peril from the family (at least not in a believable way) and I think the acting, along with the fact that the story is outdated, just didn't incite the same emotional reaction as it did back when technology was more primitive......In the end, this was a pretty lackluster effort. The soundtrack was enjoyable though and I think my guests still enjoyed themselves because of the overall HT presentation.....but this was definitely a one-time watch for me.

27. Dark Skies (2013)- {4.25/5} BD Rating is bumped up slightly from my last watch. Probably because we watched it at the back end of a double feature with Poltergeist. This was the FTV of the year for me a couple years ago and it still holds its value even though I knew what was going to happen. I've recommended it to a number of folks in the past and everyone has loved it. Great flick!

Well, Happy Halloween fellas!! We have a triple feature planned for tonight after all the other festivities have been completed. And since I'm strangely committed to watching 31.....I'll be extending the Halloween spirit through the weekend. Have fun tonight people......and try not to get as drunk as I'm gonna get.

Here's my wrap up so far. I got a little burned out for a minute there, but then got going again. These go back about a week or so. Managed to hit 31 last night, and plan on watching Trick 'r Treat tonight after the kids are in bed.

24. From a Whisper to a Scream (1987) FTV

This was discussed not too far back in the thread. I agree with the comments. It was so-so, but didn't really stand out. I think I fell asleep during the final portion, because I can't remember it now.

25. Night of the Comet (1984) FTV

This was a pretty good horror parody. It was more based on '50s sci-fi movies. A comet causes all the humans on earth turn to dust, other than a handful of survivors and partial survivors (who become zombies). There wasn't a lot of payoff with this movie.

26. House of 1000 Corpses (2003) FTV

Decided to amp things up a bit, heading into the end of the month. I was really impressed with this movie. The atmosphere was phenomenal, and I give Rob Zombie a lot of credit for his unique vision.

27. House of the Devil (2009) FTV

I appreciate the throwback style, and the long, slow burn. I wish that some of the discoveries that unfolded had greater consequence.

28. Howling II:...Your Sister is a Werewolf (1985) FTV

Wow....Not sure if this was able to cross over into so-bad-it's-good territory, or just remain in the super-awful category. This really seemed like it was supposed to be a vampire movie. Also, the little snort snarls the actors let out when they were being "feral" was almost unbelievable. The level of commitment they had for playing it serious was impressive, especially during the many ridiculous wolf-orgies. It has Christopher Lee.

29. In the Mouth of Madness (1994) FTV

Lovecraftian horror, complete with tentacles. Carpenter did a good job of depicting dread and disorientation in this movie.

30. [REC] (2007) FTV

I think this movie is well-regarded here, I don’t have anything new to add to what’s already been discussed.

31. You're Next (2011) FTV

I feel like I remember reading mixed reviews about this one, but I'm not really sure what's not to like about it. It turned into a dark comedy after playing straight for the first part, but it wasn't a dramatic shift in tone (for example, I think Rare Exports got too goofy at the end, and it detracted from the movie). This was really visceral and well done. I read that the director of this movie is part of a group of up-and-comers that includes Ti West. I personally thought this movie had more tension, escalation and payoff than House of the Devil.
