This movie really intrigues me.
The trailer doesn't do much for me, but it has received an awful lot of buzz.

JG is an actor who just seems to get better and better with each film he does.
He was excellent in Prisoners with HJ.

Saw the movie last night. Kind of a low rent Taxi Driver without any surprises.

I watched through a slightly different lens but I can see Taxi Driver but low rent never entered the equation.

All I can say is I loved it. Such an interesting topic and I had no idea it existed. As someone with a huge mistrust of the "news" and a love of subcultures the subject matter was intriguing for me. It also wasn't scared to point out some issues with the generation gap and the everyone gets a trophy crowd. This was strangely very Falling Down-esque in a couple of ways not to mention disturbing.

End of Watch, Prisoners, and this make three really great JG flicks.

You're just feeling vulnerable, LW....those 2nd thoughts creeping in, eh?

BTW, NF won't have it available until March (long after we repel your invasion).

I agree with this a lot. Nightcrawler also opened my eyes to a subculture I never knew existed. Jake puts in another awesome performance. My GF wanted to see this, and initially I wasn't impressed by the trailers. When we went to see it in the theater, I was consumed.

This movie is rather dark and disturbing. Forget about what nightcrawlers actually do for a moment. But think about the 2 overarching subjects in the film. How our daily news is created, packaged and presented to us, and the content of that news. Also, the film doesn't portray fulfilling and rewarding futures for young, struggling Millenials trying to find jobs and their place in society.

Caught this last night. Wow. JG is really coming on. I think when everything is said and done, he will be regarded among the very best.

Narcissistic, sleazy sociopath, and I bought every minute of it. Can't take your eyes off the guy.

I echo Selby's ^ thoughts, anything else I could add would be potential spoilers. Once everybody sees it, it should be fodder for some good discussion.

Normally i like his movies but the trailers for this gave me an artsy fartsy impression. Like its going to have one of "those" endings which have become So popular nowadays.

Off topic but Denzel's Equilizer.. good stuff imo!

Excellent movie.

VERY edgy...perfect for someone who despises cookie-cutter films.
This movie shows and will make you think about the darkest corners of human nature.

Jake Gyllenhaal gives his best performance to date.
He continues to improve film to film.
Riz Ahmed is amazing here, matching JG at every turn.
Rene Russo is back in the saddle and terrific as a News Director of a small TV Station in L.A.

If there was JUSTICE in the movie industry, this film would have received Honors & Awards.

I believe this is one of last year's BEST, and a must watch for those who enjoy a challenge.

Exactly this.

When people talk about Affleck and Pikes performances in Gone Girl I just shake my head and look to movies like this one.
THIS is how you command a screen (or even Denzel in Equalizer...he took a ho-hum movie and made it something)

Revo Ion...XBMC For Windows...Dharma RC2

Wow, that trailer looks pretty good...and Challengers!

I don't recall ever once seeing a promo on tv about it. What happened, there?

Margot Robbie is THE most exquisite human creature on the face of the planet, in this moment in time.

IMO, at least 3 great films were grievously overlooked for BP last year:

Calvary
Nightcrawler
Gone Girl

I noticed there is a common thread running thru these 3.....
Each deals with tough subject matter.
More likely than not it is the reason they were "overlooked."

Anyone rent the DVD from Redbox and was it actually a "rental" or did it have the extras? I rented the BD over the weekend and it was a "Rental" edition without the extras. The commentary sounds interesting. Great film.
