The concept is interesting, but it fails to deliver, and the final result is not as satisfying as it could have been, IMO.

The idea of Shirley Temple doing Kipling as directed by John Ford makes my head spin.

I can't critique her performance; her acting style has been so lampooned (remember Carol Burnett's treatment?) that it is hard to see her clearly.

Graham Greene wrote that the filmmakers were sexualizing a 9-year-old. For this his publisher paid a hefty libel judgment (in the UK; libel is harder to prove in the US). See the wikipedia for more.

Ford favorite Victor McLaglen is always fun.

The DVD is a flipper with B&W on one side and a tinted (not colorized) image on the other.
