Remember how high the expectations were raised for TPM?
Ultimately, it worked against the movie.
Expectations for TPM were certainly high but I don't think even those were as high as this one. I was commenting to my kids over the weeked about how similar this all is compared to the stories I told them about how ingrained the original was in society back in the 70's. My question is, is all the promoting based soley on the anticipation of success or is it based on initial screenings and test marketing? Personally, I think the Force is strong with this one and it will be a massive and well done film that will garner the rare repeat theatrical viewings from me.

AFAIK, there hasn't been any screenings.
IMO, it would be dumb if they tried.
NO WAY would test audiences keep their mouths shut.

The Disney Promotional Machine is working overdrive here, and it should be.
They spent 4 Billion Buckeroos on the SW Universe.
It makes perfect sense they would pull out all stops to make sure everyone on the planet is hearing about Ep.7.

What this movie has that TPM didn't is all of the important original characters/cast.
It will make a HUGE difference at the B.O. and video sales.

I certainly hope so...I love SW as much as the next Jedi.

Yeah no screenings usually means awful movie but that one might be an exception.

Me too. We should all do an AVS online 'Greedo shot first' shot when The Force Awakens opens up.

Equal parts cognac and creme de menthe
shaken over ice and strained into shot glass

Bottoms up.

Bust out that fancy Louis XIII and join us. Franin even signed up The Max Rebo band to play for us.

Oink...good point about the original cast. I guess, if there is one movie or franchise that you can take such a big marketing gamble with it would be this one, particularly with the original cast included.

And on to another point, as of December 1st, I am officially on SW media blackout with the possible exception of talk show interviews. While I trust Abrams to not reveal too much, I really don't want any more detail of the movie from here on out. And in fact, with this movie, it's not so much an issue of possibly spoiling plot details but just the imagery of the film. I want and am hoping to be in awe of what I see.

And that makes me think about first seeing the original and the massive star destroyer overhead. So with that in mind....

1) Will there be a crawl?

2) If so, will the camera pan up or down afterwards?

The only crawl oink knows about has to do with pubs, LOL!

As much as I'm not a big fan of the original trilogy, Lucas gets major points for breakthroughs in sound-design and cinematography.

But then he turns around and loses a few for the unimaginative ownership of the word (an)droid. Now I guess I have to pay him 10.99 for using "droid" in print. Frak, I did it again!

Hopefully, Abrams will show us a few new things.

There has to be, that's the gateway.

Listening with Focal Elex headphones, Topping DSD Dac, SENCUN-audio tube preamp with tone control and Modded Little Dot hybrid tube amp with Voshkod 6ZH1P-EV tubes, Dual Discrete Op-Amp SS3602, and Alps Blue Velvet volume pot.

Watching in a room ensconced in velvet.

Perhaps the only real question is will it top Avatar at the B.O.?
It is a possibility IMO.

I have been thinking the same thing.
So far, nothing of real substance has leaked out, but when watching trailers, etc. my last brain cell can still put 2 + 2 together.

I don't think JJ Abrams should be at the helm for star wars and star trek. Either, but not both. Preferably star wars because I care much less about his ALFS ruining star wars which has already been made decidedly mediocre by lucas, it'd be sad to see star trek dragged down in the same manner after such a good run (the first 7 or 8 films are all brilliant).

He won't be helming either in the future. The next Star Trek movie is being helmed by Justin Lin and the next Star Wars movie is being helmed by Rian Johnson.

YES...I felt the same when I saw the preview for the 1st REBOOT of STAR TREK (2009). JJ Abrams is a 'Hit or Miss' kind of director. I'm sure the movie will be just as YOU, breezy2012 described...RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE.
Apparently, Disney Told Abrams to 'purposely make the film to prevent REB/FED RIOTS'...No, Just kiddin, but you could imagine, eh????
