Slave Girls from Beyond Infinity (1987) - FTV - streamed free on Tubi

I needed a break from the serious stuff. So watched this little ditty last night.

Pure schlock. Some nice bits of skin, here and there. Some "cool" robots and mutants, all practical (CG existed in '87, but was pretty elementary). Nice stereo score. It's remarkable what some producers can accomplish with a miniscule budget. Recommended for 18+ viewers with low standards, and alot of spare time on their hands.

Great poster! I only wish the movie was as good.

Some interesting trivia about the above from Wikipedia, which I did not know prior to watching it...

Quote:
Slave Girls from Beyond Infinity was specifically criticized on the floor of the U.S. Senate by Jesse Helms (R-North Carolina) in 1992.[4] Senator Helms cited a case in which some of his constituents had accidentally stumbled onto the movie while flipping through cable channels as justification for amendments to the Cable Act of 1992. Helms wanted to force cable operators to block “indecent” programming unless customers specifically asked for it in writing. The amendment was struck down by a U.S, Federal Court in 1993 and the decision was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1996.

The Covenant (2006) - streamed free on Crackle

This seemed vaguely familiar to me, so I may have caught it on cable once some time ago. This is clearly intended for somewhat younger viewers. The Vampire Diaries gen. If you fall into that category (and are female?), you may like it. For me, it was sort of a snoozer.

The storyline frankly didn't make much sense to me. So I won't both trying to summarize it, except to say that it involves a number of young studs, and witchcraft... And CG FX, some of which are ok. But alot of which are just kinda silly and pointless (imho).

The film is well-produced visually and sonically, fwtw. Though the Crackle transfer was not perfect.

Wes Craven's Dracula II: Ascension (2003, DTV) - FTV - streamed free on Tubi

This started pretty well, but then kinda went into the dumpster once we actually meet "Big D", who looks like a Billy Idol clone in this. A missed opportunity, that might've been more interesting with a little better script, and maybe some slightly different casting. Diane Neal of "Law & Order: SVU" and "NCIS" was fairly cute though back in '03 when this was made. And Jason Lee did ok in this.

A better take on this theme = Carpenter's 1987 Prince of Darkness.

Speaking of SyFy, back when it was Sci Fi they has a mini-series called "The Lost Room" it's running on Tubi if you haven't seen it. I've got it on DVD, back from the era of "What do mean it's not on HD-DVD/Blu ray"

Slave Girls from Beyond Infinity (1987) 9 / 10 Thanks @ADU ! On TUBI you must search 'Slave Girls from Beyond' to find title.

How did 'The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' miss this classic almost perfect B movie bimbo gem ? Combine scantily clad women and men, some nudity, robots, space ships, lasers, monsters, a jungle planet ,hilarious acting, exploitative beyond belief, terrible dialogue and acting. Slave Girls From Beyond Infinity is sure to rank up there with fans of the low budget film genre. If you like a good bad movie, you're in luck. It is awesome !!

Nice review, Rob.

There should be an award for best schlock. "The Schlocky". Some other possible candidates...

Time Walker (1982, aka Being from Another Planet)

Starcrash (1979)

The Werewolf of Washington (1973)

The Werewolf of Washington is pretty schlocky but Starcrash has to be the winner out of these.

They had found that colleges weren't graduating anyone with those skills. The guy from Warner Brothers found two grads one year.

I was not surprised as I suspected that most college art teachers were afraid of computers in general let alone knew anything at all about 3D graphics. Asking the 3D artists at work about it (most learned on their own) they thought the CG stuff was boring to do, no creativity involved. The solution was to use CAD people to do it since they were used to implementing defined objects using CAD software (some of it pretty bad).

P2 (2007) 8 /10............ Rachel Nichols , Rachel Nichols , Rachel Nichols . Free on TUBI

A businesswoman (Rachel Nichols) SyFy's Continuum ; is pursued by a psychopath (Wes Bentley) after being locked in a parking garage on Christmas Eve.

I will admit I sought this film out for female protagonist (Rachel Nicholls) who conveys an excellent performance. Nicholls doesn't do any of the stupid stuff that the scream queens usually do; there's no heading into dark and gloomy places with no explanation here. Just a terrified woman desperately trying to get out of an increasingly horrifying situation.
It's not without it's flaws, that's for sure, but we don't watch movies like this because we want anything deep.
This is compellingly grim, suspenseful, and atmospheric stuff that should provide an effective antidote for movie lovers looking for something darker than the more traditional, upbeat Christmas fare.

Question for the more game savvy here. Is it possible to connect a PS4 to an older (2009) iMac? I realize I'll need an HDMI to USB cable. But besides that is it even feasible?

Hi guys! Speaking of PS4 I just finished the story mode for Red Dead Redemption 2 and it is a worthy purchase game! Next to Horizon Zero Dawn, this is the next best game I played! The game is toned down from GTA5 (explicate stuff) but has enough blood and a little gore for flavor.

Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death (1989) 8 /10

Free on TUBI in (HD) 16:9 or paid Prime Video 480i SD 4:3 go figure that one out .

In the dark unexplored Avocado jungles of Southern California, A sexy feminist professor (Shannon Tweed) must venture deep inside to convince the Piranha women (i.e. cannibal women) to leave their homes for lovely Condos in Malibu. I'm not making this up. (Bill Maher) was damn funny as Jim ; and (Karen Mistal) who played sexy Bunny was hilarious. Adrienne Barbeau's radical feminist role is excellent too. Perms, pastels and shoulder padded blazers, the usual attire of the wondrous 80s. One of those exploitation-spoof flicks that actually makes you laugh wholeheartedly. One of the best bad movies around !

The solution was to use CAD people to do it since they were used to implementing defined objects using CAD software (some of it pretty bad).
Hollywood is terrible at recruiting people with actual talent.

There's an excellent open-source CG program that can be DL'd here btw...

https://www.blender.org/

I've used many CG programs, and it isn't very easy stuff to learn. Probably the quickest way to get up to speed is to do the tutorials. And ask alot of questions on the support/user forums.

I was tempted by this as well. But resisted. Maybe I'll have to give it a try.

There's another video, where they didn't find lag a problem. Experiment is all you can do.

The guy from Warner Brothers was a high school teacher they hired who had taught 3D graphics in schools in Los Angeles. He knew CG well.

Blender is like many CG programs is the product of a bunch of programmers who like to program 3D graphics but not understand an artist's workflow. Same with iClone (which still crashes a lot).

I finally got the Blender SensSei plugin which makes it usable and the author has great tutorials.

After finishing season one of "Killing Eve" on Hulu I watched the first half of "Christmas Evil" (aka "You Better Watch Out") from 1980 which co-stars Jeffery DeMunn. Available on Shudder.

"Killing Eve" is great and if you don't have Hulu available for "buy" elsewhere. Was on BBC America for those who haven't cut the cable.
