Proxy(2013)I was hesitant in commenting about this film . (Warning): There is extreme violence to a pregnant woman in the opening scene. There you have been (Warned) . Now watch this crazy abstract film. This film is fantastically out there. Every main character is crazy and suffers from narcissism . "No wonder I like it so much". Birds of a feather. The whole narrative gave me a David Lynch vibe. This horror mystery hard to ignore. On HULU.

Proxy
The life of three parents who have all shared the loss of a child. Motives are not what they seem and sanity is in short supply in this thriller.

10. Terrifier (FTV)

It's Halloween night in New York city and a mime-like clown is on the loose, killing and, well, terrifying people. This movie was a lot of fun, and felt like a movie that could have been made during the slasher era of the 80's. However, they don't beat us over the head with nostalgic nods or wink at us, it just has that sorta gritty John Carpenter Escape from New York feel to it. I liked that the clown was done as a mime act, making exaggerated facial expressions to convey his emotions, mocking his victims or at times just generally making people uncomfortable. Silence is scarier than words, and so many of these scenes are dialogue free to great effect.

The violence is quick and savage and the blood plentiful, but this never feels like torture to watch; it's genuinely entertaining. There's a bit of a intro/wraparound sequence that feels like extra padding but it does enable a quick shock to start and end the proceedings. I'd be interested to see what this filmmaker does on future projects when hopefully a larger budget lets him breathe a little and expand the scope of the settings and visuals.

3 out of 5 stars.

I was planning to watch First Man this weekend in IMAX with Laser but it turns out the movie is not getting released this weekend here. Boo! Getting released next weekend alongside Halloween (2018). Guess I'll watching two movies at the theater next weekend.

Doppelganger (1993)

A woman with a split personality is suspected of murder. A good story with an unnecessarily bizarre ending.

I watch Island of Terror last night a classic from the 60's staring Peter Cushing. The new BD of this is just perfect' For a old movie the Quality is top notch' I heard they found a excellent copy of the film to use. Very Hammer like movie. I have not seen this since I was like 13 years old and it scared me then and I have waited so long to get this. For years you could not get here. So after 47 years I got to see it again and it still is creepy and the acting is top shelve. Starting a Friday the 13th marathon today.

Night Eleven.

Bridge to Nowhere. 4 teens and a 5th wheel venture out into the New Zealand wilds for some camping and drinking. 3 of the teens are jerks and one them is a right bastard, the 5th is mostly a decent dude. The right bastard manages to cross a mountain farmer and winds up dead, he then proceeds to hunt the rest down. Not a fully terrible survival flick. Damn shame what they did to that dog.

INFERNO OF TORTURE. Sounds better than it was. Older movie, Asian with subtitles. Not much torture in this, a little, but more its a film about tatooing the backs of women and mainly showing their bare breasts in about 2/3 of the scenes. Should be called Inferno of Breasts!! Weak on plot, the tatoos are not great, but strong on breasts.

'ANTIHUMAN'
Hulu

Time is the center of this films focus . It is very dialog heavy and hard to hear . So one must really pay attention . The music is good. This film this slow and lot of dialog . Abstract and thought inducing . Most viewers will not make it to the end as moves at a sails pace but I found it mesmerizing . And the 'good looking' four females characters helped to make it to the end of the film.

It's on my list and thanks for the warning of a filmmaker who fell asleep in film school and missed the first rule of film: "show don't tell".

"The Haunting of Hill House" series is now available on Netflix.

I finished "Still", a popular Thai horror anthology on Netflix, which still had the drop frame on the Sony UHD x700. I may run it on a browser to see what the frame rate is (select inspect element). Sometimes this happens going from 25 to 30 fps which may be the problem. There are other ways of doing this.

11. Murder Party (FTV)

A lonely guy finds an invitation to a Halloween costume party laying on the sidewalk and decides to go--bad idea. Murder Party is a black horror comedy that pokes fun at artists, bohemian types, posers and trust fund babies. Necessarily that means it's populated with annoying and pathetic characters, so your enjoyment of the film depends on your tolerance for that sort of person, but since we're laughing at them, it's mostly okay. The middle part of the film sags somewhat as we get caught up in drug-addled discussions about nothing, and this feels like padding to get the film to feature length. But really I think that part was more of a variant on the "weird family dinner" scene we've seen in movies like Texas Chainsaw massacre. The ending is when the gloves really come off and lots of blood flows, so stick with it! An original.

3 out of 5 stars.

Night Twelve.

