I've watched the first three episodes of this eight-part miniseries. Episodes 1 & 2, good. Episode 3 with Hank Williams, incredible. Lookin' forward to the rest.

I've recently upgraded my "main home" to 4K (I have a work apartment with a 4K LCD non-HDR Samsung) - ended up getting a Marantz SR6013 last Thursday, and a 55" LG OLED (B8) on Saturday.

I watched Mad Max: Fury Road on 1080p BluRay (second viewing):

Sound was awesome through the Marantz SR6013 and especially with a BluRay - admittedly I had been streaming a lot of content previously and it really does make a big difference with an actual disc.
Mid-way through the movie, my LG OLED came. I set it up, and watched the second half of the movie through my (standard) PS4 - let my AVR/TV do the up-scaling to 4K. It was AWESOME!

I also watched Girl in the Spider's Web on 1080p BluRay, for the first time:

Pretty solid - never heard of it before and it kept me entertained.

I just ordered a Panasonic 820 4K BluRay player - I'm already very impressed with the picture quality of just a 1080p BluRay with my 'lousy' PS4 playing it. I did some Netflix 4K Dolby Vision streaming as well (Narcos Mexico, WOW!).

I watched 1953-1963 episode tonight on my PBS station! ★★★★★ I love that time period when Rock was first coming on the scene

8 Blu-ray disc set, 16 hours, available on PBS: Ken Burns: Country Music Blu-ray with FREE Guitar in Case Ornament for $99.99, reg. price $144.98.

Don't know if I can do the $100 bucks just now. New tires and brakes today, pick it up in the AM, putting a dent in my discretionary spending plus property taxes soon and other end of the year expenses... For now I'll watch them on PBS

Spider-man: Far From Home (2019) - Jon Watts directs. Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, Marisa Tomei and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Watched streaming on iTunes last night. Picture and Atmos sound are terrific. While I appreciate this reboot of Spidey is meant to match the original comic concept of a teenage superhero it just doesn't work for me. Hard to put my finger on my dissatisfaction with the last two Tom Holland entries which I know runs counter to popular opinion and a total worldwide box-office of $1.128 billion. At any rate it's part of my streaming collection now. Blu-ray releases October 1, 2019.

Just got back to my “home apartment” for the first time since Sunday night and needless to say I’m immediately booting this up and ordering in dinner hahah.

I've had mine since it was first introduced. I think you will find its upscaling to be superior to other players. The UB820 main shortcoming are the streaming apps.

Yeah I think for disc content, it's near the top right now (even the Panasonic 9000 should be similar visually).

Thankfully the LG OLED apps are amazing - the entire system is very snappy and the quality is good to my eyes for streaming.
I never thought I'd use native TV apps. Even my ~4 month old Samsung 4K TV at my work apartment - I prefer to use my PS4 Pro I have over there. However this LV with the 'wand' and what not is excellent.

I do watch some .mkv files which is where an Oppo 203 would have been nice but paying 2-3X the price for zero apps, marginally inferior disc quality, and being able to play .mkvs was not making much sense to me. I also own zero SACDs and DVDAs.

Executive Decision (1996) - Stuart Baird directs. Kurt Russell, Halle Berry, John Leguizamo, Whip Hubley, Oliver Platt, Joe Morton, BD Wong, J.T. Walsh, David Suchet and Steven Seagal.

Revisited my 2011 Blu-ray last night. This movie is only one of three that Stuart Baird has directed, much more impressive filmography in editing. The movie is a standard but entertaining actioner that eerily foreshadows 9/11. The Blu-ray was edited slightly to remove several references to the Quran. Good cast. Marla Maples (Trump's second wife) makes her film debut.

Since seeing it in first-run, hadn't thought of this 'til now. Only The Shadow knows.

So what happened and why did they demote the Sensei to being blown into orbit?

Take a wild guess. Steven Seagal has an ego, but it was even bigger in the mid 1990s, probably as big as it ever was. The man is notoriously difficult to work with on set. So my theory is that Seagal showed up, was doing what Seagal does and invoked his own demise.

Jim Thorpe -- All-American (1951) First time View

Emotional and heartfelt story of athlete Jim Thorpe (superbly portrayed by Burt Lancaster)

James Francis Thorpe (Sac and Fox (Sauk): Wa-Tho-Huk, translated as "Bright Path"; (May 22 or 28,1887 - March 28, 1953) was an American athlete and Olympic gold medalist. A member of the Sac and Fox Nation, Thorpe became the first Native American to win a gold medal for the United States. Considered one of the most versatile athletes of modern sports, he won Olympic gold medals in the 1912 pentathlon and decathlon, and played American football (collegiate and professional), professional baseball, and basketball. He lost his Olympic titles after it was found he had been paid for playing two seasons of semi-professional baseball before competing in the Olympics, thus violating the amateurism rules that were then in place. In 1983, 30 years after his death, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) restored his Olympic medals.

Yesterday (2019) - Danny Boyle directs. Himesh Patel, Lily James, Ed Sheeran and Kate McKinnon.

Watched streaming last night. A love letter to Beatles fans, much like Across the Universe is. During a worldwide blackout the character, musician Jack Malik, is transported to a parallel universe where that world does not include the Beatles music and several other cultural icons. Fame and fortune follow as Malik introduces Beatles music to this other world. It's an entertaining and charming romcom filled with music. McKinnon seems a little miscast but does her best. Blu-ray releases September 24, 2019.

The Magnificent Seven (2016) Cable TV Directed by Antoine Fuqua ('Training Day', 'The Shooter', 'The Equalizer', 'Southpaw'). Cinematography by Mauro Fiore ('Training Day', 'Avatar', 'The Equalizer', 'Southpaw'). Editing by John Refoua ('Avatar', 'The Equalizer', 'Southpaw').

Came across this channel surfing. First view, it hadn't been a must watch, since I'd written the original off as dated Chucky Cheese.

The newbie's opening scenes were decent, though the bad guys ringleader didn't exude much terror. Vincent D'Onofrio should've been Bartholomew Bogue, instead of Jack "Grizzly Adams" Horne.

$90M budget? There was no need fussin' and fightin' over this tumbleweed town.

It's in my Netflix queue but will likely take some time after it's released before I get it.
