Anyways, clearly I have to make an exception for this one. What's your go to strategy for reserving tickets? I've heard some people can reserve specific seats because some theaters have d-box or whatever? Is that a good play or do you just stand in line with all the other nut jobs and hope you get a good seat?

Did I mention I hate this?

Help me cope - thanks in advance...
All the good tickets for the first few weeks of IMAX 3D are sold out pretty much... at least in my area. But yeah at this point online is your best bet.

If you have an AMC Prime in your area or a non-"Lie"-max theater (you can google which are the real ones, there is a database) those are your best bet.

There is one sequence of the film that was shot in IMAX... so if you go see the film in anything but an IMAX that sequence will be cropped. If you don't mind I'd go for an AMC Prime theater, or any theater which might have a bright projector. (I think the non-IMAX Lasers or Dolby Prime theaters have something called 6P projectors?... Like the Cinerama in Seatle?)

One other thing to keep in mind there are charities associated with different ticket sales for Star Wars. Fandango gives some money to Force For Change I think. I just saw this today:

Despite being a big SW fan, I won't go to theater to see another SW movie. Last time I did that, my viewing experience was ruined by these fanatics who showed up in SW costume making a lot of noise during the movie.

That is EXACTLY what I am trying to avoid.

@Aras_Volodka - I'm actually trying to stay away from 3D as much as I can. I'm all in favor of a huge screen but current tech 3D is just bad. But where is this database that you speak of?

The theater will give you a refund in such an instance.

I would gladly pay a premium to be able to watch it at home upon release. That's why I have a front projector setup.

Listening with Focal Elex headphones, Topping DSD Dac, SENCUN-audio tube preamp with tone control and Modded Little Dot hybrid tube amp with Voshkod 6ZH1P-EV tubes, Dual Discrete Op-Amp SS3602, and Alps Blue Velvet volume pot.

Watching in a room ensconced in velvet.

Unfortunately, what has been ruined can't be un-ruined even if they refund me double the ticket price. There's only one chance to experience the first viewing. For me it will be a wait till disc comes out.

Has there been much "disturbance in the Force" at theaters among those have had people dress up and even bring props? In my area, with the release of the prequels and even the 3D re-release, there were people dressing up and a strong buzz before the movie. There's pretty much the traditional applause and cheer upon sight of the Lucasfilm logo but after that nothing.

Yeah, mine too. If somebody cares enough to cosplay the movie, they probably care enough not to make a bunch of noise while the movie is going on. I don't remember any disturbances in any of the SW octoplex showings I attended. Even the applause diminished as the prequel series dragged on. For obvious reasons.

^ That's nice. I for one, will not be taking any chances. Like I said, there's only one chance for the first viewing.

I found that here originally:

Did you ever look up AMC Primes in your area? AMC Prime is exclusively 2D:
