Aforementioned daughters really liked Enchanted. It's pretty good, a mostly live-action send up of Disney Princess cliches complete with ridiculous musical numbers. Amy Adams and a bunch of recognizable dudes.

It is pretty good but didn't hold my daughter for long. She's just about four and not quite ready for it. Speaking of live action stuff Earth to Echo was pretty rad and had nice bass.

We caught Home today with the wee one. I hesitate to say mixed bag but I mean it in a good way. I'm no fan of Sheldon Cooper of Big Bang Theory fame so I was reluctant going in but it really helps that you don't see him in this. It's a neat little sci fi movie that dabbles in action adventure and comedy. The human lead, Tip (Rihanna), is great. There's a little bit of everything in it which might hurt it for some but I still enjoyed it. Perhaps the biggest weakness was the use of like 87 Rihanna songs, not that they are bad, many in fact are quite good but there are a LOT of them.

Fresh back from seeing Inside Out which was a little disappointing but still a fair movie and more than ok for the family to see together. The teasers were for a movie called Zootopia from the Big Hero 6 crew and the guaranteed tear jerker Max.

Underdogs was previewed before our showing of Minions, which was a lot of fun. Seeing all the kids laugh at their jokes was a big part of it. Underdogs looks like it will be getting a pass from us though. Secret Life of Pets OTOH looks funny and is from the Minion crew.

Fired up The Last Unicorn and the kid loved it. It was my second viewing with the first being in the 80's. Really cool music and the story is damn good too. Voice cast was epic. We need more sword and sorcery flicks.

Recently the kid has been into Jake and the Neverland Pirates, a spinoff of Disney's Peter Pan, pretty decent show fwiw. Good music also. At any rate, Peter Pan is pretty popular in our house and we are excited to go see Pan but leading up to this we "discovered" Peter Pan a couple months ago. It's a fantastic movie easily besting Hook (which we like). It was released against Harry Potter so got pushed into obscurity but is worth a watch for the kids. Great effects (not complete CG and great conventional ones) and a tight narrative that more fairly represents the book when put against the Disney version. If you get a chance check it out.

Just got through with Pan and it's pretty good. Really fun and action packed. It's hard to compare it to other fantasy action movies because there aren't many like it. It's not trying to be all edgy and dark, it doesn't have to. It's Neverland and it stays within those confines. No objectionable language or violence make it ok for just about any age over 4 by my reckoning.

The child has discovered Star vs The Forces of Evil on the Disney XD channel. Quite entertaining show about Princess Star Butterfly, reminds me of Stephen Universe a little but geared for the younger set. Out of the 5 episodes I've seen the most objectionable thing was the use of the word "Earth Tard" and the Diaz family being a huge stereotype. Alas, it is a show with a strong female lead.

Peanuts is a delightful take on the classic television stories many were raised on. Fantastic art direction and audio to boot. I don't see it pulling in a ton of new fans with its misogyny, animal abuse, and lack of respect for dirty people but if you like a movie that defines wholesome family entertainment you might like this.

My Kids enjoyed Minions but truth to be told it killed me. The end bit was quite cool but that's it.

Zarafa. Beautifully animated and not a bad story either. Possibly has some subject matter some may find offensive (slavery and animal death) but I didn't have any problem with any of it. You're never to young to learn about humans being a**hats.

Just got back from seeing The Good Dinosaur and I'd place it with Up and Brave in terms of narrative with a solid focus on action adventure. It is absolutely gorgeous to look at, nothing in the trailers did it justice there. I also found it to be Pixar's most violent and bloody film to date. That's not say it's super bloody or violent but it is very honest in how it depicts the natural world. Overall I really enjoyed it and the 4 year old did as well, plenty of fun, action and the Pixar heart.

Kid found this on Netflix Instant and it's really quite good. Nice animation and really clean from any objectionable content. Netflix has a ton of very low grade kid shows and this is not one of them.

Pirates Passage, a Donald Sutherland vanity project, hits a lot boxes for the family that is burned out on everything being dark and gritty. It touches on bullies and a fair bit of history while being wrapped in a coming of age story. The animation has that Iron Giant feel to it.

We did PAN this weekend. My 10 year old enjoyed it. Even though it is boy based, with no girls she could relate to, she still got into it. It was a lot more tame than the reviews led me to believe.

RS600, 133" 2.8 HP Screen, Panasonic UB-900
Marantz, 7702MKII, Emotiva XPA-1, XPA-2, XPA-100's
7.2.4 with 4pi JBL LCR's, Athena 100 surrounds and 4x Volt 10lx ceiling speakers.
4x FI 18" IB subwoofage with Behringer EP400 amp
Fabric walls, fabric posters, fabric under soffets. No reflections!!

Yep, solid family flick all around. I would have liked to see more music numbers, they went in a weird direction and kind of left it.

Little one stumbled into this on Netflix and is enjoying it. It's a modern version of those Aesop Fables cartoons but with a Russian twist and their folklore. A blend of CG styles that bounces from familiar 3D to a storybook 2D style. Quite good and as a fan of fairy tales the Russian ones are interesting.

Dear child stumbled into Gravity Falls and is having a blast and I must say I enjoy it as well. Sort of an UltraLite-X Files meets coming of age, gnomes, dimensional travel, cursed objects, etc. The two leads (young boy and girl siblings) are hilarious and it's good they both get equal time.

The Princess and the Frog.

Not sure how I'm only now seeing this but it's great. Great music all over it. It's the first flick in a while that the kid has racked up multiple views on. It's cool to see a heavy American slant on it regarding the culture vs the other stuff being mostly European based. As a person of the south the accents are a bit over done but still very close, it sounds like people I know. Mama Odie could be my neighbor.

Quick shoutout to Zootopia as well. This one has a "timeless" story with a good message. It wasn't too preachy but you could argue that if it was it wouldn't hurt some people that needed to hear it. I've seen a few say it was all about Muslim people and their treatment but I'd disagree and say it included way more. That's a testament to a well made movie in that allows the viewer to project their heart onto the screen characters. So far this BH6, Wreck it Ralph, Frozen, Tangled crew is firing on all cylinders.

Watched The Good Dinosaur last night. It was pretty good. The dinosaurs stomping around must have kicked up some dust. I was feeling a bit verklempt towards the end. The animation was top notch Pixar.

It was a good film. Animation is getting better!! We watched The Ten Commandments today and the SFX my kids looked at me and laughed saying it was horrible, though they still enjoyed the movie.

Without hesitation, I recommend The Peanuts Movie for adults that grew up with the beloved property and for young children that may not know Snoopy and the gang quite yet. It's a sweet, simple, charming film made for children that hits all the familiar notes known to Peanuts' fans.

Watched the Ratchet and Clank movie last night. I've never been a big gamer, but have always enjoyed the Ratchet and Clank series. This movie does it justice. It's a pretty fun romp. Not sure how this did at the theater. Probably not well enough for a sequel, but I'd like to see more.
