We have had a "policeman" motif this week. That's what inspired my puzzler.

"A stupid policeman, whose luck has run out." In your case, the luck is with you. Yes, Dr Julius No insults the debonaire and resourceful secret agent James Bond is his first big screen outing by referring to him as a "stupid policeman." I utter that repeatedly when watching my least favorite Bond films.

Book or movie? Been a few years since I read the former. My memory is kind of limited to that dune buggy "dragon" wagon, Honey Ryder emerging from the surf nude, and her broken nose. Oh, and that horrific torture tube.

Carrie Fisher, age 19 in her film debut. In that scene she's trying out her mother's boyfriend.

Review: Shampoo (1975).

The film is Mrs. Miniver. A German airman has found his way into Mrs. Miniver's home, though he's in no shape to put up much of a struggle. If I remember correctly, it was made before the U.S. had entered the war.

Correct! That is Helmut Dantine menacing Greer Garson. His first credited role. He had been an anti-nazi activist and was in a concentration camp for a while so of course Hollywood put him to work as a professional bad guy.

Compare this with Wyler's own "coming home" picture: The Best Years of Our Lives (1946). It was a long war.

Review: Mrs. Miniver (1942).

Yep. A deeply flawed film that still manages to hold my interest. The restoration is pretty good.

Most of those old submarine movies look similar but I recognized the good luck poster immediately.