Aterrados aka Terrified. Event Horizon in a suburb. This is a good one. Brutal paranormal happenings, a police led paranormal research crew, zombies, monsters under the bed, it's pretty great stuff. One of the stronger films this month.

12 days in and only 17 films, 14 are FTVs. Way down from previous years. I enjoy the new posters here this year but the question remains, will they hang the other 11 months?

I hear ya there. I was off to a terrific start this October but then had the wind taken out of my sails due to the Thanksgiving long weekend last week, then last night I had a belated get-together with some relatives and then tonight I have a different function to attend. But hopefully starting Sunday night, I should be back on track for the rest of the month. So far I have watched 13 movies this month which for me is fairly average by this point of the month. I think my lowest total for any October since I started doing the month-long marathon is around 25 films but I peaked a few years ago at about 47.

Judas Ghost (2013) - A team of paranormal investigators go on what they believe to be a routine assignment which turns out to be anything but and they end up being trapped. This film had something of a hokey overall feel to it but it was also occasionally creepy and effective too. The Judas Ghost himself wasn't all that bad either. This was okay as a whole, definitely not the best but certainly not the worst either, the potential for a good movie was here. It ends up being slightly less than average. 2 out of 5.

Where I live, fall has all but disappeared. This has been the case the past few years. We basically go from summer to winter, with a random collection of 50 degree days sprinkled in between. Today, we have a high of 41 and it looks like rain and wind are in the forecast as well.

But....the show must go on. So, I'm bundling up today and starting my yard décor. There are a lot of elements to it, so I don't expect to finish this weekend, but I'll be sure to post pics as things are completed. I have one particular prop build this year that I think the group will enjoy

Dark Water (2005) DVD
With a haunting mystery at its core, DARK WATER is a thoroughly absorbing, suspense-filled thriller . Dahlia Williams (Connelly) and her five-year-old daughter are ready to begin a new life together.

Overall Dark Water gets a 10/10 because this movie has a completely different feel. A Drama Psychological Thriller mixed with Horror Elements plus Jennifer Connelly's performance in the movie makes it even better and she also brings the film to life with her stunning performance that can interest any audience.

STITCHES - dark horror comedy movie about a clown who comes back from the dead 6 years later to avenge the kids who were at the party who abused him. Some great innovative kills here, but done in a comedy vein and not the most realistic effects. If you like the comedy horror genre you should appreciate this movie, for me I would have liked it better as a more horrific movie without the humorous vibe to it and with having more realistic special effects.

It's chilled out a bit here in the SF Bay Area which a low of 52 to highs in the 80s. Quite a range. And we have microclimates at that so the temp where I live can be cooler than at the waterfront.

For those with Shudder "Terrified" a Argentine horror film is a real winner! Four water bottles.

For tonight I have "The First Purge" from the box on BD.

I would be watching Shudder via my Apple TV 4K on a Sony XBR Z9D UHD HDR TV Thank you .
People get ticked on AVS Forum when I say this but being a software developer and familiar with how streaming works I wouldn't be surprised at all if some of the streaming services are already "unofficially" testing 4K streams. It's very easy especially using DASH (Digital Adaptive Streaming over HTML). What happens when you select a title is the streaming service parses what resolutions your display can handle, what it can decode and what bitrate you broadband service supports. If they want to test they could just stream the 4K file to you. Bandwidth required is often only about twice what an h264 stream would require for 1080p given new codecs.

Your problem would be with Apple TV because Apple doesn't support Google's VP9 which would be the choice for services (like Hulu) because there is no royalty fee for using as there is for HEVC. IOW, corporate wars. Streaming 4K to a Roku device or Roku 4K TV is easy as they support both VP9 and HEVC but not h264 for 4K. They already support 5.1 vorbis audio too which is the default audio codec with VP9.

12. Dig Two Graves (FTV)

When a teenage girl's older brother dies diving into the quarry water, a mysterious man with a tall hat who lives in the woods offers a way to bring him back to life--for a price. This is quiet horror of a "dark mystery" sort, it's incredibly atmospheric and moody, meditative and shows its story rather than tells it. Nearly every shot is meticulously and beautifully composed, but it's not just good-looking: the characters seem to really live and breathe rather than just act for us. Fans of fast-paced and funny visceral horror may grow impatient, but the silences make the intense moments all the more effective. If you like dark small-town histories, seeing the stories of the past and present intersect and repeat, and not just "good" and "bad" but hard choices and consequences, you will love Dig Two Graves.

4 out of 5 stars.
