In also, but the trailer seems somewhat subdued n muted. Hope there's more ass kicking than what's shown to go along with the title cause for god sakes we don't need anymore Hereafter & Jersey boys.

Clint is very capable of more Mystic River, Absolute Power,...a little more grit.

Such a tragic end to Chris Kyle's life, also if you haven't read the book yet you should before seeing the movie. I read it a year or so ago, but will probably read it again before I go to the theater. This movie needs the big screen experience just like Lone Survivor.

I hope the movie does justice to Chris and his family. Big "IN" for me. Saw a headline that Cooper gained 40lbs for the role and trained with Kyle's spotter.

p.s. Jesse Ventura is a POS.

For what, defending his position (which apparently was the truth)?

Does the film mention the event?

Bradley Cooper reportedly took this role seriously. We know Eastwood is trustworthy, so I have high hopes for this movie.

Doesn't seem like that type of film...

The fact that Clint Eastwood directs and the trailer make me want to see it.

1) for continuing his defamation suit against Chris Kyle's estate (aka his wife)

2) don't know. Movie's not out yet...

Would you have dropped the suit, considering the accusations were false in the first place? It might sound harsh I know, but Kyle's untimely death didn't magically erased the accusation. Ventura was wrongfully accused and wanted to clear his name. He had every right to do so imo. Why did he get defamed in the first place?...I have an answer, that has nothing to do with this thread though. All this is probably for another discussion (or pm).

...And btw I just read that these events were not part of the film.

This looks pretty good.

Anyone know where I can get a 'cliff notes' on Chris Kyle? I feel like I may have heard this story before but I am not sure.

Yes, something about suing a widow doesn't sit well with me (or many in their community). I wasn't questioning his right, it's whether he should. Either way, opinions are like belly buttons - everyone has one... No sense in cluttering up this thread anymore.

Chris is known as the most lethal sniper in US history. After his retirement he was killed by a solider suffering from PTSD, who Chris was trying to help. Take some time and read up on his story, and read his book.

Come on morph, you have the description of "most lethal sniper in history" and you're telling me it's not a ass kicking film? Then what type are you thinking of? There better some decent amount of action or sniper-ish shootings.

No zoey I don't think so First of all, Clint's Dirty Harry days are behind him, I don't see him focusing on action anymore. Secondly I think this film will be far more reflective, dealing with the inner turmoils of this job, rather than depicting action scenes. There will be a few I grant you that but we shouldn't expect many of them. At least that's what I get from the trailer - I could be wrong though. Should the most lethal sniper in history really considered a "hero"? Was he considering himself as such? I think the film will ask these questions instead. I should mention that I haven't read the book (yet).

"American Sniper" (2015)

Did Chris Kyle surpass Carlos Hathcock [sp]?
Anyway I am going to see this movie it should be a good one.
Ok just looked it up on Wiki Chris Kyle beat Hatcock who was still a great sniper considering what he was working with and where he was working.

Just watched the official trailer 2 - wow. I’m even more pumped up now. Also, just checked Dolby’s website and this will be released in Atmos. This will be my first Atmos experience… and I can’t friggin’ wait!

The movie opened on Christmas day in select cities (I believe NY and LA). Just saw it tonight at Lincoln Center Sony theaters in New York City and Dolby ATMOS is the hype for real. Hearing Apache gunships literally flyover you in the theater was insane.

As for the movie it is a perfect example of the onset of PTSD. The movie had a little bit of Black Hawk Down and Lone Survivor. Bradley Cooper did an excellent job and I loved the movie. Can't wait for it to come out on Blu-ray. In fact I will probably get Lone Survivor as well.

Two thumbs up for American Sniper! :+1::+1:

One of Kyle's SEAL friends saw the movie and said Cooper did a great job as Chris, but thought it was somewhat hard to follow and lacked realism in the training sequences:

Thank you for your service, all of you deserve more recognition for your service during that time. My father was a Seabee during Vietnam.

In very limited release until 1/16. Should be seen on as large a screen as possible. Has more than enough action. Clint Eastwood hasn't lost it.

Every time I see Bradley cooper I get this warm cozy feeling that the current state n future of films is in very capable hands,...don't know why but just wanted to put it out there.

I mean he's not your usual A list, hunky stud, leading man, alpha male,..chiseled action star like a Tom cruise but somehow he just plunkers along under the radar n gets the job done.

Doesn't matter what role he's given or what it is, the guy just owns it. Perfect example,..he was one of if not the mvp of GOTG.

And with limitless I still ask myself was that awesome film was the result of Cooper or a brilliant script combo with a great executed production. I honestly don't know, I just know he's got the Midas touch can't do much wrong.

Correct to a point. Unlike some Sniper films, there's almost zero perspective on the enemy/occupied/local population/etc (pick one) so we get a very one sided view most of the way. There's a few visits to childhood, training, etc that seem like filler and add little - been there before type scenes. The "Black Hat" counterpart provides the most interesting scenes, but again, we never get past the "Bad Guy" image. Just enough to of an excuse to go on another tour.
The film doesn't wave flags any more than normal or hang anti-war on a line. Just kinda sits there, expecting you to read the omissions. Cooper is not a Texan, but I'll give him credit for a good try.

some have suggested the audio track on this film is top notch
can we get some early reviews if that is accurate?
my nearest atmos is 25 miles through one of the worst Bay Area traffic corridors.

before I invest the time and energy, would like to know if this is "the film" I should make my first atmos viewing event.

Agree - he should not be framed as a bad guy in this situation.

Even though he lives close, I'm guessing he won't be welcome at the Cowboy Stadium owners box any time soon.

That is a film I'm very eager to see, especially considering the kind of powerful dramas that Mr Eastwood has created in the past.

For my money, his Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby are 2 of the strongest dramatic films that American cinema has produced in the last decade or so.
