Am I the only one that thought the movie kind of sucked?
Sure it's an average action flick but e.g. the 7.2 on IMDB is way overrated.

Most of the flick I was just waiting for a voice saying "headshot" in every 3 seconds or so

21:st century Karate Kid......Logon, Logoff, Logon, Logoff..

It's a more pure action movie, hence the love versus the CG stuff that's all over. Stellar fight choreography as well. Story wise it's been seen before but revenge flicks are getting rare.

Who doesn't like a good old fashioned shoot 'em up revenge flick anyway?
Righting a wrong thru violence is as American as apple pie.

Yeah, to further the point about action movies I read recently that the Wachowskis are to blame for the current state of action movies. The argument was The Matrix set the template for cgi heavy sci if.

I dunno if I would say they "are to blame..."
If so, then they were magnificently guilty in The Matrix.

Yeah, blame is strong but that's what the article said. If I can find it again I'll share it.

The trend in Hollywood was moving that way long before The Matrix. Big-budget movies had relied more and more on CGI steadily throughout the 1990s.

I don't mind pure action flicks it just got very boring after a while.
I'll be the first to applaud a non-over-the-top-CG movie but that was not the point.
Good choreography but ending it every single time in a headshot became IMO too repetitive.
Hence the video-game voice of "headshot" was all that was missing to make it a parody instead

I would give it a 5, tops.

I have the opposite opinion, I thought that by shooting just about everyone in the head it was being made abundantly clear what a focused bad ass this guy was, and why the other characters who knew about him were so worried.

I actually think it made it more realistic - how many movies have characters shoot, stab, or otherwise hurt someone, assume that person is dead, only to have that person turn out not to be dead? It's a cliché. Not John Wick, if he's gonna fight you he's gonna make sure you are dead, like a real killing machine would.

Favorite was in the night club, he pounded some guy's head onto a tall table, two shots for good measure, onto the next guys

Exactly! The rest of you are crazy. John Wick is a pure badass that doesn't waste time with typical action sequence BS. He takes you out, quick. Next!

Most action movies use up all their bullets on misses.

Worthy consideration, Tom Cruise in Collateral (love this movie). Double tap to the chest, one in the head. Moving on...

Headshot!

Double Kill!

-RAMPAGE-

John Wick is -DOMINATING-

If they actually had an announcer doing that, it may have even been better. Movie Voice Guy from Honest Trailers should do a dub. I'd check it out.

There was some SOF 2 mod where a chick would say - Somebody better get a body bag - in a real dry voice. Perfect for Wick.

Kill my dog (well, cat) and you'd wish I just shot you once in the head. My movie would be a combo horror/revenge, followed by 3 or 4 sequels...starting the same mofo.

This is certainly a solid example of a movie in the Revenge category...one of my favorite categories. I started a thread a decade ago listing the contenders of the species, and had a bunch of mentions. Too bad it is closed because there have been a bunch worthy of adding to that list in the last decade+.
