From the trailers it looks generic, derivative and dumb. Maybe that's why...?

One of the best movies I've seen in awhile. A good time at the ol' cineplex.

Oink won't like this. He liked Gone Girl.

Day one fo sho, Franin. In fact, you should grab a few Fosters and see this in the theater. I know you'll like it.

Hey!

I liked Gone Girl!

And, I've been looking forward to this movie for friggin' months!

They're gonna run out of good British actors. Time to call in Austin Powers.

I saw the film today. When I first saw the trailers, I thought "meh". After seeing it, it's more like "wow". What a great and fun movie! A sequel is almost sure by now but I hope the film gets past the symbolic 100 million in North America... Day one purchase without any hesitation.

I'm feeling a bit lazy right now to look for a link, but I've read that a sequel has already been planned. And since the film is doing well...

Spoiler!

Saw the movie at a cheap theater. You nailed it.

Indeed. Picked up a HDX copy on VUDU and watched last night...Blu-ray doesn't release until June 9. I enjoyed the humor and movie references. It's familiar territory but with a slightly different spin. Which can also be said of the soundtrack which I loved...the soundtrack is on Spotify if you're curious.

I really liked this. They pulled off a great twist on the British secret agent genre. Not a spoof like Austin Powers by any stretch but much less self-serious than the current crop of action movies have tended to be. Great rated-R action sequences.

A few quibbles:
Spoiler!

Minor complaints though, this is really a must-see if you like your action movies a little less big and dumb.

Speaking of, anyone know what sort of filming technique they used in this scene? The action has an odd jerkiness to it, like it was filmed at 24 fps but with a very high shutter making for no motion blur? I liked it, added to the sense of chaos.

Who knew Colin Firth could kick such ass

Looks like a handheld being moved very quickly to stay with Firth moving around. The church scene portion starts at 3:55 in the video. Have no idea on framerate but I'm guessing it would 24 fps.

I don't remember it well but was it similar to what Ridley Scott did in Gladiator?
